"In addition, the live service game Helldivers 2, which was released in February last year, won Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer Game," Sony president Hiroki Totoki said in an earnings call, as reported by VGC.

"The fact that titles in genres we are planning to expand in the future, including titles for families and live service games, have received these awards, is a major stride towards building a broad title portfolio."

Family games are one genre that Sony is "planning to expand in the future".

Great, I think one of the things that really helped playstation early on was it's kids library that was still fun for adults too. It is notisably lacking in their more modern consoles with only 3rd party shovelware filling the gap.

And like anyone with common sense, they let the crybabies know they'll be doing both*.

It's that easy. Everybody can be happy.🤷🏾‍♂️

* Gaas and traditional (AA) singleplayer
Except GAAS is failing for them , so anyone with common sense should know they should abandon GAAS

Personally I think this is the way. Also it would be nice if they release more AA considering how long AAA games takes to develop nowadays and (hot take incoming) get back to exclusives to build a stronger more distinctive library and get people into their ecosystem like Nintendo.

They have tbh. They fired jim ryan and demoted hermen which resulted in playstation canceling bluepoint and sony bends games and pivoting off of live service back to single player gaming. The new guy in charge seems to his head on straight.

Glad to see it's done so well for a fanbase that derided "kiddie" games for so long.

What are it's updated sales at now?

Good, just don't waste the big teams on platforms and use asobi for this stuff, please and thank you.

It's literally right there in the OP.

I hope this is a small tease for a new Ape Escape game. The monkey in Astro kind of gave it away if that's on the horizon.
Perfect for dual sense controller. Just like Astro, kids will love it. Dual sense will also be perfect for this games if Sony revive this franchises like Spyro, Tomba, and Sly.

One of them already made this game called Astro Bot last year, so I'm sorry that you're out of luck.
I don't consider asobi a big team (not a knack, i'm talking about size) so if they use them on platforms i'm definitely lucky :lollipop_squinting:

Extremely logical decision imo:

- Playstation needs an audience refresh through attracting younger players.
- Playstation is planning a handheld device, and younger players are key to making it a success.

so they take the huge success of Helldivers and use it as an excuse/expanation to invest more in Live Service games like Concord?

But seriously astrobot is the best thing they have put out in years and I would love to see a resurgence of of that old Sony in more games.

I still think they should buy Toys for Bob and make a deal with Microsoft for Crash and Spyro.

It would go a long way towards building a mascot pantheon when you could have Crash, Spyro, Jak/Daxter, Ratchet/Clank, Sly Cooper, Toru, Polygon Man, Parappa the Rappa, and Astro Bot.

Would be a big investment towards kid and family friendly.

They should also mend fences with ClapHanz.

I'm sure there was a sly cooper 4 in the works a few years ago, then it got scrapped.
They did make a 4th Sly Cooper. It's called Thieves in Time. It was released for the PS3 and Vita. It is unfairly disliked by many fans because reasons. It's actually pretty cool and I recommend a playthrough if you have the means.

Thats excellent, though I'm pretty sure this was all result of winning the game of the year not exactly because of interest. I fear to what would happen if they didn't get any award or nomination.

'But... sales are not in 10s of millions...'

Glad that Sony recognized the thirst. This is our default family game, both me, my son and my wife are playing it together since the release in some form.

"Sly 4" got released already.

You should play it if you haven't.

There were some fair and logical complaints about the game (mainly the characterization and storyline), but otherwise its pretty solid.
