All they really said, though, was:

(^also applies to PS5)

It could just be the "Gen 9 Aware" patches that were common at the start of the generation.
I'm not saying they won't be fully native versions. Just that it's best to hold off on any high expectations until they reveal more specific details.
I am fairly certain it is, because for native Gen 9 you need to do authoring again, you need to use new APIs and on Playstation create completely different app altogether, in such small time I can't see them doing more than Gen 9 aware

would be nice to get pc version with controller support and mods support for sure. as those og games now have some problems to run on win 11 for some reason.
but for visuals couple mods and old gtx 1060 would look so much better then high end console version. no HD textures or similar enhancements.

Do they still hold up these days?

A very long time ago there were rumors that the #Stalker series might get ported the the Xbox 360 or PS3 and fans of the franchise collectively laughed at how impossible a home console port of the Stalker games would be....... Well, that fantasy has become a reality and it's time for me to swallow my pride and take a look at the Stalker Legends of the Zone Collection. We'll be covering its 4k visuals on PS5 and Series X, the 1080p PS4 port, how the games play, and whether or not this is a good entry point for someone who wants to try these amazing survival FPS games out.

Introduction to Stalker Console Ports

- The discussion begins with a reflection on the early 2000s when the potential for Stalker games to be ported to consoles was met with skepticism.
- The Stalker series was known for its complex engine that many believed would not translate well to console architecture.
- Despite the initial doubts, the eventual release of the Stalker games on consoles has sparked curiosity about their quality compared to the originals.

Overview of the Ports

- The Stalker Legends of the Zone collection was released in March 2024, encompassing three titles: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat.
- The focus of the review is primarily on the Xbox Series X version, chosen due to audio issues encountered on the PS5 version during initial testing.
- The review also clarifies that the audio delay issue on PS5 has since been patched, making the performance comparable across both consoles.

Visual and Performance Analysis

- The collection aims for 4K output and 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X, while PS4 and Xbox One target 1080p at 30fps.
- The visual fidelity of the console ports does not quite reach true 4K but instead utilizes upscaling from a lower resolution, likely around 1440p.
- Despite the upscale, the visual differences between the console ports and the original PC versions are minimal, especially from a standard viewing distance.
- AI upscaling has been applied to cutscenes, enhancing their appearance at the target resolution, though some artifacts are present.
- Frame rate performance is generally stable, with occasional drops below 60fps that are not usually noticeable during gameplay.

Gameplay Mechanics and Control Adaptations

- The transition from PC to console involves adapting a complex control scheme to a more limited controller layout, which is executed surprisingly well.
- Key functions are mapped to the controller, allowing for quick access to essential gameplay mechanics such as inventory management and health items.
- Auto-aim features are included to assist players who struggle with precision aiming, although effectiveness may vary based on individual play style.
- Players can customize their control settings to improve aiming sensitivity, particularly when using scopes, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
- While the controls may feel clunky compared to the original PC experience, they offer a smooth transition for new players or those unfamiliar with the series.

Mod Support and Overall Experience

- The collection includes mod support, allowing players to enhance their gameplay experience with user-created content, a rarity in console gaming.
- The original Stalker games are known for their stability issues, but the ports provide a more reliable experience with various performance enhancements.
- New players are encouraged to start with Shadow of Chernobyl to appreciate the evolution of the series, while veterans may find the improvements in Clear Sky to be significant.
- The bundle pricing offers value, making it an attractive option for newcomers to the series.
- Overall, the Legends of the Zone collection serves as an excellent entry point for both new and returning players, maintaining the essence of the original games while improving performance and stability.

Conclusion and Recommendation

- The review concludes with a strong recommendation for players to experience the Stalker series, particularly through the console ports.
- Despite initial skepticism, the ports have proven to be high-quality adaptations that retain the core gameplay elements and atmosphere of the originals.
- The improvements in performance and accessibility make these ports a worthwhile investment for fans of the genre.
