Yesterday, I was at a shop doing take out for Thanksgiving dinner with fam. I ordered a tons of shit from the hot station, including 2x orders of pork cutlets and some other shit. An old couple were watching and laughed "hey leave us some" as they wanted it too. There was plenty though. Super nice couple and we chatted for a bit about dinners and they were buying take out too for their dinner. I bought it and went to my car, then circled back to visit a different store in the plaza.

After dropping off the food in trunk, I went to Dollarama to pick up some foil trays because I had a feeling the food needed to be warmed up by the time dinner started and it came in plastic containers. So I planned to tell my bro to put the food in the foils and shove in the oven to warm up.

The same couple was in there again buying stuff too. They musta left right after I left the restaurant and beelined to Dollarama while I went to my car. The old man and I laughed when we saw each other and we briefly chatted again. Then I bought the foils and left. Never had a coincidence like that all within maybe 10 minutes.
sounds like the beginning of a Christmas horror movie. Next you meet them at place they have no business being at, with the conclusion being they were shopping around to prepare you for dinner

Scientists estimate that the ocean(s) of Europa (one of Jupiter's moons), is 40 to 100 miles (60 to 150 kilometers) deep. As a comparison, the Mariana Trench on Earth is approximately 7 miles deep. Europa's ice shelf or " ice shell" is estimated between 10 to 15 miles (15 to 25 kilometers) thick. As further comparison, my wallet is approximately 4 inches deep and is a baron wasteland, filled with mostly dust, and memories of paper money.
40-100miles? Imagine the pressure.

I can't eat in the morning as I get older. Like my stomach just doesn't want to deal.

I found baked/pan fried veggies are a good go to fit the morning. Asparagus and carrots in a bowl of mashed potatoes.

Fuck. That's the oldest sentence I've ever written
Food in the morning (breakfast) has not always been a thing. Romans didnt partake, only consuming 1 meal a day at noon. Middle ages you couldnt have any food before morning mass. Things changed around 1700's. With the industrial revolution, high energy morning food was to sustain individuals through the day.

Personally, i have always struggled with food before noon. As a child onwards to this day. It causes nauseousness for me. Not age related and medically, nothing wrong (so the tests say).

I love listening to whiny tech and office babies cry about being forced to go back to the office. It's cathartic.

Welcome to the really world dum dums.
I hated working from home. At some point it didn't feel like "home" anymore. I can't really explain it.

There were a few from my office who loved working from home and suprise suprise: they were all smokers.

StreetsofBeige StreetsofBeige pretty much sums up what I see today in my workplace.

Post in thread '700+ Ubisoft France staff walk out on a three-day strike in dispute over home working and pay' https://www.neogaf.com/threads/700-...r-home-working-and-pay.1676395/post-269705166

Coworkers I've known for over 10 years who had no problems working at the office suddenly come up with anxiety, bipolar disorder or autism excuses.
That's what I read on Teams anyway.

It's retarded.

One person on my team moved to a place I'd say somewhere between 90-120 minutes away during rush hour. No doubt 2 hours if highways had a disruption or bad weather. So when the boss said you got to come in 2-3 days a week now, she was like "But we moved". In Toronto, there's a toll highway called 407 on the north part of the city (it's technically north of the city, but close enough). So to cut down on some time she could also drive the toll highway for probably half her trip saving her a decent amount of time. Her response..... "But 407 costs a lot"

I'm in the room too since it's team discussion. I dont give a shit since I'll drive to the office no problem. I'm not an idiot moving to a secluded part of the metro area. I look at the boss who is looking at her. And his eyes and facial expression are like "who cares. thats your problem". He actually didnt say that out loud. But anytime someone had a commute response, it was stupid. There's people 20 minutes away from the office who dont even want to come in.

Hey, best way to get people back at the office.

No joke.

Get the secretary to announce Free Lunch Day. Free BBQ during the summer, or she orders in Greek food for everyone and watch how 95% of the office loves it and shows up that day. Only the really far away people will stay home. But all the whiners who hate commuting, claiming working from home is more productive, babysitting and daycare are harder to do now and they want to keep saving money.

Just offer the avg desk job worker a $15 free lunch with a can of pop, and watch how the office is magically packed that day.

While it was fun for awhile to work in my boxers and neglect my hygiene I needed eventually to separate my work environment from home.

I want a routine where I leave my apartment to go to work so I can then appreciate being home again and relax & disconnect.

You don't need to explain it Hrk69 Hrk69 your home became work.

I could adapt to any situation. So working from home for two years was fine. But when my company said it's time to come back, I'm all for it. Get out of the house, nice drive playing music or listening to sports radio chat, see people in person where IMO its more productive face to face, and also just meet people and have lunch with them. As a bonus I could do grocery shopping on the way home.

Ok fine, it takes extra money to pay for gas. I'm an adult. I think I can continue figuring that out just like I did at 16 when I got my drivers license.

I think for some people, it's not even about commuting costs, time or productivity. I think a lot of people are just antisocial and want to do as much from home as possible because they hate people. Like being an hardcore Uber food orderer and Amazon customer. Instead of just eating out with friends at a restaurant (like I did tonight) or window shopping, they just want no contact with people like hermits. But you cant say that to a boss as a reason to stay home.

I just want to take this post and reach out to another user here. I don't even know their name on this site! I doubt they will randomly see this post, but I want to at least try.

I am a member of another gaming themed site since 2008. I have recently run afoul of site staff due to being outspoken about their abuse of power, blatant hypocrisy, and agenda-based moderation. Years and years of it have taken their toll on my sense of logic and reason. A user there recommended that I try joining here, and so far I have been enjoying my time here very much. People here have been receptive and positive to me. A few people and I have disagreed about some stuff, and it was all very calm and civil. I saw something that I didn't like, I reported it, and I think the outcome was that the user had a right to express themselves in that instance; further reflection on my part lead me to realize that they didn't say anything wrong or inflammatory to anyone particular as much as they made a general statement about their feelings, and it was accepted by moderators. I became so accustomed to the weird, ass backwards trigger culture of the other site that I had to stop and rethink logic and common sense. It is scary how that can happen to a person over time. I lost my own damn reason.

So, to the user who went by the name Revelation218 on that site, thank you. I appreciate your recommendation to come here. It is working out very well, so far at least. I don't have anyone to yap about games and movies and pop culture stuff with, so the internet is my socialization, for better or for worse. In 2024 it can be very difficult to navigate the online waters in a world that has changed so much over time and due to world events like COVID. Finding a place to interact with and hopefully relate to others is important, and I hope that I have found a new home to do those things here in NeoGAF. If you see this, Revelation218, please feel free to reach out to me here. if you're so inclined. If not, I wish nothing but respect and good fortune to you and your loved ones. Thank you for reading this.

I'm happy you found a new home and our awful community got your back 😊

I've never had a job where it's a possibility and I didn't blame people for wanting to stay home at all when we were closer to covid times but enough is enough.

Some industries it was probably a boon; employees were happier and at least electricity costs were down. But I'll never agree on this insistence that every job that was remote needs to still be remote. Or that it isn't needed to collaborate.

Those people are straight lying. There's certain ideas and concepts that can only come together in person. I'll never be convinced otherwise.

The antisocial aspect is also huge like you said StreetsofBeige StreetsofBeige .

Not sure which thread to be in, here or in the drunk thread. Feeling sad. Why? Missing my parents. Wondering why it seems hard for other family to talk with me. Wondering what I did to make most of my friends go poof (I actually know the answer to this, I am a very private person). I think I'm still young (just in my early 40s) but I feel...misplaced? I find myself watching old shows I grew up with, trying to remember what my pre-teen years were like.

Constantly wanting to be away from work and adult responsibilities, but once I am...all the things I envisioned myself doing, I don't do.

Work will probably suck in the morning, but hey...it could ALWAYS be worse. I'm actually pretty blessed I think.

Gonna build a new PC this Christmas, I think. Current one is very outdated (1070, i7-6700k, 16gb, etc). Not only that but my cat jumped onto my PC and one of the fans at the top has broken. Probably why I'm getting temps of 87c whilst playing WoW haha.

Edit: Is it actually worth building a new PC if I'm only going to play WoW and older horror games?

This is basically it.

Disconnecting from work is something I absolutely need.

Those specs are exactly what I had in early 2019. That CPU will struggle in anything new. I could feel it back then. I replaced it with a 9900K and that started holding me back.

If you only play WoW/older games and are happy with the performance then stick with it, I guess. But since you’ve had it this long then pretty much anything will be a good upgrade. You won’t need to spend loads.

You could do a 5800X3D build with 32GB RAM and with a 3000 series GPU. It’s not the latest and greatest but still a big upgrade. The 5800X3D comes surprisingly close to a 9700X. The 5800X3D has been one of the best value CPUs and has held up really well.

Right now a 7800X3D is the best value CPU for gaming but the prices have been going up on that because 9000 cpus suck. The 9800X3D which should be good is coming out in a couple weeks.

32GB ram will be good enough. 16GB is not really enough anymore and 64GB is overkill except for 2-3 games.

If you can find a deal on a 3000 series GPU like a 3060-3080 then I suppose that’d be good. For 4000 gpus I think the 4070 Ti is probably best value. 5000 gpus should be out next year but likely only the high end at first but you might get a good price on a 4000 GPU with people selling theirs.

TL;DR: don’t bother if you’re happy with performance and don’t want to play newer games. Hold off a few months more and you should get good deals on current CPU/GPUs.

Cheers, mate. Gonna wait and see what's available in a few months as you suggested. Like I said - I'm just wanting to play WoW and older horror titles. Makes sense.

Pretending to be O.K. because dealing with shit in a healthy way takes too much time and effort, and taking that time and effort precludes dealing with it in a "healthy" way due to other responsibilities that require the same time and effort.

I have conditioned my coworkers to stop asking me, "How are you?" when greeting me for the first time each day. I do not follow the petty social conventions of, "Fine, thanks, and you?" If I am not fine (which I am not), I will not lie and play the fake social politeness game. And when you tell people how you really are, most of them don't want to hear it and don't care, so don't ask!

For some reason, Need for Speed Unbound takes forever to update. It is the most annoying damn game.

I barely play it and the updates are a real pain in the ass.

I need a show that I can eat dinner and watch that doesn't show anything gross. Doom Patrol is not one of those shows.

I need some kind of weird little sitcom. I was watching Red Dwarf, but I ran out of the new episodes. I don't feel like digging into the old stuff.

I've been there and it sucks. What's even worse is knowing that email will get leaked as much as the old one. Same with phone numbers
I've done it before a few times. Years ago some one was stalking me and hacked into my accounts. As a result I became a bit paranoid and very conscious of security/privacy online. Even after making a new email and getting a new phone number I still didn't feel safe so I changed again.

I swore that this time I'd stick with my email and I have had it for about 5 years now. What's spooked me is that recently I noticed a lot of log in attempts on my account from all sorts of countries like USA, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, China, Egypt, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc. It seems to be a common problem as I've seen others report it online and I have beefed up the security as much as I can so I should be fine but it's bothering me.

Maybe it's time for another clean start. I will only change my email. Making a new phone number would be way more hassle. For a while I did have a second number to use when signing up to stuff if I wasn't sure about them and only then using my main number if I trusted it.

I've made my new email and I should be able to move everything over in a few days. I'd not delete my current email. I'd keep it active just in case and forward any mail to my new one. If after a while I feel it's safe to delete it then I will.

Is it just me or ameriGAF is less active than euroGAF? Maybe the split of forums was a split between the old world and the colonies.
I think FreedomGAF is predominantly in the gaming section.

simpsons-nerd.gif

I'm kidding of course. Please don't come at me with your drones that fire fish finger missiles.

That’s what I’m talking about. The gaming section is barely updated by the time smugGAF wakes up. I think they are busy deciding between a sassy lady and a TV presenter or something.
I just know for certain that console warriors don't exist in europaland anymore. They collect records now and probably own a restaurant or a barber shop.

I was watching a horror film last night and I heard someone in my garden. Been a few thefts around the area lately. Didn't go out to check.
the other night i heard my bike bell ringing 4 times out in the garden. the fence is like 6ft high so not like someone could just pass and ring it. my bike is right up against my house. not even my neighbour would be able to touch it. i didn't hear my gate opening, i didn't get any motion sensor notifications and i checked the live view right away and nobody was there :messenger_ghost:
