SD Card and USB C Cord Suggestions for Switch

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Question. Does the Switch not get enough juice to charge while playing in handheld mode?

I'm using the charging cable (USB C?) that comes with the Pro Controller, on the Switch unit in handheld mode, plugged into a wall socket.

I see the lightning bolt indicating it's getting juice, but as I'm playing, it's going down and actually not charging up.

Any solutions? Is it the cable?

For anyone looking for a solid wall plug that isn't overly expensive and has a generous amount of ports, this Anker 5 Port is working out real well for me. I tested both USB-C to USB-C(5v/3a) and USB-A to USB-C(5v/2.4a), and both methods charge the Switch(in portable mode) faster than it drains. Albeit with the caveat that the USB-A to USB-C connection charges at a slower rate, of course.

I also paired it with this right angle cable for comfort sake.

Just tested this with my 61W Apple MacBook Pro (I have the 13" touchbar model) charger and it does indeed charge the Switch without issue.

"Official" USB-C cables come with the Joy-Con Charging Grip ($30) and the Pro Controller ($70) - which is a nice bonus if you already wanted one of those...gets you a legit cable, too.

I think it is the cable. From what I read in a review from a respected German website (https://www.golem.de/news/nintendo-switch-im-test-klack-und-los-egal-wie-und-wo-1703-126463-6.html) the USB-A to USB-C cable that comes with the Pro Controller only supports 0.5A when charging.

Yeah, I'll probably go that route then. I planned on getting Pro controller eventually but I guess I'll look to get one sooner rather than later.

What charger are you using?

I wish we had a list where different chargers were listed and if they could charge the Switch during use. And if so, how long they were able to keep the Switch powered on using up both the charger and Switch's battery.

So it seems like some have had decent luck charging the Switch in portable mode without drain in use, using 5V/2.4A chargers? The iPad 12W USB charger should work fine then right? Probably going to save some money and use that if I can.

Basically.

Considering that the Switch is region free and some games in other regions actually have English options available, buying another micro sd card to add storage to the Switch is must have at this point. Even if you intend to purchase physical over digital.

They probably used a cheap 5V 1A USB charger.

The cable can handle 3A just fine since it has the correct resistor.

Are there any benchmarks for game loading time on different SD cards? Even if it's like 10%, I'd rather pay more now and get the fastest.

I just want a cheap, small AC adapter to attach to the charge cable that came with the joycon rechargeable controller. Any suggestions? It's ridiculous that this is so unclear.

Also, would we be able to charge the Switch on flights that only offer USB ports for power outlets? Or will they. It provide enough power?

I am looking for a wall charger that will do not only the relatively more simple task of acting as a USB charging port for a Switch but ALSO for a Sony DualShock4 (and preferably DualShock3).

Anyone have experience using a USB wall charger that will charge these devices successfully? It seems finding one for the Switch that works is more difficult than for the Sony controllers.

I'd guess anything should work for the controllers, unless you meant to charge the system with it, in which case it sounds like the usual 5V/2-2.4A (or 10-12W) chargers should work. (Note that if something says way bigger numbers it's probably multiple ports, like "50W" is probably just five 5V/2A ports.)

As for airplanes, no clue. It'll depend entirely on what they're outputting. 2-2.4A isn't new or a big deal anymore...but most stuff is fine with 1A or less even, so I could see airlines cheaping out on that. It might vary by plane or airline or whatever.

I really don't have any experience with the Samsung cards but I use Sandisk cards all the time and they have been nothing but flawless for me. I am using the 200gb in my Switch now and other than the fact that I get to use 183 gb of that, it has been perfectly fine.

Yeah strange how the Sandisk card is more expensive than the Samsung one..I figured Samsung would cost more..so you have the Sandisk card(Newest version) but the 200GB..how is the write speed/read speed..are you noticing things load quicker on the card than the internal drive

The funny thing is I have not downloading anything to it yet. Everything I have so far has gone to the internal memory. I was not given a choice to download to it when getting stuff from the eshop.

The switch AC adapter provides 1.5A for 5V, so that should be the minimum.

For the joycons, who knows. A decent phone charger can do it. The higher the amperage, the faster it can charge.

Usually the USB ports on planes are 500mA, so no. Bring an AC adapter or a battery pack.

If they provide 1.5A+, then yeah. But most plane offer AC outlets instead of USB ports o_O

You mean when you download something from the eshop it goes automatically to internal memory? There is no option to move it to external?

Main issue is the Sony controllers require a data capable port. Many (most?) chargers are power only. Hard to tell from looking if it will work.

So when I started downloading all the stuff prior to putting the SD card in, it downloaded directly to the internal memory.

After putting the card in, it downloads and installs to the SD card instead. At this point, had no problems, no lag, no speed issues with it. Worked just fine.

I now have to archive and download everything I did before putting the card in to get all that onto the SD card.

So far, the SD card has been fantastic.

TIP: If you plan on buying an SD card and want all your downloads/installs to go to it before the internal memory, get the card in the Switch before downloading/installing anything. It will automatically go to the SD card first.

So I have a USB power supply thats input is 100/240 VAC, 0.25 A, 50/60 Hz and the output is 5V 1A. would this work to charge my switch and be fine? I am using the USB C cable from my pro controller with it.

Just to note, I've been in contact with Anker support about that very device (I have one) since it was outputting too much power to my MacBook Pro (45W, when it should be giving a max of 30W). They have requested that I send it back to them for testing. Something might be wrong with the power delivery on the USB port. Probably doesn't affect the Switch since it's sticking to 5V but just wanted to throw that out there that Anker themselves has requested that I return it

I'm kind of curious if my USB-C charger for my Nokia phone will be safe to use. It's actually not a USB cable plugged into a wall charger, but a more traditional (pre-smartphone) AC adapter.

The input voltage is the same as the Switch, but the output is higher. So my feeling is I shouldn't use it, but I'd love to be wrong.

That Anker charger does not have power delivery and it tops out at 40W. You're thinking of a different wall plug.

I've used the one that came with my 950. Whether or not its better than the one included with the Switch, I don't know, but it seems to work.
