PlayStation Plus is increasing its pricing globally starting September 6th

Do some of you people expect these services to stay at the same price forever? Do you think providing these services cost nothing, and that the cost never increases?

Par for course.

To clarify my thoughts (not that you care), this is just the way these things work. Until something disrupts the cash flow, we should expect more of this from the big 3.

Greedy corporations are greedy. I’ll let my premium sub expire and just sit with essential. I have very little time to play as it is so these subscription services are not targeted at me. I’d rather just own my games and buy them ad hoc like I have been for the past 25+ years.

I don't think anyone is really denying that all businesses are out to make money. But it's a question of balancing that with creating a rewarding experience with the customer, and you can pick up on what they're prioritizing when they talk. I mean, some of us were calling this out on the new PS management 2+ years ago. They don't spend on E3 / Gamescom showcases fans enjoy, they didn't see the point in BC, they didn't see the point in Japan Studio. It was kind of obvious that they were a touch more ruthless than the previous management that was also profit driven, but balanced that with seeing the value in happy customers and funding some games that aren't mega blockbusters. Just my take anyway.

Yeah, but see, this is a super reasonable reaction. At least half of the posts here are not this.

I'm paid up on Premium until 2025, wonder if I should get another year or cancel.

I won't lie, I don't really use Premium much.

4 pages of fake outrage. Everything is getting more expensive, what do you expect?

We donr have fucking 30% inflation. There is stuff that barley raised in pricing because costs stayed the same and the only way to justify this is to show that they will improve their sub.

I would expect at least one sea of stars like day one quality game every single month with those new prices. At least ONE.

Time for Jim Ryan to fuck off.

Jim Ryan is just shooting himself in the foot here

$60/yr? Ok, I’ll keep my sub and forget about it renewing. The value proposition was always kinda shitty

But…these hikes? People will notice and they will cancel

This is massively stupid for what boils down to cloud saves and access to MP games

Greedy as shit, I hope live service fails and they lose tons of subs

Fucking assholes are just trying to dry their loyal costumers without providing more value.

Decreasing their first party output, GAAS, and now hiking prices this much? This is a big increase.

Man fuck him and fuck them. After a dry year? Toilet status. I’m about to take my money elsewhere.

Been with plus since day 1. Never got a single one of those promos that they used to do for free store credit or anything like that and I never complained then but I am now. I canceled my subscription today. Not that it means much as they have my money till May 2024 and I’ll probably rebuy when I find a cheap code online again but after ps5, I think they pushed me out.

I understand if people don't want Extra or Premium but the selection isn't bad at all. Even the PS3 streaming, yea they're locked to 720p but the games play fine and there's a lot of gems in there.

Lots of misery going on here when you should be playing games you enjoy playing.

They will probably start adding more new first party games at a quicker rate. That's the only reason that would make sense for why they increased the price by so much.
If this were the case, it would be in the messaging. It's just a normal price uptick. Everyone will be upset for a week or two, then life will continue as always.

The problem for me with paying $160 a year to be able to stream PS3 games at 720p is that I just picked up a PS3 super slim for under $30 that will play them natively, and that for under 2 years of premium you can probably pick up one of those expensive back compat PS3s too.

I expected a price increase but not a 33% increase, and not to PS+ Essential. Makes MS's Game Pass price increase look modest by comparison.

Guessing they're considering Day 11P releases? Doing Trails for all 1P and big 3P AAA releases in Premium pre-Day 1? They have to be adding more value to justify a price increase this much, but no info on that front. Sony/SIE pre-2022 would have pared this type of news well by, y'know, announcing new features and Day 1 offerings to the tiers, but not current Sony/SIE.

Interested to see how this plays out but if it backfires, it backfires. It is what it is.

Dude they are making records profits and now they have the guts to raise prices 33%.

Do that the same again in two years, taking in account with inflation you'll be playing 250 for a year.

For the poor PS classics catalogue right now they can eat a bag of dicks. I'm not renewing my membership.

This doesn’t help my internal debate about subbing to PS+. Did it for the “free” games and that’s all there is to it for me. The new price is not worth it all. I don’t play online on the console, so I’m not missing out there.

Revenue records, not profits - their profits are actually pretty minimal.

They reinvest most of it back into their divisions

That's valid, I still have my PS3 and a great library but PS+ Premium is still a feasible option for those who don't.

Just lots of knee jerk hyperbole. I get it, everyone has a budget and some people aren't interested in the "Classics" selection. I applaud people who cancel, vote with your wallet but don't act like it's trash across the board, that's just silly.

I wouldn't stay subbed if I didn't play so much online with friends. Free games and cloud saves are a bonus for me.

it's because off corporate ass lickers like these clowns that these fuckers keep on fucking us over
defending a 30% increase when groceries and fuel cost what they do these days and for what? FOR WHAT? AAA games are still 70 dollars and STILL full of microtransactions, unfinished buggy messes

Wait people are saying that Gamepass is still more expansive? Holy FUCK, i already think this is too much, more is kinda crazy and i don't care about "MUH DAY ONE GAMES MUH" Specially for a company that barely has any game

This is big disappointment, they should at least give us a new service for like 20 or 30 $ per year for Online play, i don't care about the shitty games
