Usually Sony bans people for personal messages sent to other PSN accounts if you are reported (I don't know if they investigate). Other times they ban for fraud if you were unlucky and bought and used a stolen gift card from the grey market. Also, don't ever try chargeback after PSN purchase as you will get instant ban. There is also a risk if your region doesn't match with your IP address.Seem that is the case, but I am sure Sony isn't that unreasonable when they ban people right?
From what I know, Steam on PC is far more forgiving. If you buy a stolen key, Steam just revokes your license without banning you. But Steam doesn't like VPN tricks and for that you can get banned.
