Ray reconstruction helps a lot with shadow noise and reflection quality. I highly recommend everyone with an nVidia card follow the guide on PCGW that shows how to turn it on.

True but they forget mentioning that you need to grab the .dll file and put it in the same folder as the other dlss file.

Latest version on top

The engine.ini changes are not working if you don't paste the file in.

Confirmed with Special-K now showing reconstruction RT enabled green checked as before it showed a red X without the dll file.

Beware of higher VRAM usage.

Edit* they do mention it..please ignore loll

Great but you need DLSS.
I actually turned it off to try dynamic resolution scaling with a 60FPS target and it seemed pretty good too. Bottom line is there are tons of options to find the performance level you desire

Ray reconstruction + shadows on low looks better than without with shadows on high:

Also, playing without ray tracing on looks like suffering in darkness:

Game has crashed to desktop 3 times for me.

How is the PC version? Are there shader stutters? Traversal stutters?
I get stutters pretty much everywhere. 4070 super and 5800x3d, lowering in game settings to raise the fps doesn't help. And I've tried all the fixes outside of the game that I can find.

The game has 8 endings!? Holy fuck I didn’t know that.

Not gonna spoil any of them for myself. This can be a yearly romp for me 8 years in a row to see new endings.

Started playing Saturday night at 9 PM, last night I made it to the hospital entrance and saved and went to be bed.

This is some good shit. After re-playing the original over and over so many times, it's a weird but cool feeling to be playing SH2 again and not know exactly what to do.

There are 6 endings from the original for the trophy + two new ones, still undiscovered via powerpyx. Looks like it's possible to do 6 of them in 2 playthroughs with the right setup as you can manipulate key conditions by the end of last chapter. I played 100% blind, kissed every wall and still missed 6 photos and 3 memos... NG+ here we go!

WTF have you been playing nonstop since yesterday? Get some sleep my man!

Yeah I've gone with this medium shadows and there's negligable difference in IQ. Shaders on medium too and barely noticable but lot of FPS gained if having issues with performance. Especially in watery areas with RT enabled. Low shadows is okay as well if you can't run it well. Shaders too.

There's a few tweaks you can do like remove Chromatic aberration, Vignette and VRS for better a image.

Just reached the Hospital. This game is just *chefs kiss*

Get it? It uses machine learning…my joke is like an onion…it has many layers…

Anyway where’s the reconstruction setup guide??

From that reddit thread:

To enable Ray reconstruction add the following to your Engine.ini:

[SystemSettings]
r.NGX.DLSS.denoisermode=1
r.Lumen.Reflections.BilateralFilter=0
r.Lumen.Reflections.ScreenSpaceReconstruction=0
r.lumen.Reflections.Temporal=0
r.Shadow.Denoiser=0
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0

The last line disables chromatic aberration which nobody likes anyway...

Edit* As u/TessellatedGuy says in a comment below, also make sure that the latest nvngx_dlssd.dll file (Ray Reconstruction) is located in: ..\Steam\steamapps\common\SILENT HILL 2\SHProto\Plugins\DLSS\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64

I am loving it so far (up to the Apartments). Funny thing is, for some reason, the Silent Hill series of games creeps me out like nothing else can! I'm not sure if it's the story, the psychological aspects of the story, the music or what it is but these games get to me on a VERY deep level that no other form of media can (maybe David Lynch films/Twin Peaks tv show can do the same).

So for me, I'm playing this in short bursts as I just cannot play in this world for too long! The same happened when I played the original on PS1 all those years ago and the sequels on the PS2/Xbox! But I do love it and will be getting the PC version as well to support this game. I want a remake of the original and part 3 as well.

Ray reconstruction changed my life. It's so clean now! Everyone needs to do this on PC.

Hi all - did anyone who preordered from CDKeys get sent the wrong region?

For context -- I preordered the standard edition way back in June (I'm in the US) and now on my order page it lists the key as EU/UK. I haven't revealed the key, but am almost positive the key said Worldwide when I ordered it (I've bought from them many times and am very careful about this).

Digging around on reddit/steam forums it seems some other people may have had the same thing happen. I reached out to them asking for a refund but haven't heard back.

I am at the hotel on the lake. 12 hours in. First time with SH2, and the franchise in general. I’m gone the next 3 days for work.

So here’s my thoughts:

This game is SO good it makes me wish I had gone into game development or should attempt my own indie horror title. I can’t explain it but it’s like it’s licking my brain and just making my head ooze with joy.

There is so much to unpack here.

The pacing isn’t just well done it’s pitch perfect. The well done switch ups from dark sinister areas, to lighter tones to relax the player. To making each area crumble bit by bit as you advance. No game masters this constant shake up and engagement this well.

Advancement through the game manages to always keep the pitch. Just when you think you have too much ammo the boss shows up, and you dump most of your ammo. Leaving the next area to be once again resource management and spooky. I will say you get a lot of heals though but it’s also a resource you can balance with ammo so you’re never short on any.

Then we’ve got the obvious stand outs. Visuals and audio. Like holy shit they got every bit of juice out of the eye candy for this title. But the audio? First game to finally dethrone dead space for best audio usage in a video game, especially a horror game. This is a triumph.

Lastly, the story and characters. It’s a trip, and every character is a trip. The deeper you go the more it clicks and the more it becomes deranged.

This game is perfect for a HBO max aeries. 12-20 episodes. It would scoop up awards left and right.

Fucking incredible game and one of the best this medium has to offer.

Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION 0x00007ff60b820c15

I'll copy the log if it crashes again.

From the unreal engine developer site:

This error message suggests that there is a problem with the graphics driver or the GPU. The error “EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x000001c65bc205d0” usually indicates that Unreal Engine is trying to access memory that it is not allowed to access. It could be caused by a problem with the GPU driver or the GPU itself.

Try these steps to fix this issue:

  • Make sure that you have the latest GPU drivers installed for your graphics card. You can download the latest drivers from the website of the GPU manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, etc.).
  • Try disabling any third-party software that may be interfering with the GPU, such as overclocking software or other system monitoring tools.
  • Disable any custom graphics settings in your game or in the Unreal Engine editor, such as custom resolution or anti-aliasing settings.
  • Check for any other software that may be conflicting with Unreal Engine, such as other game engines or graphics-intensive software.
  • Try running the game or the editor on a different machine to see if the problem is specific to your current setup.
It’s also worth noting that this error could be caused by a hardware problem with the GPU, such as overheating or a malfunctioning component. In this case, it may be necessary to replace the GPU.

Try drivers first.

If you want the most stable Nvidia drivers that have released this year then try the following:

  • Drivers 512.95, 516.94, 517.48, 522.25, 526.86, 528.49, 532.34, 537.58, 551.86, 552.22 are generally considered stable/consistent by the community. Other driver versions worth trying despite system specific compatibility issues include 536.99, 546.17(W10), 551.23(W10), 552.44(not laptops)

I'll double check what drivers I'm running when I'm back at my computer but they are definitely one of the older ones.

Game has already invaded my dreams, starting with last night. Woke up uneasy with it grey and pouring rain outside. Great way to start the morning :messenger_expressionless:
Man, I had some wild nightmares too last night and woke up with things looking all distorted and spectre-like. I love it though, been going into overdrive with horror for Halloween. My effort is paying off.

The game really is a bit emotionally and psychologically draining in the best/worst way possible. I was sitting on the edge of my couch the entire time playing yesterday not once sitting back just to relax for a bit. it didn't even occur to me. It's got its claws into me so bad.

I'll be up late again tonight I'm sure of it and if my dreams are fucked again I might have to consider playing in smaller bursts.

Who am I kidding

Fuck short bursts, the game is a perfectly paced masterpiece

You need to solve the coin puzzle in the lobby area. It's in the room behind the front desk where the save spot is.

Solve the puzzle and
you get the room 201 key. the three coins are all you need to complete it. just follow the riddle above the machine.

With shadps4 progressing the way it is I don't need anything from Sony/fromsoft on bloodborne. Let them make something new.

I hope this sells well. Unfortunately, Silent Hill has never been as popular as Resident Evil. But maybe selling 1 million copies in the first month is achievable.

Nice. I haven't dove in yet, actually playing through AITD again but I'll get SH2 before the month is over and binge it for the Halloween season. Though I did screenshare Saturday night w/ my buddy who preordered. Game looks gorgeous. Trying to pace myself, got a lot of games and movies I want to get to this month and so far I'm right on schedule.

It's very unclear that you only need 3 coins for the machine puzzle. You don't need to find 2 more.
