Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
The more we learn about these cards, the worse it gets. It appears Nvidia is banking on frame generation and AI for the performance gains for the near future. The 5070 vs the 4090 was pure marketing bullshit that old Ken tried to sell you on with a smile on his face. If these cards succeed, I have little doubt this will be the roadmap for the future. Instead of big performance gains we just get new variations of frame gen and AI. Looking across the board there only seems to be about a 20% in raw performance upgrade comparing counterparts. The 4080 to 5080 is even less around 11% raw performance upgrade. I personally like Frame Gen and use it on almost all single player games but many cannot stand it. The only real upgrade seems to be the mult frame generation. For the 1% who have a 4090 there is a 33% upgrade to the 5090.

This guy breaks it down:

My 4070 Super is about to get a performance boost so I guess I'm fine for now.

Will probably build a new rig once the 60xx series drop.
I have the same card, not so sure about performance boost. This new dlss seems to be harder to run, and could only benefit the new cards fully.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

The new model should be faster and provide a better IQ on all cards from the 20xx onwards.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I still might. My 3080 is showing its age so if i can get 4090 performance out of the $999 5080, i will pull the trigger.

Still, really lame from Nvidia, but its not like i can go with AMD or Sony who also released an underwhelming machine.

Yep. I have some store vouchers and the 4070Ti isn't cutting it for path traced games. MFG looks quite decent and 20-30% improvement is good enough for me.

Even as a 3090 owner I'm not interested in the 5000 series, if anything I'm more tempted by further drops in price for the 4090 (seen a few recently around 1200-1400)

I was thinking of buying a 4080 Super when it came out, ended up passing, and I would buy one now if I could get it for a good price over a 5080, because these 5000 cards just seem very underwhelming. But of course Nvidia knows this, which is why they control supply of these boards so tightly.

Dude you should hope to get better perf than a 4090 for 1000 dollars and after 2 years from its release...

I would never buy a 5080 if it wasn't at least 15-20% more powerfull.

Its really simple:

- If you have a 4090, Stick to it. 30% performance increase max is not that great considering the price difference between you selling your card used and getting one of those cards ( assuming no connection or fire or heat issue/drama we got with the 4090 at first
- If you dont have a 4090 and looking to upgrade to a high end card, you have 1 of 2 options
A- Used 4090
B- go all out and buy a 5090

Under no circumstances you should buy a 5080 IF you have the chance to buy a used 4090. Unless you really want the multi frame gen thing and you don't like used products AND dont want to pay more than double the price to get a 5090.

If you have a 20series cards or earlier, heck maybe even the 30 series if transformer with frame gen works as well as claimed. I feel like these aren’t bad upgrade options. Cheaper than last gen a bit better performance for the 60/70/80. Excluding the 90series as those are in a different segment anyhow, and those buyers are mostly upgrading every gen anyhow. Upgrading from 4069/70/80 to a new 60/70/80 not so sure unless you are jumping up a level or two.

I will wait a couple of months to see how all.the new cards break down. Then I will probably just stick with my 6900xt and be able to play everything fine as long as I turn off the higher level RT stuff.

My 4090 is giving me way more performance than I know what to do with. Skipping 5090, I’ll upgrade with the 6090 or 7090 depending how long the console generation lasts. I like to upgrade when new videogame consoles arrive because that’s when game engines change.

upgrading from 3080 means im getting 95-100% more performance.

i skipped the 4080 because it was only 45-50% more performance for a $1000.

If AMD had a cheaper GPU, and a 100% better GPU than the 3080 then i wouldve bought that.

You're not going to get 4090 perf with the 5080.

Based on the specs, it will be 10% more powerful than the 4080. Which is pretty shit for a GPU being released 2 years later at almost the same price.

Looking forward to seeing the AW2 / Cyberpunk / Indiana Jones patches for Mega Geometry Ray Tracing on their entire range of cards

Seems like it will give a significant bump to performance to path tracing

4090 owner.

I was always a "day one" but my hype is dwindling.

I'll wait for benchmarks, even though we kind of know what to expect, and see how things go. ~25-30% can make a difference in some cases.

If we saw 3090 -> 4090 increase numbers, it would be a different story. Unfortunately, things have gone the way of AI and I'm not too interested in that tech. I currently use it only when necessary, even if it is good. I'm sure DLSS4 will be even better.

That said, it also makes sense to stay upgraded. The longer I keep my 4090, the more it will decrease in value, so I may upgrade at release or soon after.

I'm perfectly content with my 3080.

It's fucking wild that people say it's a 1080p or borderline 1440p card now. The new generation of PC gamers is prone to the most extreme hyperbole. Just fucking turn down a few settings and you don't need the flagship card of the latest gen to play new games.

"Back in my day" ultra settings actually meant something. Now there's barely any visible difference between medium and ultra except one requires you to buy a $2,000 GPU.

Nvidia misinformed people about the real performance, so we can definitely call RTX50 series a scam. On the other hand, if you want to upgrade your older GPUs, the RTX50 series still offers plenty of good reasons, although Nvidia should more VRAM, because if you want to use FG (especially x4) you need a little more than 12GB VRAM.

The performance difference between the 5090 and the RTX5080 is also huge. There's room for at least two more models :p. I think a lot of people would be interested in something like the 5080ti with 20% better performance and more VRAM.
