Rumor : Next batman game from rock steady could be PS5 Exclusive

A rumour linked to allegedly accurate leaker Lunatic Ignus has started spreading. It follows a report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier that developer Rocksteady is looking to return to the world of single-player Batman. Word on these lawless, unverified streets suggests that this next effort would be based on the incredibly awesome, decidedly darker Batman Beyond, adapting its narrative but not the animated series' distinctive art style.

We'd be on board with that proposition. However, curiously, the rumour suggests that the gritty IP could be a PS5 exclusive.

I think they mean Playstation exclusive right? There is no way they can bring out another game before the end of the console cycle. Didnt they just decide they wanna go back to single player batman games after the disaster that was suicice squad?

Yeah can’t wait for cross dresser mr freeze and gay joker in a Arkham game, all the decent staff that made the Arkham games have now left rocksteady, wb and rocksteady won’t learn from there mistakes just like Ubisoft , will bring it out with agendas and then blame people saying you asked for Arkham game , plus you’re looking at least 4 or more yrs for it to come

Rocksteady Batman Beyond game is something we all have been shouting for. Shame that a lot of the core team of Rocksteady has left. They should have started this project directly after Arkham Knight. Anyways this is going to fucking slap!!!

They perfectly copied Batman with Spiderman, so i guess a partnership could make sense. On the other hand they don't need it at this point.

It's probably a win-win for Sony and Warner Bros.

Rocksteady was probably on the verge of being shutdown, but enter Sony with a deal to partially fund the game in exchange for exclusivity. Keeps the studio alive and gives Sony a big exclusive game while Spider-Man probably gets sunset after Spider-Man 3.

Here's something I mentioned after Suicide Squad failed

There's a very good chance they get closed over this.

They're in an expensive place to run a business. They've basically been working on this game for 9 years. There's no coming back from that.
However, I would like to see Rocksteady not closed down and rather just see WB divest from them.

Unlikely, since they're cutting payroll and downsizing, but I'd love to see Sony rescue this studio and have them take over the development of either Spider-Man or the upcoming X-Men game and free up Insomniac to work on other things or at least collaborate together. I don't think Rocksteady leaves much to be desired when it comes to singleplayer games. Arkham Knight was really well received.

Sony is contractually obligated to make these games so I think it would be worthwhile. Worst case scenario, you can close them down. It's a 250 person studio, so despite being in London, they would at least be more productive than London Studio.

Exactly my thoughts. I doubt they'd even make it to the end of development without cash now. Only reason I believe it. I'm sure it'll be on PC as well eventually.

Win for Warner Bros probably. We'll see if it's really much of a win for Sony considering they really aren't going to have anyone to pay to keep this away from. If this cost much at all, they probably could have spent it better elsewhere or on their own games.

Let's say they dropped 100 million into the game.

If the game sells 10 million copies on PS5/PS6, let's say Sony pulls 25% of that (physical/digital split) the cash back on the game would be (assuming an average selling price of 55 dollars) would be 137 million dollars in addition to the PS5s and PS6s you're selling.

I think it's generally worth it. You can only make so many games yourself.

Sony usually could get these deals pretty cheaply in the era before everyone realized how much PC sells. So it's really just weighing the cost (has that cost gone up?) vs the amount of sales of the game that otherwise would not buy it on PS or buy a PS.

I'm sure the cost would be higher for SQEX, or Stella Blade or most exclusives they got if they tried to do it now. Anyway, that's their problem and WB probably took whatever they could get.

With the state of xbox, I'm not sure that foreclosure costs that much.

Well obviously, which is what most people argued about the anti-competitive elements of these deals just getting easier the more dominant the top system is. But keeping it off Switch and PC is another matter. SQEX is acting like they wouldn't take that deal again and they're the main publisher that did in the past.

I don't think the SQEX deal was good for Sony or SQEX, the problem is negotiating an exit after you've already paid probably for 4 games to be exclusive. It's really a dicey proposition to get out of for either.

Do you refund the money? Obviously you can't just refund all of it, first the funds probably aren't there to do it, and second there's already been some level of benefit. So you have to find an appropriate number.

Or you just wait until the contracts expire and take it as a lesson learned.

I'm not certain that FF16, Remake, and Rebirth launching day and date on PC and Xbox would have changed anything and they were never going to be on Switch.

I'll even be surprised to see how well these games run on Switch 2.

I'm calling BS.

This game, if real, would be in early development. It probably won't see release until 2030, so won't be a PS5 game.

"allegedly accurate leaker Lunatic Ignus"

Man, why even share this? Lmao. Push Square must be bored or something. This article is basically a big ol nothing burger. Also, it's WAY too early for something like this to even be spun.

It's not "what have you done?", but "what have you done lately?" and lately Rocksteady has shit the bed. You would have to be crazy to invest any money up front on an unproven product from a developer who has proven to have lost their touch. The remaining devs have almost nothing to do with the Arkham series outside of the same studio name being on the box. I have zero faith in this game, hopefully they prove me wrong about it.

You're actually insane, 25m installbase and a massive IP that (aside from Suicide Squad) has sold millions across multiple Xbox generations.
Sold for generations, but what about this specific one? I've never seen an Xbox version sell more than %10 for any big AAA title this gen.

Remember that WB is not only in dire straits, they've also seen the sales split for Hogwarts Legacy.. They know exactly what buying power remains for AAA singleplayer in the Xbox ecosystem.

The former studio leads were just as culpable for Suicide Squad, so don't think they're automatically gonna be better at whatever they do next.
