Remnant 2 | Review Thread

I'am curious about this game.

Is there a big variety in player abilities, weapons etc?

Is exploring finding loot interesting? Or is this game closer to elden ring of or FF16😄.

Good build variety etc.

Thanks

Finding loot is interesting cause you can use most weapons without issue. You just need to upgrade them with material you find in the world.

Best part about the game is replaying at higher difficulty with your newly maxed out gear. It's procedurally generated so your next run will be different.

I finally found the Sagestone ring. Extra XP is always a nice.
Although in the first game, it gave out a bigger percentage. Still, 10% is good.

Polygon guy/girl hated it. The end of the review basically complained that it's so hot in California and that they reviewer was sick of post apocalypse games. Okay..
Color me surprised. They are an insufferable bunch of clowns who couldn't review a grain of sand. Their entire organization belongs flung straight into the ether along with their ideologies.

Steam reviews are going to be interesting in a few hours
It depends if people keep their expectations in check.

On my aging 3700X, 32gb Ram, GTX 1080ti PC, i can get a very consistent 50fps at 1080p at High settings with XeSS on Quality. I need to change my desktop to 50hz to get that smooth 50fps with vsync, there are drops into the 50's if i play at 60hz, at High settings anyway. I'd rather play at a consistent 50fps with High settings though.

Seriously... that custodian’s eye boss only a few hours in needs to calm the f*ck down . I’m getting destroyed in solo here 😩

so far on my 7800X3d + 7900XTX

keeping a solid 60 w/ 4k + FSR (quality) + ultra settings. (gpu utilization around 90% so some tweaking could be done possibly)
-make sure to disable motion blur, image is much better w/o IMO
-if you want native w/ this setup iv found 1440p is pretty much locked 60 as well.

So I've noticed that when you use the checkpoint stone, the green bar on top disappears. Does that mean I've lost that experience and that I should play until it maxes out before touching the stone?

Fucking hell.

Pre-ordered on Amazon. Got a notification last night it wouldn't arrive today.

Stopped by GameStop after work. They hand no copies.

Went to Walmart. No copies.

Gave up and bought digital version after getting home.

I don’t think so . So far what I like with this game is when you die on don’t loose anything you gathered . You just die and have to reface the enemies in your way but you always keep what you picked up if you die

The combo of custodian’s eye and the boss right after was quite the challenge but thankfully they have only 3 moves each more or less so you can work around the chaos after about 10 tries each 👍

Looks like it's running at 720p on consoles in balanced/performance but still drops to low 40's in heavier places, quality 1200pish 30fps but it drops below. It's using nanite and virtual shadow maps but not lumen.

Arsic

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
I went to watch 3 other people’s initial play through today to see how much the level maps RNG, and I was mind fucked.

All 3 people got completely different planets back to back with all new enemies and bosses , loot, etc. Like they had started a completely different game than me.

No wonder some people are upset depending on which planet they rolled the dice to begin on lol.

How much randomization is there ? This was incredible to see.

Game is awesome so far.

There's one boss in particular that makes the framerate TANK to like 10 fps. Was playing on PS5 Balanced mode.

Went with Handler for my first character.

I tried it on PC and it feels like an uninspired, copycat kind of a game. Nothing I havent seen a million times before and almost always it's the cheaper, low quality version of it. Those TLOU moments in design and dialog are just unbelievable, how can someone creative try to do something like this...

No chance I'm playing this....

I like how many secrets are in this game. I remember there being some environmental puzzles/secrets in the first one, but this one seems to take it to the next level. Found an apparent dead-end, looked down and saw a broken pathway and thought "if this was a Miyazaki game, that would be a secret path."
So I took a leap of faith and sure enough, it led me to a secret miniboss and melee weapon.

Hmm I don't think it was called that.
It was a boss where it spawned levitating mutated fly things and you had to shoot the small glowing bug that would grab onto you.

Played this with a friend for 4 hours straight tonight

The Tutorial portion totally sucks and we were both groaning. Several dungeons in and just what the fuck were they thinking with that Tutorial as a first impression? It starts off selling you some K-Mart TLoU and suddenly you're time traveling into some badass level design dungeons with locked doors, traps, puzzles and cool secrets.

Had a shitload of fun, this game is great...after the terrible opening.

I never drew any parallels between this and TLOU.

Completely different games. This game puts almost zero effort in story/characters etc.

Buy the game, trust me.

Watch some video for the lore first.
Better than Diablo IV?

Is this good if you want some sorta Souls-ish shooter like Destiny with harder enemies?

I have this game in my cart on PSN with credit. Just wanting to make sure before I get it.

Watching some videos... this is like a mix of Dark Souls, Division and Destiny?
Would that be an accurate description of how this plays?
Is the world open at all? Or do you just teleport to each area?

It’s apparently dynamic and. Or using terrible fsr2. Quality mode is about 1300p. All modes output static image around 1440p quality.
So at least their is that.

Ue5 is such a waste of performance for the crappy nanite stuff. Nobody goes and admires pixels this close on random rocks.

You teleport to areas. The game has typical medium sized shooter levels (similar to Destiny) but there are roguelite elements to them (enemies, side quests, bosses, items, etc. could be randomized). Yes, Dark Souls + The Division is a good comparison point on how the game feels.

The game is fucking fantastic, everything I could have wanted from a sequel. Started with Gunslinger, Veteran difficulty (oh it's a challenge lol), both weapons feel so damn satisfying to use with solid DualSense feedback. Playing in Balanced mode the game has been a rock solid 60 with only a single 2 second dip which was some weird anomaly because there weren't even any enemies on screen, otherwise *zero* performance issues. Playing 100% solo as I did the first game.

Immediately upon entering the first world I was struck by the sense of mystery, the unknown, ready to explore the alien landscape before me. Last game that have me this feeling was Returnal so it's been a while. Carefully trekked the desolate, wind-battered land filled with drones and cloaked robots then descended into the bowels of a facility where it seems some zombie-like experiments have gone wrong, you never know what you're going to get! Already know this will have me hooked over the next few weeks until Armored Core drops, what an incredible year it's been for gaming!

Alright, back into the belly of the beast!

Not sure if better than diablo, completely different games, but sure i like it way more than diablo.

And yes you get a souls with guns and the game has a lot of exotic, great looking weapon.

If you like making builds, this is the game for you (there are like 5 more hidden classes other than the 5 you have in the beginning).

Supposed to be ue5 tsr with dsr. Gonna be a long gen for everyone thinking ue5 was going to be 1440p 60fps on consoles. Next up should be that Avieum game, using lumen/nanite and vsm. If it comes in rockin 720p aswell the writings on the wall. I don't think you should just be calling out ue5 though for bad performance, other releases recently also hit 720p with massive frame drops.

I loathe unreal engine. Custom engines all the way.
Hogwarts was good though but it’s ue4

I would like to see lots more use of other engines aswell, unfortunately even top tier devs like the ex dice guys who formed embark went with ue5 instead of making their own. I don't think things will move the way we would like though and ue5 is going to be even more prevalent than ue4 was.

Got it on PS5 and PC (4090), cos that's just how I roll these days.

- PS5 -
  • Upscaled 1440p still looks sharp, don't listen to the nonsense about this being "720p lolz" when you have It on screen it looks great (77" OLED)
  • Nice PS5 haptics which adds to the immersion, sharp controls
  • The sound is a bit messy separation isn't great but it could just be the basic 5.1 config

- PC -
  • Runs fine, using a 4090, hits about 115fps with DLSS Quality with Frame Gen smooth as butter
  • Sharper than the PS5 of course, and looks clearer but it's not like night and day, the way id describe it is like playing on Series S vs PS5, clearly lower res and has the impression of less depth on the PS5 version
  • Sound is a lot better in this version on a surround system but that's more likely to Windows native Atmos support

Where will I play?

No idea. Whatever is easier.
