I'm not a NFL football gamer, but Madden 2004? Was that NFL game that good?

No Terraria? I would had thought a solid game which sold a ton and is a unique kind of game would hit the list.

On any Top 50 or 100 list, I'd put Streets of Rage 2, Ultima Underworld (1 or 2) and Heroes of Might Magic 3 on them.

They mention '04 was the first game in the franchise that introduced Franchise/Owner mode.

Madden is always in the Top 10 in terms of sales every year, so I think RS started with the idea they have to include it somehow, then picked a safe nostalgic installment. I doubt '04 is better-playing than the recent ones.

Just realized FIFA isn't on the list. Very Nintendo and American-centric list, imo.

Sonic 2 is a really odd pick. Is it considered the pinnacle of the 2D games or something? I always thought that belonged to Sonic CD.

I actually don't think the list is that painful, but it always saddens me when I see Chrono Trigger so low :messenger_pensive:

You young fucks had no idea back in 1995...

It's an ok list. I think people forget that these lists are only 50 games. There is no nonsense like Gone Home on it, and they seemed to try to engage with the subject honestly and cover the entire history.

By the looks of skimming the list, only 1 game per franchise (I think).

So if you think Baldur's Gate 1 or 2 should make it, you get BG3 only. Same with Skyrim but no Morrowind, or Ms Pacman but no Pacman OG.

(My mistake, there are two Zeldas).

Considering that's a top 50 list and i disagree with more than half of the entries positions (some way too high or does not even deserve a spot, others way too low.) = shitty list

List is terrible. As much as BG3 was awesome, i'd argue the original BG1 and 2, games were more influential and original, spawning an entire sub-genre. No quake , quake3, unreal, battlefield for multiplayer...wtf.. you wouldn't have cod without them. Celeste...wtf is that shit game doing on this list. No Civilization games at all, no sim city, no old school pc rpgs like ultima and might and magic, no fucking Deus Ex , no Theif, no Splinter cell....

I could go on and on.

This list was written by a Zoomer wasn't it. No way someone who's been gaming for a long time wrote this.

I can't condone someone thinking Breath of the Wild is the greatest game ever made, but Tears of the Kingdom is not anywhere in the top 50, lol. Maybe if you were doing a "one per franchise" thing but they aren't.

These lists are so pointless. You can ask 1000 different gamers what their top 50 games are and you’d have 1000 different lists.

Does anybody really give a shit what some Rolling Stone columnist thinks?
True... also rolling stone is no longer a legit magazine. It went from being about rock and roll to pushing politics and propaganda. They were bought out in 2017 but they lost their soul long before that.

Fortnite at #45 should be a punishable offense by firing squad.

Objectively the greatest game released since (maybe) Minecraft in 2011.

That's like putting Michael Jordan as the 45th best player in NBA history.

No. Just no.
you got to be trolling, come on man. I know your schtick is "gaas man", but fortnite is like McDonalds. Popular but not due to any endearing qualities.

Seems pretty on par for a top video game list put together by a non-VG publication: It consists of tons of history's biggest titles with little to no consideration for fidelity. "[x] was one of the best video games [#]0 years ago, and it's still the best now."

Breath of the Wild and GTA V are not in the top 3 greatest games of all time.

There are some based inclusions in the list though, such as putting Cod 4 in the top 50. Definitely deserves mentioning as it set trends that are still going nearly 20 years later.

Can anyone actually justify why BOTW is the GOAT beyond just mindless Nintendo deep throating? There's barely any fucking content in the game.

Honest to god I played through it at it's best on a PC emulator and the whole game just blurs together in my mind, it's like I didn't play it yet I did, for 100 hours. It's not even in the top 10 open world games I've played.

McDonalds doesn't elicit pure joy from their customers. Fortnite crushed the competition because it provides a more valuable experience to its audience.

The GOAT. Put some respect on that name.
