Well about 2nd playthrough.
Like the original he's there pretty much from the beginning, so very very very intrusive throughout the RPD. Don't expect to explore at your leisure during scenario B.

Am reading that more and more online the past 24 hours. Doesn't really sound like my idea of fun, someone who prefers more leisurely gaming.

Oh well, I'll sit tight and maybe see if he can be some day patched out of the pc version until an inevitable final showdown I guess takes place.

I made it to the sewers and to echo what others have said, I think Mr.X is more annoying than anything else. What's more, the game doesn't need him. It's great with zombies and lickers.

It hasn't ruined the game but I think it's a misstep. What are the chances of them patching him to be less frequent? Or maybe add a silencer attachment so you can at least shoot things without calling him. This, and for the zombies to go down a bit quicker. For me, I'd have reduced the number of ammo drops but upped the crit chance. Just a slight adjustment. Last night a single zombie took 8 shots, a defensive knife, then got up and took another 6 shots of the upgraded Matilda all to the head. Wtf? Mr.X being annoying and the zombies being slightly bullet spongy seem to be the only criticisms the game is getting.

It's still an amazing game. I was afraid of cutscenes constantly interrupting game flow like in RE6, but the cutscenes are few, and very good. Once they're done it's all gameplay. Bring on the night so I can get back to it.

So far I'm loving it, but if there is one thing to complain about it's the knife breaking. I really do not like that. I don't know if you can get a better knife that won't break later on, but it's disappointing cause knifing seems really fun. And I'd like to try a playthrough just knifing once I beat everything.

If you shoot all of the Mr Raccoon statues it unlocks an Unbreakable knife to use in future playthroughs

My opinion has changed a bit on the game. Playing through it more MR.X was a mistake to be in both campaigns. He should of just been in one to differentiate between them, just like the original. It really feels like REmake 3 with nemesis.. so now when the actual REmake 3 comes out, i'll feel like ive been there, done it already. His constant presence it not true to the original and brings the game down from god-tier status. It's behind RE4, RE7, REmake and the original RE2 for me now.

Since he teleports it will be interesting to what could be exploited to make him bearable. Currently it's only exploiting save rooms and select rooms he won't enter, which is just tedious after awhile .

Funny thing is there actually is one for one of Claire's weapons, yet in A you can only get it after Mr. X. In B you can get it before RPG part 2. Would be nice if there was more silencers for more weapons, Leon is just kind of screwed.

Ooooooh yeah!!! I’m playing on hardcore and the zombies are really hard to bring down. I don’t know it’s random or not but sometime in 2 shots their gets explode.
 
Ehhh, I fucking wish this game was on Switch. I'll get a ps4 used eventually for tlou2 and death stranding, and once I've got that I'll look into RE2. But hopefully by then, a Switch port has been confirmed.

In the meantime, I redownloaded Resident Evil 1 and 2 (ps1 versions) on my Vita and started playing them for the first time. I'm determined to get passed the shitty controls. Thankfully I learned about the Type C control config option, which is available in the psn versions of RE1 and 2. It makes the games much easier to control than the shit tank controls. Still kind of annoying, but a huge improvement over than tank ones. I'm going through RE1 first, and have gotten much further than I ever could before, but RE2 is the one I really wanna get into.

Head explosions are random, same as REmake. Some weapons seem to have a way higher chance though- Claire's semi auto does it really often compared to Leon's, and I think the shotgun is guaranteed if you're close enough.

Most of the time, shooting a zombie in the head once to stun it and then running past is more practical than trying to kill it for good.

No kick, you get access to RE4 style knives later but they're breakable. You gotta learn how to kite zombies around and run past.

You can weave through twisty turny rooms and lead him up ladders or stairs to get a bit of a lead since he moves slower on those than on flat ground.

Outside of that, I've found you can sometimes crack a door in a room with multiple exits and wait until he walks past to give him the slip, but it's not super consistent. Worked great on multiple occasions in the west 1F safe room, but when I tried it with the 2F east one he just waited outside, music blaring the whole time :messenger_sad_relieved:

Since he teleports it will be interesting to what could be exploited to make him bearable.

Same - a licker got me easily on standard. I shudder to think how I'll fare on Hardcore. Though I admit I am tempted to try the ink ribbon system ...
The ink ribbons are great, do they just not exist in lower difficulties? Weird choice by the devs.

On hardcore it seems like any second major hit will kill you. Grabbed twice by a zombie means reloading. If a locker hits you then pounces on you...reloading. It’s tough, but also makes you think about wasting ammo and avoidance.

Hardcore is the only way to play though from my perspective as a RE fan. Just finished 1 again before this dropped and without ink ribbons and dangerous enemies, the game doesn’t hold the same sense of urgency and weight.

Just my opinion though. People have different tolerances.

Uggh, i hate doing that unless its on hardest difficulty. Please tell me i have more than enough ammo to kill every zombie on normal.

Yeah, my final criticisms:

Stomp stomp stomp: Mr X is just annoying. Simple as that. He was MEGA annoying my first run as Leon, then when I knew the layout of everything, what to do, and when he would show up, I made sure to kill everything along the way and board up a bunch of windows so my paths would be clear for him. This made him much more manageable, but still nothing but an annoyance. Needing to manage him and not take the time to kill everything will make speedruns an absolute pain in the ass. This guy in himself drops the game from a 10 to an 8 for me because his presence maximizes the effect of what could have been considered minor flaws.

Undead and practically indestructible: The zombies take too many hits. Now after playing on Normal I have played half the game on Assisted to compare and this is really how it should be. They take less bullets overall, crit explode more often, and if you combo with knife you can save a lot of ammo. They aren't pushovers if you let them get near you, but you don't have to keep at them for so long. That's a Resident Evil game. In fact, the Assisted aiming felt more like original RE2 since the fixed perspectives in that game meant general direction = hit.

Combat peanut brittle: My first playthrough I was so struck by how quickly the knife broke that I was afraid to use it. Now as Claire I know you get them often enough for it to not be a problem, especially if you equip grenades where you might get caught out to expend those as counters, but now when one gets low on damage I think okay this one is about to break but I'll still want one so I'll have two inventory slots taken by knives for now. Neither of these should be the case. Just like with BotW, knives breaking after 4 uses doesn't make any sense at all. Yes I have already gone to the trouble of unlocking the unbreakable knife, but I shouldn't have to bother. It was a poor choice that doesn't make it harder or scarier, but just adds a layer of annoyance and makes it less like any other Resident Evil in existence.

Survival-Troller: At first it seems like it'll be just like RE2 in balancing the choice to shoot down or avoid enemies, but Mr X quickly destroys this notion as you're forced to run through packed areas and later you see the same with other enemies being extremely hard to go around or at times even to get away from by leaving. In the original RE2, it was like everything was intentionally designed to be able to get past it well as an option. Zombies, dogs, lickers, mutants. The only thing that seemed like it always got a hit in were the birds (where did they go BTW?). This way great for speedruns, but with this remake everything seems way more likely to hit or grab you. So it starts out feeling like it'll be RE2 but then you realize you have to play it like RE4 with more limited inventory. Rather than balance as a mix between survival-style RE and action-style RE, it makes the game not feel scary because you can and optimally do kill everything, but the thing meant to make it scary (limited inventory) actually just becomes a layer of annoyance in this task.

So I gotta say right now it's seeming RE2 > REmake > RE4 > RE5 > RE Revelations > RE2 Remake.

Still a great game, 8/10, but with Mr X there it reshapes the way you play the entire game and therein makes the game not really know what it is. It could have been a true survival game of deliberate pacing and choices that you play out with careful execution, even adding higher difficulty levels, but he holds it back and pigeonholes how the game is to be played. I don't need a specific kind of game to think the most highly of it, but I do need it to know what it wants to be and make design choices in line with that.

Completely disagree to me the game started getting interesting when mr x is introduced, he is easily manageable and not too hard to avoid.

Hmm, maybe? If you go full guns blazing you'll find yourself empty from time to time because ammo is paced to keep you on the edge, but I was well stocked by the end of Leon A with 50 handgun rounds, 20 shotgun rounds and 17 magnum rounds.
You can save a lot of ammo by shooting out zombies' knees since it downs them and makes them less dangerous.

I've also heard that there may be an RE4-style sliding difficulty scale that gives you more or less ammo depending on how much you already have, but I dunno if that's real or just rumor.

There is definitely enough ammo to kill everything if you check everything in every room as you go. It's just the city streets before reaching RPD were never meant to be combat zones.

I think i'm going to jump on the MR X band wagon too.

At first it was great. I got Alien isolation vibes of constantly being on your toes minus the hiding.

Once the initial shock of him wears off. It's just a pain in the ass having to run around in circles.
(I wondering if they have done this on purpose to perhaps lengthen the game a bit more......"dunno"...)



They should have had something to monitor how well you were doing in game. (having plenty of ammo or kiting the zombies).
If you're doing to well. Have him show up more so you have to burn up some ammo or health.

If you've wasted every zombie in your path and have low ammo as a result. Cut his appearances down. Your fear levels will still be high as a result of low health or ammo.
I am still a fan of hearing him trotting around though.
Your ass-hole puckers up nice and tight.

Another Mr X “fan” here, although I just got to the sewers and dunno how many more times I’m gonna encounter him. I felt genuinely terrified the times when he would come out of nowhere in the worst possible moments. I just wish it WAS beatable like in the OG RE2.

Don't like the RE4 game design for the G Virus enemies and the Ivy is fucking lame pretty much being a less dangerous reskined Reaper from RE5.

Mr. X is FUNNY it makes the game funny as fuck. Outpacing him, out smarting him.

The Virgin Mr. X VS The Chad Nemesis.

True but the Zombies in RE2Remake are slow and its very easy to get a headshot. If they went down with 1 or 2 shots then the game would be way too easy.

Man Resident Evil 2 can get very stressful. Especially when you have Mr. X, two lickers, and a bunch of zombies all together in one hallway lol.

Awesome graphics, performance, tight gameplay, but story is a letdown (Sherry is funny AF tho, in the True Ending) and the Tyrant is very bad balanced.

I feel like this remake will not take the place of the original, unlike how REmake did for classic RE.

imo, it already *has* a greater sense of urgency and weight than the original had.

I understand wanting to challenge yourself, but frankly I find the 'standard' difficulty of the REmake a lot harder than the normal difficulty of the original. I mean, I must have beaten the original with a hoard of ammo. Here, things are far more difficult.

You don't know about him and all of a sudden a big man comes out of nowhere in a hallway you are familiar with. He even bursts through a wall at one point.

I am experiencing a really annoying glitch in this game. Basically, whenever I continue my scenario, the game cannot find any of my DLC, forcing me to uninstall, redownload, then reinstall.

Has anyone seen this yet? What sucks is that I am using the Samurai Edge, meaning that I don't always have a gun equipped when I start.

I know he easily manageable and not too hard to avoid - it's not the fear of death that's the problem. It's the gameplay element that he introduces - that is waiting for him to stomp away. I'm just standing still thinking about what coding X has.

If you could inflict enough damage and he would sod off for a bit or drop some ammo that would be a cool gameplay element. But just standing still doing nothing, how is that fun? For reference, playing on standard I've only had to run from him a couple of times, the rest was just waiting for the footstomps to disappear - that's what you're supposed to do isn't it?

And I think we don't even see him arrive this time. He's just there.

This game is too tough! I haven't even got to MR.X, I finally figured out I have to go up to the bell tower now I have the piece and there are 2 lickers there and I have no ammo. Screwed.

Xbox One X for me. I am not sure what's going on, but there's literally no more troubleshooting I can do, save for wiping my external hard drive, which I am not doing.

I had a full magazine in that Samurai Edge, too!

Pretty sure I heard another guy having the same issue a few pages back.
I have the X1X Deluxe version too, but so far I had no issues (European version if it matters).

I've been unable to find a performance thread - I'm not even getting a full 60fps on performance (min?) settings on my 970.i5 4690k/8GB DDR3 (all stock speeds). Does something sound wrong? Admittedly I haven't tried everything possible yet, but as I'm not currently playing I thought I'd ask. I'd upgrade the GPU but I can't choose between a 1070ti and a 2060.

If you are going to upgrade I would go for a 2060. Also your CPU might need to be upgraded though.

Are you playing at 1080p? Maybe try to raise the res so that you get a bit less CPU bound.

Ah, seems I left some info out. 1080p. I went through initially and adjusted to what I thought was a decent level, then started moving down from there. The preset for performance was purely to turn everything down. On my custom settings I kept volumetric lighting on low and shadows on medium as they're usual suspects.

To be more specific now I think about it (rushed post before), it's not actually the overall average FPS but the stuttering I get. I'm currently playing through my TV, so maybe I need to try some of the display options instead of graphical ones. I guess the only thing to do now is more testing before I report back.

Thanks for the recommendation, it does seem to be the likely route but the 6GB RAM doesn't seem that future friendly.

Edit: set the game to fullscreen (not borderless) and 59.94hz and it has done the trick. CPU & GPU both sitting at no more than 75% in the main hall, so I might see if there's anything else that I can get away with (currently sitting at a medium settings level). Or I can to switch over to my monitor and try something higher than 60fps.

Just started the game, and damn, I'm blown away.

RE Engine and Fox Engine seem to be the greatest of all time.

Is this game 60 fps on base PS4? Looks pretty smooth to me.

The engine is good but performance takes a dive in specific scenes where there is a strong light source (gas station, west hall, parking garage exit, etc) so they need to optimize something about that aspect of the lighting, then it'll basically be perfect.
