So I ended up playing 3 hours of Waltz of The Wizards. This is so freaking cool! I showed the game to my girlfriend and she spent 30 minutes in the first room trying some stuff and giggling like a 2 year old. This really feels like magic, and its such a great game to showcase VR.
For 6 bucks this is such a steal.

And then I bought another game, Garden of the Sea! This is basically a micro Animal Crossing with a Wind Waker vibe and this is pretty well done and very addictive!

Oh and lastly I finished Toy Trains and I really had a blast. The campaign is very cool but a bit short (2 hours) but once you finish it you unlock 14 harder missions and a sandbox mode.
If you like Puzzling Places do not miss it, I would rate it 8/10 even full price (and its 3 bucks right now)

Because of you, once I finish Red Matter, I'll be playing Waltz of the Wizard next.

I want to play more vr and I know how I'm going to do it.

Wife is suspending her fourth fucking run of BG3 and making a new elden ring character right now. I cannot express in words how relieved I am that I don't have to hear that BG3 theme for awhile. I swear to God it was torture after a few hundred hours. Good thing the elden soundtrack is so nice and mild because I'll be listening to a few hundred hours of this now.

She's taking up the tv, but she's playing in the pc so this is a perfect time for me to play some vr. But it'll be better if it's a certain style. Stuff I can play in what I always thought of as "low immersion mode": light shroud detached, with either no sound, or a neck ring speaker set to a low volume.

One thing I love about psvr1 and 2 is that no weight is supported on your face. This also means that you can play without the rubber shroud. I know it isn't for everyone, but for me, it keeps my in the irl room in a way that doesn't feel so much like I'm checking out completely. This helps when it's our together time. For some reason her playing a game while I poke at my phone is fine. Same if I'm playing a handheld. But if I go full immersion vr, it's like I'm leaving the room. In the low immersion mode, it's more like me zoning out on a handheld. And if I want to look up from it, I just tip the headset up a smidge and look under it.

Then, my purchase from the sale was a cart full of cozy games. Little cities, demeo, that Stellaris one. Things like that. No sudden movements. Don't have to sit bolt upright. Don't need sound if I want to keep my ears open.

I tried this last night. She was playing bg3 and I played townsmen. Now she's done with her elden character and running around so I'm going to jump into something cozy so we can chill.
Ven VR Adventure might be a good option for your low immersion setup. Though there is a miniboss a few hours into the game that functions like beat saber. It's kind brilliant to throw that into a 3rd person platformer. That section is challenging too.

Max Mustard is more impressive as a platformer but Ven is by no means a bad game in any sense of the word, and it's pretty damn challenging. Some people enjoy it, some hate it. I don't know why anyone would hate it though TBH. It's just another Astrobot clone. Looks great in the headset too and has a good OST.

I saw max mustard it looks great!!! It's hard to suss a platformer without spoiling it but I wasn't so sure about ven. I have enough games atm, but I don't think I have anything like a platformer, which leaves a little hole in the library.

Ahhh it's not on sale! I spent all the money I'm going to spend for a minute. But I favorited it and gonna keep an eye out.

Went to Gamestop to get a gift for my brother. Saw Blood & Truth (PSVR) for $4.99. Such a steal, it's usually $40 and doesn't really get less than $20 on PSN.

Also snagged Bioshock Infinite and it came with Bioshock. Been wanting a copy of Infinite so I can play it with the Move controller.

Nice to have more opinions about Garden of the Sea, it feels right up my alley

And agreed about Toy Trains! I even got the platinum trophy (which is very easy, so not really something to brag about 🤣). It has a surprisingly cute way too tell a charming story and it is a one of a kind game. Very chill, too.

Longshot here, but if anyone's played townsmen and knows if you can call the rally flag to your hand or if you have to go pick it up, let me know. It's fine if it's not possible, but wondering if I'm missing it is bugging me.

My gf got me PSVR2, I’ve only played that free GT7 demo they put out, my first Gran Turismo and that absolutely blew my mind. It was like I was sitting in the car, and it looks so good. It’s insane. It’s unreal. I plan on picking up GT7 tomorrow so I can have the full experience.

I looked through what games are available in the PS Store and nothing really screamed at me u til I saw No Mans Sky, and apparently it’s fully compatible with PSVR2, so I got that. Have kind of followed the game for years but never dove in, so this seems like a good opportunity to change that.

That said, it hasn’t been all great, I reinstalled Ace Combat 7 only to find out that PSVR2 doesn’t work, you need the old one. That is so dumb. Of course I then went on to see that Skyrim wouldn’t work either. Double dumb.
It’s pretty lame the newer device doesn’t play the older games. I was really looking forward to trying both of those games so it’s bittersweet.

Hopefully NMS will scratch that Skyrim open world exploration itch.
And GT7 is just mind boggling. I imagine if I get a seat and wheel I’ll be good to go lol

What’s it like? How does it feel on mp how would you compare it to like bf or cod etc

Its so fun, i played like 4h yesterday, its hard to compare, but yeah, maybe like old cod, or more like cs. But its absolutely amazing and the Guns and gameplay are 10/10.

I will play the hell out of this, and it seems like the developers has plans for the future. When i played last night i think it was like +30 lobbys so it seems popular, it has crossplay to.

But yeah, hard to describe better, but I actually think its a must buy, in the latest video someone posted here, Pavlov is in S-tier, what more can be said : )

Welcome! Hopefully the bitter part will fade away eventually, but I do understand getting annoyed by not having PSVR1 titles compatible with the successor. Would love to see all big PSVR1 titles ported eventually, which would be better than a simply backwards compatibility imo, specially because of the resolution.

Are you used to VR games in general? Need some game indication? Tips? People here are really cool, the best NeoGAF has 😅

I have the PC and PSVR2 version of no man’s sky. The PSVR2 version is much better. I do wish they would bring out a PSVR2 port of Skyrim but I guess that’s not going to happen.

I thought about getting the PSVR1 for Skyrim but in the end couldn't be bothered with all that fuss with the camera and cabling. There are a few games that I would like to be converted.

Don't sleep on the RE8/RE4/Red Matter games, they all allow very free exploration once they kick off (even though you're just exploring a village/mansion/etc, they're super fun to explore in VR and maze-like), and can almost feel open world in way. Plus they look incredible, to me way better than GT7 and that is already better than NMS. Though NMS didn't click with me, that certainly is as open world as open world gets.

Ya set up was pretty easy after I charged the controllers lol, it was almost exactly plug and play, worked great and the guide to set up the play area was easy to follow.

I still can’t get over GT7, I got in each car just to look around at the interiors. And man the sense of speed is sooooooooo much better in VR it’s insane. That was always one of GTs biggest weaknesses and VR completely alleviates that. Sense of speed in VR is amazing.

I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for new games as they come out.

It’s hard though because I have so many games I’m playing right now, I’m deep into both Marvel Rivals and Helldivers 2, among other games. There’s just not enough time in the day. Too many games. I need to take a sabbatical or something and catch up on video games hahaahahah

Edit
Right now I’m thinking about the new Aliens game, as Aliens is one of my favorite IPs of all time.

NMS will make you feel inside an eldless, freely explorable Universe like anything else. There's a special feeling in knowing that you are not in some guided, limited path, but rather into a "real", open Universe, free to explore anywhere you want, and truly be where nobody went before.

If the controls and menus and inventory screens and dozens of other screens don't drive you crazy. I feel like there's a great game to be had like you say, but you really have to break immersion every 20 seconds to deal with some new set of screens and I felt like I was constantly fighting the targeting system. It's definitely not a game you could throw someone who's not a gamer to and expect them to figure everything out, unless they were a kid. I need to go back to it, but the first hour was not really too much fun for me.

That stuff is a clusterfuck but you settle into it. I end up doing a few clicks of the wrist menu on a regular interval and using the deeper menus less frequently. I never found the immersion breaking, though. I did feel like I was constantly tripping over them trying to walk ten steps when I started playing.

Ok so I just had my first long session. Played GT7 for about and hour and then jumped into NMS and played for about 2 hours.

NMS is a trip. Have never played before so it’s all new to me.
I was constantly mind blown. From reaching behind your shoulder to grab the multi tool, to the aiming, the movement, just looking around… it’s all amazing and damn… the when I got the ship fixed and flew into space… holy shit. Holy shit. Wow.

Now for the not so good part:

My frontal lobe area doesn’t feel too great. Not sure if it’s eye strain or what, but I felt like I had to stop because it was getting uncomfortable.
Are there any settings to help mitigate this?
I read some people said they turned the brightness down, and I will try that tomorrow.
Are there any other settings in the console I can change to make it more comfortable?
I do wear contacts because I have astigmatism, so not sure if that’s what’s causing it. But I’d like to find a solution as it’s an incredible experience. Maybe I just have to play shorter sessions ? But damn, with a game like NMS it’s just begging to be played for long durations I feel like.

Any tips would be much appreciated. I messed with the button on the top right of the head set and moves it forward and backward and that helped a bit, as did adjusting the dial on the left. But I think it’s that my eyes are focusing on a screen that’s so close to them that’s the problem.

How did you guys deal with this?

Start of with short sessions and enable all the comfort options until you start to get used to it. You can train your VR legs but the opposite is also very true.

The best comfort options are teleport rather than joystick movement. It’s not nearly as immersive but your stomach will appreciate it. Stand up and physically rotate your body in the direction that you want to face rather than using the joypad to turn and take things slow, look around and enjoy the scenery.

I just popped in NMS after we were talking about it and it looks totally fucked up. Very low res, ps1-sryle polygon seems, performance a little rough. Was there a bad update or do I got a problem over in my end?

I am very impressed with your super long play sessions so soon 😅 shorter sessions will help you getting more used to it, plus there are options like teleport movement, snap turn and vignetting to ease into VR. But I honestly think it has more to do with the long session than anything else.

I felt like in NMS the analog stick camera movement was too fast and sensitive, but I didn’t see an option to adjust it.

I’ve been reading up on options, tomorrow I will try to mess with options and settings.

PSVR2 has no games....

Well, here in Sweden we have what we call Juldagen today, a day when we have foodhangover from christmas eve, and on Juldagen we eat more, mostly candy and chocolate, and spend 97% of the day lying on the sofa watching tv...

Me though, just came home from the gym, going to buy Into The Radius and play all night long!

Wishing all americans and others that celebrate today a wonderful christmas 😊

Forgot I had Hellsweeper 2 sitting in my purchased games list. I played about 20 minutes of it ages ago and booted it up again yesterday. This looks like it's going to be a ton of fun, the moves you can pull off are pretty fun in VR.

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a good one!

It may just be the initial adjustement that goes away after some days or weeks. The focus distance is not really a problem, since the lenses are calibrated to make you focus on the image as it was a metre and half from your eyes. Frontal lobe sensation may be due to the tight frontal strap. It's warmly advised to buy globular cluster for psvr2.

This is on reg PS5. I am going to have a look at some recent gameplay from someone else to see what it's looking like. Last I played was several months ago and I remember thinking it was all pretty nice looking compared to launch.

VR has reinvigorated my passion in playing video games.

I went against my word again and treated myself to Madison VR, Angry Birds VR, and Resident Evil: Village VR.
RE: Village has really an incredible atmosphere in VR. And the deep blacks of the OLED are a match in heaven for that. It really shines when there's darkness all around (coupled with the 3D audio is just an incredible experience - be sure to set that right too. Even with the built-in earphones it works well).

Definitely will.

I'm just glad I haven't experience RE: VIllage yet despite already owning it on my Series X. Now I can experience it first in a fully immersive VR first person perspective and later play the game on a flat screen and experience the third person perspective and appreciate the two different experiences.

Village remains my favorite VR title ever. What a freaking ride! Never played flat to play in VR and it was well worth it, imo.

VR also reignited my passion for games. I love the medium so much that I like to keep repeating this here lmao.

Now I can experience it first in a fully immersive VR first person perspective and later play the game on a flat screen and experience the third person perspective and appreciate the two different experiences.

Village is crazy good - just set your expectations properly for the best experience and a few tips:

- It's not a "made for VR" game - it's port of a console game - don't expect to see everything react like it was made for VR. While it's extremely nice to look at stuff, that's generally as far as it goes - and if you're fine with that you'll enjoy it more. Look but don't touch, however it's still a great atmosphere - one of the best for sure!
- Weapons can be intimidating - I'd heavily suggest using the assist mode for reloading - and the first encounter the game puts you in is a swarm - and it's super overwhelming because you have no experience - you'll probably need to repeat it once or twice - just try and survive long enough. After that, you get more typical one on one or two encounters, where you can actually think it through!
- The knife can be thrown. This very slightly can damage enemies - and more importantly can break open objects with items instead of using bullets - which are limited. Throw the knife at the gems in the ceiling etc, may take a few tries, but better than wasting ammo - at least early on.
- The map you grab from your back pocket isn't nearly as useful as the one you can view from the inventory screen - that one shows you all your objectives and objects of interest, and is color coded letting you know when you've explored and found all an area's secrets.

I think with those things in mind, and a mindset of not marathoning the game - and hour or even half hour daily is great, from one typewritter save point to the next - and you can have a really special experience in VR - that many put in their top 3 or top 5.

Finally got to try it after opening it up. Here are my impressions.

It's much better than PSVR1 and that's awesome! However, it isn't as clear as I envisioned it. I have found the sweet spot but it's just a bit more blurry than I expected. I played mostly GT7 and it blew away GT Sport, that game was ugly everywhere except the cockpit. I could tell it was more crisp in replay so PS5 still has some trouble reproducing non VR graphics.

Kayak VR had the same impressions.

Haven't played Horizon yet.

Overall, a big upgrade! Hopefully it works with PS6 and PSVR3 will just be better hardware without starting over again.

Genotype has great clarity with visuals and is locked 90. Awesome game too. Valve-esque Metroid game.
