PSN might be melting

There isn't a great thread to ask this in, but I might as well try this one:

The Evil Within is 10% off on PSN right now. Anyone know how long that deal will last? Either definitively when it will end, or historically with similar deals?

I want to hold off for reviews, but if it's going to be full price by then, I may have a choice to make.

It is for PS+ preorders until release, its been like that since preorders for it went live.

This is Sony's Achilles heel. I'm going to reconsider my Sony "membership" when my ps plus sub runs out next year. Better servers and better way to filter your download list. Come on Sony, up your game dammit.

Yea I know I've pretty much decided to let PSN lapse next June myself. I pay for both live and PSN as it is now and honestly I can't justify paying for both and live may have some issues at times but nothing on the level PSN seems to stay at a lot.

He's not saying that NBA 2k15 online is suffering, he's saying the release would be one of the symptoms for PSN being slow

I've been saying it was pretty shit ever since the PS3 came out, and somehow it's still not been improved. Microsoft's experience with Live really shows, since Xbox Live itself has been around for nearly 12 years (next month it turns 12) while PSN as we know it has only been around for nearly 8 years. And almost no improvements have really been made on that front

I still shake my head every time someone says PSN has caught up to Live. Maybe they're referring to a certain aspect or something but between content offerings, features and overall stability I don't see any area where PSN comes close.

Driveclub hasn't connected for me all day, and it seems Diablo isn't working either.

EDIT: Diablo is sort of working.

It's fine for me, just started downloading all the free PS+ games for PS4 via the console store, no hiccups or errors.

I expected Sony to fix most of the issues with PSN by now. Seems like they still haven't. I am definitely disappointed in the current state of affairs, which continues despite the introduction of paid online.

The convenience of the all-digital future.

Other digital platforms do not have these issues nearly as much as PSN. Steam, a free-to-use platform, is faster at everything and is reliable until their Seasonal sales. Then everything goes downhill. PSN is a paid platform that should not have these issues for just a large game releasing. What are you paying for that isn't getting a better service than free ones? I do not own a PS4 so I cannot say with certainty that the download speeds are good or not, but with my experiences with the PS3 the download speeds were subpar.

It seems to be working fine for me right now. I was hoping the PS+ version of Driveclub was going to be up, though.

Do bear in mind that Sony wants people to be able to connect in a timely fashion. Connection issues do more than just make people upset about their Friends list, Trophy syncing, or Online play experience. They hinder gamers' ability to give Sony money. PSN has been upgrading itself--but the more units Sony sells, the more the stress on the network goes up, negating any gain Sony made on that front. Most of the features being affected are the free ones that everyone has access to whether they have Plus or not. Sadly, there is no magic bullet to the problem--especially given Sony's financial woes. They'll get there. Cue the Soooony meme?

Bottom line, we can all get upset about it, but at the end of the day the system will still be slow at times of peak usage. Endure and survive!

PSN has been acting weird for a couple days now.

Yeah. Really since Destiny went live, PSN has been having some issues. Personally other than a few short times, PSN has been good for me since PS4 release. But these past few weeks has been not so good.

With the Driveclub launch, Destiny with the new events, and NBA 2K15 PSN is melting right now, the servers are super slow and friend requests take a lot of time to work.

Is everyone else having these problems??

Protip: accepting and sending friend requests via the PlayStation app is super easy and fast, and it actually works.

Maybe sony should take some of the money they are charging us for online play and fix this shit. Its annoying how PSN says I'm getting 30 down and 5 up but friends request take forever so I know its not my side and totally Sony. This is with a a 50/50 connection.

Same here. I had no issues until the past couple weeks. I can barely get the app to work and loading my friends list and messages is ridiculously slow.

My PS4 briefly forgot my PS+ status. I had to restart the system. Scary. I could get into Iron Banner in Destiny, and I couldn't figure out why.

I've remotely added Spelunky to my download list from the webstore and it's still in "downloading" and has been since noon. It's only a 300Mb file so I assume i'm in the same boat as you.

I got Spelunky, Pix and Dust downloading but my friends list is being really janky and DriveClub PS+ is nowhere to be seen.

The "PS+ Exclusive" DriveClub is up, for 49.99. But no "PS+ Edition" for free.

I'm sure this is deliberate to get a few quick sales before everyone goes "Huh? There's a free version? Well why would I pay 50 bucks then?!"

someone sonewhere deep inside psn needs to read more about maximum default open FDs, and other related default os limits on simultaneous users connections sockets sessions database handles open files and so on and so forth.
the amount of actual COMPUTE going on to correctly process all psn activity is probably less than two or three GPUs running a graphically intensive game.
its all about all those (changeable) limits and how they interact.

I liked it better when Sony was in last place. At least I could play online back then.

Haha this is actually true. I never had a problem with PS3 online features. The PS4 has been a clusterfuck every time the smallest event of note occurs.
