Vinyl up 44%?
PS4/720 to use vinyl as a storage medium confirmed?
PS4/720 to use vinyl as a storage medium confirmed?
Certainly, the latest on MCV which has posted weekly articles on the figures as well as citing a 29% yearly decline:
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/uk-r...-last-big-sales-week-before-christmas/0108706
My mistake for not saying retail in my previous post if that caused a mix up.
I disagree that the drop constitutes a decline that signals a deeper problem but is rather a market correction after 2 years of hyper inflated demand from a very fickle but incredibly large group - casuals.
people who had never gamed were suddenly going out in their droves to buy the latest rock band, the latest guitar hero and the wii / ds. those people have now moved on to greener pastures and with their departure, we're seeing the market correcting itself to how it would have looked if the casuals hadn't inflated the market as much they did during the peripheral and peak nintendo era.
this is why claims of a market decline are misguided, people who claim it's in decline are choosing to ignore the effect casuals had on the market as a whole. it's not exclusive to the uk either, market corrections will be happening in other regions, maybe not to same degree or as fast, but the correction is happening.
Didn't also Call of Duty decline with respect to last year, and last year entry also declined?
If you want to know how HD gaming is in the UK just look at how it is in the US. The markets are in the same situation, except in the UK 3DS is irrelevant.

genre / series fatigue or people simply continue playing older titles, which are often listed in the top ten for both consoles.

So, if the market is declining (and numbers shown that), it's not only because of "market correction after the casual wave", right? Casual wave that existed also with PS2, or am I the only one who remembers Singstar and EyeToy? Hell, UK was the country where Little Britan video game charted at number 1...
I'm new here so maybe thats the cause for any mix up but I only made one post (number 156*) which made no mention of a deeper problem and was about something different (I thought it was very critical of Nintendo) then the one above where I clarified that I was referring to retail.
I'm wondering if maybe you are you referring with the writer of the article in that link? I just read it again and it seems the author made no mention of deeper problems but rather said they thought it would rebound next year.

I was referring to others who claim the market in the uk is dying and other such nonsense that's been routinely spouted in these threads since the wii u was released.
sorry if my post made it seem like you made claims you hadn't.
using a yearly release as some kind of litmus test to back up numbers that don't paint an entirely accurate picture is flawed.
did either trigger a massive influx from casuals like the wii /ds or rock band / guitar hero did? I remember both bombing pretty hard upon release.
little britain video game? when was that released?
People have been claiming the UK was declining all year because the numbers have been shit. Anything outside of the top 5 would usually be selling horrible numbers. I'm not sure why people are getting the idea that this claim only started when Wii U came out. I'm also not sure why so many people are offended by the idea as the same exact thing is happening in America. Actually it seems more like people are resistant to the idea when the Wii U came out because I remember many people agreeing with it before.
Also, no one said the UK market was dying. Declining does not equal dying.
It seems you didn't paint an entirely accurate picture; UK market is declining (which is true, numbers shown that - first step achieved, since when I wrote that, many people accused me of I don't know what exactly) and the reasons are not simply and only related to the casual gamers wave. You see, there are other reasons why, e.g. Call of Duty and similar yearly IPs may have reached a saturation point.
As for EyeToy and Singstar, no, they didn't bomb at all. EyeToy sold over 10 million units as of November 2008; Singstar has sold 16 million units in PAL regions as well, and if you check UK charts of that period, they were crowded of Singstar games.
Little Britain video game was released in 2007, and the PS2 version charted so high.
With the software numbers BKK posted, we might pin some of it on PS2 software falling off a cliff around 2008. That, combined with Wii's peaking out early, added up to an unusually steep downward movement (two market leaders racing back to zero at the same time), which the new systems couldn't fully balance out yet.So, if the market is declining (and numbers shown that), it's not only because of "market correction after the casual wave", right? Casual wave that existed also with PS2, or am I the only one who remembers Singstar and EyeToy? Hell, UK was the country where Little Britan video game charted at number 1...
I've read the topics all year and while there was the odd joke about the uk market dying in previous thread, it's been taken to completely different level since the wii u launch. and you're free to check the threads for the comments about the uk market dying or being irrelevant and other nonsense.
Interesting, the 3.3% rise in 2011 for 360 suggests an extra 600k (18.8m for the year) the 30% drop for Wii suggest a drop of just over 4m! (9.52m for the year).
This puts lifetime sales end of 2011 at;
X360 - 84.24m
Wii - 70.52m
PS3 - 54.50m (under less given it wasn't up yoy)

Does anyone here subscribe to or buy the Games TM magazine?
I read in a blog (can't post here since it has scans) they have some hardware numbers for Europe, I'd rather know if the magazine sources ******** or the reliable trackers (Media-Control/Gfk/Chart-Track) before buying it...
It seems so strange to me that there's a magazine which does release real numbers but we're hearing about it just now. I'm doubtful they're real.
What the FUCK?
What?? What "people"?
Neogaffers?? Jesus, you really believe that the rantings of the ultra-hardcore have the slightest relevance on the industry at all? Do they fuck.
The market went fucking batshit mental for Wii Sports from day one, and the Wii was the hottest shit since the Furby.
Now, the market, reflected by the sales that this thread is meant to discuss, couldn't give a shit about Nintendo's new console.
So once again, the rantings in this forum for the super-hardcore mean fuck all.
Merry christmas Nintendo.
Yes i'm drunk. Its crishtmas/
When the Wiimote was revealed, wasn't the general reaction on gaf that the name was stupid and it wouldn't sell well?
the Revolution controller and the Wii name weren't revealed together, it was about 6 months apart. The name is stupid, but that's not always a bad thing.
I think the Wii % was for revenue, anyway, I've added the 2011 figures now.

Why?
Even in Portugal FIFA is topping the charts and PES appears much lower. A few years ago it was the exact oposite. PES is no longer king of anything.
