Only thing I noticed was when my Switch was on the 2.4ghz channel it was more susceptible to lag spikes (presumably because I wasn’t using it statically like I would a home console). Once I connected it to the 5ghz channel (and bought an actual capable router instead of my shitty ISP provided one) it’s been rock solid.
I did use 5ghz, it was still terrible in every game other than splatoon 2.

obviously it has. it is an abusive increase that only occurs because there are clearly only 2 consoles that feel comfortable charging something free on pcs. an open platform

You seem to forget that Microsoft also increased prices in consoles, games and subscriptions.

This has nothing to do with PC. If you are trying to say PC is superior in this regard then I agree, but this isn't about PC.

The justification is quite simple:
1. Near-hyperinflationary pressure. Not just of the last 2-3 years, by the way, but since the last time they increased the price of PSN.
2. It actually costs money to provide these services, contrary to what people think.
3. They can do it.
4. These are probably going to be the prices for a good 4-5+ years. How long was a year of PS+ (essential) priced at 60 bucks? The vast majority of last generation, if memory serves.
This is the only one that matters. The rest is what gullible people believe to cope. Sony is posting record profits.

but it doesn't charge to play online on the pc because there is a free steam
You can charge whatever you want for subscription services. the problem is to charge the user to use his own internet in p2p online games

I'm not against the inflation argument. but like is ps plus essential really providing 80 dollars worth of value? the games being put on there are getting worse every year and there are hardly any multiplayer games anymore that require ps plus; the most popular multiplayer games are free to play now. so the value is not really there. 80 dollars for basically just online saves and access to multiplayer for hardly any games now is a bad deal.

I’m shocked that Sony wants to increase revenue year over year. Never saw it coming. In fact, I’d be shocked if we see a nominal increase for the following year too!

If I only had a PS5 I would be so fuckin pissed at Sony right now. Announcing a price increase right on the eve of THAT game's release? Holy shit, I would be mad as fuck. Well, if it's any consolation BG3 is coming out Monday. It's one of the best rpgs I ever played and you don't need PS+ to play it.

Thread title wasn't changed, two threads were merged and the first thread title took precedence. Dial back your war vitriol.
Did the mods change the thread title back!? :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Microsoft hiked their prices a few months ago, dude. Try to keep up.
At least everyone knows MS's gaming division isn't exactly banking big profits. Who knows what they make, but there's no way it's that great. They probably lost money annually some years.

Sony has been making $2-3 billion profits per year the past 5-6 years just from their gaming division. So the price jump is more about banking more profits with a 33% price hike than a company needing to raise prices for survival or trying to keep a division in the black.

I feel like they're going to have to revert this. It's just ridiculous. Only Essential is even remotely worth it and that's because they paywalled online play. So once my sub runs out in a year I don't know why the hell I'd renew. That means the next game I want to play online I'd have to buy the game ($70 probably) and get an essential sub ($80 lol). So there'd need to be a game that's worth that $150 to me.

Instead I'll just play Fortnite or Genshin Impact or whatever other games come along that don't require PS+. Stupid move.

if they wanted to increase revenue, they should've released more games. where are the games??? it's so backwards.

Record profits are kinda sorta the whole point, and those are numbers stretching back from last year. In fact, record profits are subject to inflation the same way your wages are.

Those "record profits" are, what? 3-5 billion out of 24 to 26 billion? The margins are not as high as you think.

Should come as no surprise, Jim is about that bottom line. Think mine is up in December and looks like i wont be renewing. I always stacked about 2 years during black friday in the U.S., but they got rid of that two. Ive probably played....3 PS plus games of the last 5 years. Mainly have it for only play, but rarely play online games anymore either.

Honestly hope shit starts to tank at Sony. They seems to slowing be going back to their overpriced arrogant selves.

Cant think of all of the shitty things this gen, but to name a few

- Ending sales of PSN cards at retailers
- PS Plus price increases
-Not allowing redownload of some PS1 classics tou bought on PS3
- $550 wired VR,
-PS5 price increase in some countries
-$70 games (though half look and play like PS4 games)
- 3+ years of cross gen games
- Digital Code collectors editions (not sure if started this gen)
-PS Portal
- Even slower 1st party releases (outside of Insomniac).
-Trickling of news and shitty showcases
-GAAS focus

...im sure there are more shitty things

And every new accessory they launch is $200 each, lmao. Jim Ryan thinks he's Tim Cook but really he's Jim Cuck. He's 100% about to find out.

Of course nobody likes price increases, but in the interest of being fair-minded I took a closer look at the value proposition for Essential, since that's what I have. On average, I play 2 or 3 of the free games released on Essential (or what was simply PS Plus before that) each year, which I would have spent roughly $40 on had I purchased them on PSN or Amazon. I've never used the Share Play feature, so at the new price point, I'm basically spending $40/year (or $3.33/month) for online play and cloud saves.

I know my experience is not everyone's experience, but for me it doesn't seem like such a bad deal. I know some would argue that online play should be a free service, but if it's not free for Sony to provide the service, is it reasonable to expect it to be offered for free?

i have no idea why the meltdown.

Increasing the price of PS Plus for Sony could have potential benefits, such as enabling them to invest more in improving the online gaming experience, providing better quality games through the monthly free games offerings, and possibly funding the development of new and innovative features for the PlayStation Network. This could ultimately enhance the value and overall satisfaction for their subscribers.

Besides, inflation is a thing and they haven’t increase PS+ price for many years.

Overall this is a great move.

Microsoft will not do it since they recently announced their own price hikes and ditched $1 intro pricing, but it would have been a nice "own" to announce a price drop to their own service.

Online games are free for sony. (Games are p2p. Servers with data are on devs) Only psn have cost but it's a online store

I'm not happy about this at all... I could understand it if this followed a very successful PlayStation Showcase to justify the rise to what we can expect from PlayStation over the next 18 month at least. But as of now I'm in the dark with regards to their plans, we know Live Service is something they see as a necessity.
But we are still waiting on more info for first party titles, more on Wolverine, more on Santa Monicas new IP, where is Factions 2? The list goes on.
Sorry Sony, but words are just not enough to justify this increase... Show me what you've got cooking.

If they show us that they're bringing the games I will happily pay more. If it's the same service just more expensive I'm probably back to the lowest tier.

I'm just saying these chucklefucks better be providing me some better damn choices then. More than half of these are the same shit I've already played out.

I'll just stay unsubscribed then.

There's nothing they can do to make this worth it, especially at the essential tier.

Nothing? Bring back Kaz and make the entire PSX/PS2 back catalog available via PS+. Also rehire the goat and let him design the PS3 mini.

They got greedy. The first rule of increasing subscription prices is to do it gradually. You don't just go 33%. They should have said they were raising it a dollar a month and done a 12 dollar increase.

Also curious that they said they will no longer report Playstation Plus numbers. Meaning they dont expect growth, perhaps they know a lot of people will either unsub or switch to the cheapest tier.

Not many have mentioned it, but this makes Nintendo Switch Online look better than whatever shit PS Plus or Xbox sub is cooking. Like, I feel like for single people at least 20$, or 35$ for family, is really a good price for at least one year, and that's with basic features. I don't know if they have any offers for family. But 35$ for Nintendo to cover up to 8 people in family playing online is a HUGE opportunity.

Of course, I don't ask people to excuse the pricing of NSO or having to need that to play games online in the first place, but I think it's not too bad all of a sudden now that the other consoles decided to increase pricing for subscriptions.
NSO isnt totally terrible. Played Fire Emblem GBA recently. Excitebike 64 came out today. Still too expensive for all the tiers.

I'll probably end up going with the base subscription. At the moment all I really use 90% of the time is the online for COD and Destiny.

I might just get COD on PC with MWIII anyways.

The price increment is not that huge either. Increment of $40 for premium tier is about $3.30 per month. Thats the price of a cup of coffee?

But what are we getting in return... another Showcase now would be the right response, let's see Factions 2, let's see what new IPs are coming, let's see Wolverine via development vlogs etc.

Maybe the SOP will be them announcing that, from now on, all first party games will come to PS Plus Premium at launch (yeah I know they said they wouldn't do that but hey Microsoft said we'd have to have our Kinects permanently turned on lol).

With such a big price increase, they have no excuse now IMO. Then again, they're still way ahead of Xbox so they probably won't feel the need to.

Ouch.

Fuck all that, lol.

Never paid full price ever for XBL or PS+ since sales would always coincide for renewals or stacking, but this just makes sales that much less "salesy."

Then again, a box of Cheerios is like $8-$9 now. Fucking processed shite is almost a tenner.
