I've found myself reaching for a non-existent embed button quite a few times now, and not just in politics threads. Would be nice if we could embed tweets in posts instead of having to screencap, crop, upload, then image tag them.

I believe this was tested once a year or two ago but was removed because tweets can be deleted, accounts can be renamed, etc, so screenshots were considered the better solution.

They tend to get lost among the discussion with all the member quotes, whilst seeing it in tweet format is a cue for a new external development to the thread topic

We had this very briefly, and IIRC it was abused almost immediately, so it was disabled. Embedding tweets is (or at least was) in the forum code.

I'd hate seeing even more Twitter content than already shows up, but as long as there's a link to the tweet and account in question it's not horrible.

The biggest problem with random tweet screenshots is that anyone can screenshot a vague account and you have no idea what the account is and whether their being verified is significant, and very little idea of the account's history or truthfulness of what they're saying. Considering how many bots and/or Russian accounts are on Twitter it makes a crazy amount of noise that leads to reactionary posts in a forum situation.

Twitter has become a haven for abuse and misinformation.

Yes pretty much it's a modified version of vBulletin so I'd assume anything is an upgrade from this.
