Queens of the Stone Age - Villains |OT| One Last Feel-Good Hit of the Summer

Different strokes and all that but it really shatters my perception of neogaf's demographic when T-Swizzle's latest gets 10 pages before a single even drops as opposed to this joint.

No judgement, I get down with Taylor's music!

My friend, in my old age I've learned that something can be extremely popular and hot garbage at the same time.

Currently listening on Spotify, that build up on Feet Don't Fail Me. LAWD

I really liked TWYUTD but now you guys have pointed out it sounds like a car advert backing track that's all I can hear.

Damn you GAF.

FUCK YOU, BALTIMORE!

Totally loving it! So many bangers

I've had the Feet Don't Fail Me riff in my head all day at work so good!

Also The Way You Used To Do is a banger

Do I hear Dave Grohl screaming at the end of Domesticated Animals? Sounds like his screams

Just put it on. The intro and then that dirty guitar. Oh Queens, never die.

Nothing is ever going to top SFTD, but just keep feeding me that guitar.

I am a massive QOTSA fan but I am not digging this album at all, not even after several plays. I think most songs sounds generic. Some have lyrics that just make me cringe (especially Fortress). I cannot comprehend the fact that these are the same guys that gave us the brilliant I Appear Missing. What the hell happened. At most I kind of like three songs, of which two were already released.

Not to turn this into a ranking wankfest but SFTD > LC > RR > QOTSA > LUL >>>> ERA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> this piece of shit.

I do respect the fact they try to do something new each time, but I prefer more heavy music. I miss my drums and heavy guitars.

I like it. It's not blowing my mind like '...Like Clockwork' did but it's enjoyable. We'll see what repeated listens do for me, but Spotify autoplayed "Sick Sick Sick" when the album finished so I'm in no rush to go back to the beginning.

yeah, totally agree!

I miss the heavier qotsa a lot, this shit is too pop-rock for me...where are the guitar riffs ala Regular John or Avon? that's what Qotsa are for me.

Gotta echo Steeven and Whitebison here. I expected a bit more after Like Clockwork. My opinion may still change, but it's how I feel right now.

Feet don't fail me is in the top 3 of Qotsa album openers though.

Vulture's review:

Villains feels purposeful and sinister even in the T. Rex strut of ”Un-Reborn Again" and the nearly seven-minute barrage of riffs assaulting ”The Evil Has Landed." It's like a snarling, evil thing cut loose and raging. I couldn't ask this band for more.

Listening to it on Spotify at the moment, Feet Don't Fail Me really surprised me in a good way. Not sure how i feel about Domesticated Animals but Fortress sounds cool.

Hopefully it grows on me even more

Holy fuck, the intro on Feet don't fail me is just Godly. When those drums hit, it is impossible to not start moving.

Incredible album. The only song I dont like on it is the single. Fortress is catchy as fuck.

Just finished my first listen on Spotify. Ended with ordering the CD on Amazon (was waiting to see how the rest was based on the single).

Opener is great. The Way Yog Used to Do still sucks. Domesticated Animals was a bit inconsistent for me.

But then Fortress onward is great. Really pleased because I was getting worried.

Good effort, wish they would put out longer LPs though because I can see myself skipping those two mentioned tracks a lot :/

I think domesticated will grow on me though.

First listen was lukewarm. Trying to pay more attention on my 2nd play through now. QOTSA is always a grower for me.

Anyhow, I don't agree with the hate for TWYUTD. Sure it's a bit pop-y, and would be right at home in an Apple commercial, but it's not bad. I am a fan of their more accessible stuff, though.

Edit: just checked my QOTSA playlist which has
10 tracks from SFD
9 tracks from LC
8 tracks from L2P
4 tracks from EV

So I guess, by this metric, I like Songs For the Deaf best. Didn't even realize I was missing the first two, lol.

The chorus of "Villains of Consequence" might be one of the best things this band has ever done. Fuck, the whole song.

The riffs on Un-Reborn Again are heavy as hell. Then it adds in the synths and that damn sax

1st listen through and the album is amazing. Was to be expected as Arcade Fire already released disappointment of the year.

I can see that The way you used to do is on to be a proper single for radios or w/e but it does not fit in with the rest of the tracks. Shouldve been saved for the next Eagles of death metal album instead.

And you ppls are drunk. All their albums are solid but Songs for the deaf is in top 5 albums ever made :)

Fortress is hitting the feels after a few listens especially after finding out Josh wrote that song for his daughter and Villains of Circumstance is a great bookend to the album.

Got my Indie Vinyl on Tuesday (guess it pays to live in NJ sometimes as it was shipped from NYC) and I have been pretty much playing it non stop since. They are one of my favorite current bands. This album just continues their sound. Love it. Looking forward to seeing them at Madison Square Garden later on this year.
