Nintendo Life: It's Official, Switch 2 Joy-Con Will Not Feature Hall Effect Sticks

Honest question. Is it too late into the Steam Deck’s lifespan to pick one up? Everyone seems to love it but also say that the internals are lacking at this point.

For PC, I use Gamesir Cyclone 2, which features TMR sticks and they are even better than Hall effect. I have put my Dualsense and Dualsense edge on sabbatical until I upgrade those to TMR too later.
Out of interest, how can it be 'better than Hall effect'? I mean, it's just a magnet, a spring, and a sensor. You can't possibly tell what the thing is using unless you take it apart or read the marketing bumf.

Steam Deck has Hall effect triggers. I had no idea until I took it apart to change the shell, and it makes no difference to the feel.

i dont have a ps4, but it run great on my PS5 ? how it runs on SW2 20-30fps ? its this the true "cinematic" mode ?
Even if you have a Ps4 is going to run at 0 fps, because is next gen only 😂😂😂 BTW, i predicted this kind of response a few months ago… lol. So predictables..

its good that i said that Cyberpunk runs on base PS4 what is a fact, but since u cant read, u moved the goal to the Phantom Liberty DLC, if you ll feel better pretending that SW2 has the same power of a PS5 great, go play it at 20-30 fps 540p, i ll be playing at higher res and frames, cya.

1st gen Ultimate doesn't have hall effect. The newer version 2.4G does and comes with dock with (350hz polling iirc). 2C is the new version with 1K polling rate two more shoulder buttons, no dock. Ultimate 2 is the latest release with TMR sticks (basically an improved hall effect sensor), with same 2C specs plus hair trigger toggle + dock.

Thanks for the explanation.

Tried finding a chart, to compare the different versions, but only one I could find was a couple years old.

What are you talking about? 😆

Nothing, i m just an old fart, dont mind me

"Cyberpunk 2077, operating between 720p and 1080p with dynamic resolution scaling while targeting 30fps (though we did notice dips). Assuming the mobile footage is actually of the handheld mode, resolution there was 540p - but again, dynamic resolution scaling would be a fair assumption. Reports from the hands-on event don't seem to be particularly favourable, however."

The reason is likely simple repairs are costing them less than the amount of new controllers they sell (outside the EU and even inside, some people have little patience/do not want to stay without controllers).
Like I said, don't care about the reason as I don't care if it's Hall or not. Hall effect sticks don't change anything in terms of QoL in games with the exception of drifting.

So if drifting isn't an issue, then having or not having hall effect sticks is meaningless.

From the quotes given, whatever tech is in the new joycon's sticks is not the same as the tech in the old ones, we don't know what the tech is and we don't know if drift is or isn't an issue.

For all we know it's using Nintendo's own magnet based sensors or they found a better solution for the old stick design, right now all we know is it's not hall. Anything else is jumping to conclusions with no evidence.

Right, having Hall isn't the only way to ensure drift won't happen in the Joycons. Like I said in a previous post, between the free repairs that cost Nintendo money (their real motivator here) and all the flak they got for them, I would be very, very surprised to see Nintendo make the same mistake again with the drifting sticks. If this turns out to be an issue again, Nintendo deserves the ensuing shit they will get for it, but until then we don't know how things will pan out.

PS3 used Hall Effect Analogs.

I hope the Chinese knockoffs from Gamesir hurry up and release as they usually use them and have microswitch buttons.

Why would anybody think they would use sticks that aren't gonna drift? It's Nintendo, they wanna sell you those $90 joycon replacements for your 90 cent stick.
