Should "killing simulators" be forbidden?

Guys,
I was randomly looking at the COD graphics thread. Given I never play these kind of FPSs, I was shocked to see how realistic it looked.
To be honest, I cannot imagine having a kid and being ok with them playing this kind of game non stop.

Morally, I don't think it is right that the entertainment industry gives a free pass to films and video games which depict so much violence and killing other people (even in the context of war, etc.) while at the same time you cannot even show a female nipple in a video game or on instagram.

One could argue it is useful "propaganda" as young men need to be mentally stimulated in case we have to go to war as killing is not a natural act, while sex is a natural act and you don't need to be stimulated by entertainment in order to want to do it.
Or that there is a slipperier slope from sex on screen to rapes than from killing on screen to murders.
But to be honest, I don't really buy these reasons and they are not moral to me.

Is it just the case of the US being built historically on violence and murders and having this violence in its DNA and having imposed these values to the rest of the world through mass entertainment in the last decades? But at the same time, I would think every country has, by definition, been built on sex as well? Giving birth is the most beautiful thing someone can do while killing is the contrary.

What do you think?
Should "sex simulators" be allowed (as killing simulators are)?
Should video games focused on guns, killing, etc. be outlawed or much more restricted to minors?

To add a bit:
I have always been a bit perplexed by the double standard between violence and sex in video games. Violence is morally bad while totally ok in VGs (?). Sex is morally neutral at worst while totally not ok in VG.

In a typical American family, you will find teens playing FPSs and killing Russians or Iraqis all day and the parents will not be bothered by it (just "the boys playing their xbox") while I would imagine that if the main protagonist was engaging in realistic sex on the 60' TV, even if it is in a normal and healthy way, the parents would do more than bat an eyelid lol.

Maybe it is because sex concerns everyone while American parents dont mind about Russians soldiers?

no.

Fuck that got to do with me? lol

I don't think its any industries job to parent anyone's kid. Thats like saying how harmful pornography is as if their job was to be safe for PTA meetings or something lol

There has been plenty of research done into the matter. There is no conclusive proof that violent video games lead to higher incidents of violence.

As for sex games, these exist as well. You can buy quite a number of them on Steam. It is just console storefronts that restrict these types of games.
Well I don't know if I would go that far.

I think individuals who are easily influenced or lean towards violent tendencies will 100% get something from video games that allows them to be even more violent than they already are. I believe this type of stimulation for someone who's already violent can be very very dangerous, That being said it is not the video games job or any piece of media's job to censor itself based on individuals who might use it to influence their future crimes.

So I believe any of those works truly can lead to incidents of violence, But ultimately I believe that violence is inevitable if the person is predisposed to this they're simply less creative without that stimuli.

Which basically means we had serial killers before the invention of video games, If we might have more creative ones now lol

mrmustard mrmustard lol damn that was a good ass series

I totally get your point and indeed it is something to be taken care off, on the other hand it’s up to the parent to take care of their kids and not let them play games such as this.

Back in the 90s my parents didn’t give a shit of what I was playing with some little exceptions. I was killing zombies, slaying vampires Etc. I grew up normally and I consider myself a normal, sane person. I think there are other factors that can make a kid violent etc. and it has to do with how it’s raised in the house.

My folks let me play shit like Mortal Kombat, Carmageddon, Resident Evil etc etc since I was at least 6 or 7 and have been playing them since then.
I have no inclination to repeat the shit I've seen in video games or TV. Why? Because I'm not mentally ill.
If someone, kid or otherwise, is going to repeat something violent they've seen, they were going to do it anyway.

Let your kids play this stuff, it wont hurt them unless they're already busted, in which case games are the least of your problems. It probably actually helps them become more adjusted in the long run. Imagine waiting til you were actually 18 to watch an 18 movie or have a drink.

no. killing is fun and after years of gaming you outgrow it as the main attraction. If the game is just about pointing headshots with a mouse, it's probably not very interesting

I don't even understand your post, just rambling nonsense. Killing is actually natural, but obviously without context it's an unpleasant thing to think about. I would say the thousands of videos of REAL world violence available online on YouTube, Twitter, telegram, etc, is more damaging to the young mind than a shooter game for example.

We're talking about war killings, people in pieces, executions, etc, the abundance of those does more to desensitise the mind than COD ever would. This is why seeing those type of things for the first time feels incredibly disturbing, even if you've played violent games for years.

Is it just the case of the US being built historically on violence and murders and having this violence in its DNA and having imposed these values to the rest of the world through mass entertainment in the last decades?
Yes, the world only discovered violence over the past 200 years. Thanks America.

The key thing here is its NOT REAL, if you can't differentiate between what's reality and what isn't then a bit of violence in a video game is the least of your worries.

We should just ban everything that people find offensive. Don't like the animation in that cartoon? Ban it. Think that something is sexually thematic? Ban it. Does it maybe suggest something that someone somewhere doesn't like? BAN.

Don't be a fuckin' fascist.

This is just because the US is a puritan, God fearing nation, so sex is a no-no because it is sinful, even though it's the most natural thing people can do, and even must do. 🤷

sex simulatora are already allowed, just a really niche market

and it's so because even though violence are sex are basic human instincts, shooters effectively convey the experience, while porn games are just interactive porn videos

War and weapons is one of the main business for the USA finantial elite. Sex isn't, in fact they want to reduce population because in the past they needed it for factories, but in the future with robots and AI they won't need most of it. So their propaganda arms funding entertainment and mass media favor war and weapons over sex.

Regarding kids, FPS shouldn't be a problem if they are educated properly saying that the videogames is fiction, than to kill people is bad and that people from rival countries aren't bad people -as the propaganda from the news seem to show- because their military or finantial powers compete against them (in all countries there's bad people but most of it is good people).

It shouldn't be a problem specially if they wouldn't have easy access to guns and instead would have easy access to get help when experiencing important mental, social, finantial or family issues.

OP dude sounds like one of those religion extremist. Lets ban porn, movies with violence, all the shooting games while we are at it. Wait, let's ban boxing, muay Thai and MMA because that encourage bullying.

You make several mistakes in your take.
For once, violent games have age ratings. So if a kid ends up playing a violent game, it's only the parents to blame. Not the companies that make games.
Consoles even have parent controls to limit what kids can play there. So use it.
The same thing for sex games.

There has been no verified scientific study to link violence with videogames, that is just BS from TV's and newspapers to sell you on tabloid news.
It could be argued that 30 years ago, there wasn't enough data to draw a conclusion, but after so much time, and with so many people playing videogames, that issue is settled in 2023.
There are millions of people around the world, who play violent videogames, that are law abiding citizens.

Regarding sex, I guess your arguments stem from the ultra-religious part of the USA population.
Maybe it's time to start ignoring religious extremists, and live your life.
