So I'm looking through the requirements for the different endings. I did literally everything for In Water guessing except for picking the wrong stupid apple and going through the wrong door. So fkn lame if that's what got me Maria.

I did check on her once at the hospital and went back to her room in the labyrinth though. I had it in the back of my mind and kind of knew. Stupid of me. I also spent a lot of time with her out in Silent Hill but that was just exploring and trying to see all the game has to offer. I guess it was my fault. Maria was one of the hardest endings to get in the OG so I didn't think I'd pop it first run.

I wonder if I'll get In water if I reload and do the right egg/apple.
Man some of the requirement for water ending I dont remember doing most of them.

On my first playthrough I got leave, so I decided to test something. So I just reloaded my last manual save and made sure I was at low health after the twin fight (cross on screen), just waited in that room for 10 minutes while I did other stuff around the house and occasionally picked up the controller to look at the knife. Then just stood in the hallway until Mary finished talking, and didn't heal until I was about to trigger final boss fight. Got it.

I reloaded and redid the last two boss fights. This worked like a charm.

Its kind of cool. The cutscene before the final boss fight with Mary/Maria is different walking in. She was in bed for the Maria ending, but standing at the window for In Water. The dialogue completely changes too. Even the end credits music changes. The Maria ending breaks into an insane guitar rock riff lmao. The In Water ending leads into the new GOAT rendition of Promise. In Water is so clearly better lmao

I will say though, Mary's final letter did not hit half as hard as the original. Still, glad to hear it tonight before I head to sleep. Thanks man. At least I don't have to do a playthrough for the Maria ending ever again. Leave here I come.

Fuck Maria.

P.S. Got "In Water" ending first try and an achievement "Finish the game in under 10 hrs", which is a bug cuz Steam counter shows 39 hrs - yeah, I didn't rush things at all and there's no Photo Mode in game so you can't blame me for that too.

Mary literally wanted for James to move on with his life. In Water actually the worst ending in the game cuz James comits suicide cuz of what he's done and he can't read Mary's latter cuz he can't even see it.

There is no forgiving that, there no way to have normal life after doing something like that.

Well of course, like, I couldn't live with myself probably as well after doing something like that but.... at least James realized what he's done so that means there's still something good in him left and the worst punishment for him would've been live a life knowing what he's done and In Water he chose the easy way out. I'm not saying that everyone who did the same should have a happy life, no, but also not everyone truly regrets the things they have done too.

Anyway, playing this game is such a relief knowing and remembering that in this genre, there can be a better story than some braindead BS RE has for example and it makes you think, ask questions etc. and that's the undying beauty of the SH series, well, at least until SH4 came out, which is not a bad game but.... well, you probably know.

I like RE games but you are not playing that game for its story most of the time it’s nonsense but campy fun…..Silent Hill in other hand is entirely different league with it comes its story telling.

That’s why SH2R is my favorite horror game ever now. It had a great plot that lives rent free in your head.

I love RE games but they’ve never come even close to this kind of a story.

He did move on. Into the lake. Really though, it just seems thematically appropriate. Mary is in the back seat and now they get to be together forever. Moving on is too neat for this game IMO.

Always wondered what disease she had and what it was doing to her. I can only think Cancer, but maybe there is something else going on here with it either fictional or real? Either way, man that really sucks.

Finally finished my time with the game after seeing all 8 endings and getting a platinum. It's still an 8/10 game in my opinion and probably the second best horror remake I've played after RE2, much much better than I expected.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the
Rebirth
ending... you had to do some pretty unique steps to fulfill its requirements and for all of that it was cut short way too soon. I didn't get that feeling with other endings, they felt more complete while still leaving plenty of room for your own imagination.

I feel that ending
should have let you row to that mysterious island and enter the church of rebirth on your own to perform the ritual
would have given the game some extra oomph and incentive

The further i get (in the Labyrinth now), the more i think there are too many combat encounters.....thankfully even on standard level, ammo and health is a plenty. But still, i think they could've still accomplished everything so far with less combat encounters.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
How puzzle heavy is this game? And when you say you can dumb them down, how dumbed down are we talking? I basically want them turned off.

Puzzle heavy? Hmm.....i don't think its puzzle heavy at all and im on standard difficulty. Supposedly if you choose easy mode they remove some of the steps involved to solve the trickier ones. I don't think there's an option to turn them off completely.

Question for PC players. How is the performance now? I've heard the game suffered from terrible stutter and/or FPS at launch. How bad is right now?

The more I sit with it, the more I feel extremely disappointed with
the final letter read. The original read was IMO the best voice acting I've ever heard in a game. It felt so raw and emotional, which is wild when you consider the VA was an amateur. I genuinely hope they patch in a better read some day. They didn't stick it.

Agreed. The labyrinth especially, overdid it.

Thankfully the next area chills tf out and IMO has the best pacing of any area in the game. It's smooth sailing from then on.

More than the RE games but not really overdoing it IMO. I actually wish they had a few more complicated ones.

Set the puzzles to easy and they should be speed bumps at best.

That and radio you hear on elevator, in the original game that voice weirdly cheerful while saying some fucked up things as if it was a game show which added to the experience but new one is just generic horror voice

Other than that they did a great job with the remake.

Finally out of the Labyrinth....

That shit with Eddie was stupid as hell. He suddenly hates James and wants to kill him and that boss fight with him was cheap as fuck too
Eh, the stuff with Eddie has been building up.

It wasn't sudden. The town has been tearing him down with his insecurities so he feels like everyone is out to get him. The town has also been sending him fake people tormenting him that he's been killing since the body you find in that apartment he was throwing up in (that was his first murder, and that's why he was throwing up), so he's been trigger happy and lying about it the entire time. You find a body or multiple with their brains blown out every time you come across Eddie except for the Laura scenes, and she just tears him down too. You also pick up on the slight shift in tone in his interactions with James with each cutscene he shows up in. You definitely should have felt the rift in the movie theater cutscene. James also picks up that he's murdering people and judges him for it (as he should) straight to his face as Eddie is pointing a gun at him (stupid as fuck, James lmao).

"Eddie, you can't just kill people just because of the way they look at you!" and Eddie was considering killing him that scene just for that.

Also, that was my favorite boss fight in the game lol. I loved playing cat and mouse in the dark. He got one shot on me the entire fight on hard, and it was so fucking tense. Why was it cheap for you?

YEAH that was another big one I forgot about.
The trivia trap in general was better in the original. Memorizing it for later was lame. It should have happened in the moment while you were trapped in the elevator or something. That or straight up copy the room in the original.

In my opinion the Remake absolutely improved Eddie both in his story and actual boss fight against him.

Reading all you wrote out i guess i shouldve seen it coming lol To me he seemed like a disturbed individual but never really seemed like he didnt trust james or have ill will towards him. I read him wrong i guess lol

As far as the battle itself, several times i shot him that seemed like sure hits but it magically missed lol, making me have to repeat it a couple times. Then you have to repeat all phases if you die, i didnt care for that.

Just got to the Labrinth,I'm playing on hard difficulty.i agree with some of you with too much enemy encounters.

I only struggled on the otherworld Hospital boss(took like 10 tries) the rest of the game has been enjoyable and not too difficult.(the puzzles are fun,I'm enjoying working them out)

I'm hearing labyrinth is FULL of enemies so we'll see how it goes.

Finished it last night, got the Leave ending which was a suprise.i thought I would have got in water ending.

I enjoyed it but (don't kill me guys) I still preffered the original.
The original soundtrack is better,it just hits my ears more than the remake.
I still love fixed camera angles for survival horror even though its not a thing now.3rd person over the shoulder is OK but just not for me when it comes to silent hill

Standout parts were
1- eddie story line and boss fight was awesome
2-angela -the new actor was really good and the cutscenes were impactful.
3-Hospital was my favourite area, the puzzles were really good too.

It's a solid 8.5 for me

Got 'Leave' as my ending. I wasn't particularly going for any ending but felt like I would get 'Maria'. Throughout the first playthrough I was trying to see as much content and interactions as possible so I spent a lot of time exploring with Maria, checking on her in the hospital and checking on her at the Labyrinth.

I liked pretty much the whole thing with 2 exceptions. Laura's facial animations, or lack thereof, detracted from her character and the scene after watching the tape was so much less impactful which is unfortunate considering the rest was done well. The other was the "you made me happy" read. Not the VA's fault as it had to be a conscious decision by the voice director and everything else she had done up to that point was good. The final line just didn't hit.

I didn’t know this originally but you can shorten that fight by
shooting flesh lip’s hand each time he hangs. You don’t have to empty all your ammo. Plus I read where melee takes bosses down fast
unless you already knew that.
