Pushsquare “PS5 Disc Drive Stock Still a Source of Intense Irritation for Many”

Seem that is the case, but I am sure Sony isn't that unreasonable when they ban people right?
Usually Sony bans people for personal messages sent to other PSN accounts if you are reported (I don't know if they investigate). Other times they ban for fraud if you were unlucky and bought and used a stolen gift card from the grey market. Also, don't ever try chargeback after PSN purchase as you will get instant ban. There is also a risk if your region doesn't match with your IP address.

From what I know, Steam on PC is far more forgiving. If you buy a stolen key, Steam just revokes your license without banning you. But Steam doesn't like VPN tricks and for that you can get banned.

Only shareholders and rabid fanboys will be happy about it.

What fucks me up that there are "normal" gamers that want physical media to die.
yeah exactly. Advocating for physical to die is nonsense.
Sure, steam is all digital but you have cdkeys websites competing, you have access to your game files, can copy, downgrade version and do whatever you want (if no denuvo but still).
on PSN... nothing. You are forced to accept updates, play online etc. With physical disc, you can play offline, patch or don't patch(interesting choice sometimes), game is not tied to your account and retailers compete with pricing

I'm kind of worried now...

- The last 2 years I've been mostly using gift/wallet fund cards from Instant Gaming since I can get the 50€ ones for 39.99€.

- Regarding the region/IP address, I moved to another EU country but my account is from the previous EU country I resided in (both are fully supported by Sony btw).

I never shit talk/send messages to others nor have I ever done a charge back though so...

Always the same bullshit.
In the end the drive is still sold with a profit and all those costs you are mentioning are paid by the customers.
Sony could shit out drives if they wanted to and it seems you barley buy physical, because on top of all those mentioned costs they are also cheaper than digital. And why do you think those external drives exist in the first place and there are no more consoles with a built in drive? Exactly, to push people more into digital.

yep. I can understand that decision.
Physical gaming is very important and sony is screwing themselves over with forcing digital

Ironically, the reason I want a disc drive isn't for physical games. I don't have any of those. But I do have a bunch of Blu Ray movies and TV series I'd like to watch. That's why I need the disc drive. Were it not for that, I'd probably have been okay with going all-digital.

While I am recently in a phase of no gaming, I still grab games on sales every now and then, but today I was thinking SIE probably won't like that I build up huge libraries which will prevent me from buying more games I don't have time to play.

PS5's UI for managing digital libraries is very lackluster, and instead of providing easier ways for me to browse a large library, I get subscription service banners and links for the same games I already own.

I check in on the PS5 every once in a while and I saw we got a new UI-update with wallpapers, but accessing my library is still many clicks away, and we still got no way to place custom folders on the start menu.
