It saddens me how few good gaming forums are left. It's all Reddit or Discord now. The Internet feels like this now;

I sometimes don't know why discord is such a big deal. I use it because some things require you to have it, like joining a private server for a game. However, any other community i join...it just feels like old AOL chatrooms, except with more moderation and people reminding you that "hey, this topic should be in THAT channel, not this channel"...like...okay...it's the gaming channel, but excuse me for not knowing there was a switch 2 thread....sometimes i just wish people would stop being so bitchy about that stuff.

Same here. I wanted to see if Oblivion came out. Got a good chuckle from their thread about how LoTF devs are chuds though, so it was worth it.

Well that's because it is just chatroom software. If you're not there at the time, then you can't really participate in the discussion.

It all comes down to how the discussions are formatted:

There's Discord which is chat. It is of the moment.

There's Reddit which is also rather of the moment, though the design allows discussions to stay relevant a little longer. It isn't conducive to longer term discussion as of the hierarchical replies.

Then there are forums which are are more persistent and longer lasting. Threads are where an area of interest is dicussed and as the posts aren't hierarchical, silos are less likely to developed. Replies also require a little more thought.

I'm glad Gaf is back online. We only miss the good things, when they are gone.
For a moment, I thought it was something worse, such as hackers and a targeted attack.
