PS5 Slim still worth it in 2025?

Greetings, GAFers, I am in the market for a new console and I’m thinking about the PS5 Slim. At first it was the $399 Digital, but I want the option to collect physical media and games, of course I. Since the PS4 Pro, 100% of my games are digital, so I was thinking the $50 extra would be worth it.

I personally don’t consider Xbox a viable option. However, the Switch 2 has my attention. I just dont know. I can’t afford a PS5 Pro, but I need something to quench my thirst.

  1. No one in their right mind would consider Xbox a viable option today
  2. Comparing Switch 2 to PS5 Pro is like cross shopping a Nissan Sentra vs a Hybrid CR-V
  3. If you're unsure whether or not you can afford something, chances are you can't

If you are looking for a home base platform and like consoles, it's good. Some porky aaa games only run well at 30fps but other than that, almost all games look sharp and run great.

System menus are smooth but the library and store menus are annoying and those are very important.

From there, a lot of it depends on how you feel about the subscription(s).

The controller is comfortable. And most importantly, there are tons and tons of games. Most games i played lately, i played on pc, but could have played on ps5. I think one or two in the last year would have had notably compromised graphics with the others being less noticeable downgrades from my more expensive bargain-hunter pc.

If i lost mine today id replace it without much hesitation. Free controller, too lol.

It all depends on your taste, standards and money.
If you love good graphics and cinematic games go for the PS5.
If you want a new gen with a handheld and in my opinion by far the best console games go for the Switch 2.
If you want to play with a tight budget go for a used Series S with some months of Game Pass.

It's easily worth it in 2025 as long as it has the games you want to play. I'll be keeping my base PS5 as my main console during most of the PS6 gen too considering how long development times have become in this gen.

Might regret it on Wednesday if like you say you are interested in Switch 2.

Can't go wrong with both though, if its within budget.

Yes and with increasing crossgen periods it's gonna get games even after ps6 is released
Yeah I mean even now the PS4 is still getting a lot of games, I'd say like 70% of PS5 releases also comes on PS4.

I can imagine the same thing with the Switch 2.

With the budget of games being higher and higher, the sales not being enough even when it sells 10M or even more... They'll release more and more crossgen titles, gaps between gens also are not as big as before (especially since Pro consoles).

And I'm ok with that, recently I had to play on PS4 (Pro) after being on PS5 since day one and... It's totally fine.

So yeah, buying a PS5 Slim in 2025 is perfectly fine for at least the next 5 years. 7/8 if you're not hurry.
