Hi everyone. We experienced a catastrophic hardware failure and had to restore from backups. Unfortunately we lost all posts since last night, but much better than the alternatives, I'm sure you would agree!

On the plus side, it was a chance to significantly upgrade our servers, which should help going forward. Thanks for your patience.

Was in this kind of situation once on my media job (flooded server room with catastrophic results) and spent whole week restoring backups. EviLore and the team at GAF are monsters considering the speedy recovery and such minuscule data loss.

The hardware failure was unrelated, just luck. The slowdown may have been the result of some of the new features we implemented like the improved search autocomplete, which has additional processing overhead. The new server hardware I ordered should help with that, though we're not fully up and running yet after the crash so performance isn't going to be optimal for a while. As for Gold, supporting GAF is always appreciated and helpful, but mainly I'm happy if you're enjoying using the site. Cheers.

Palliasso is the hero of the hour for getting everything up and running so quickly after I spun up the replacement hardware. Fortunately we have good redundant solutions in place when something like this happens. Lot of history to protect with NeoGAF.
