Announced during Sony's CES 2025 press conference, the Helldivers 2 movie is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment. No other details were offered.

Helldivers 2, from developer Arrowhead, is of course heavily inspired by cult classic sci-fi movie Starship Troopers. It sees soldiers of the future struggle to defend a fascist Super Earth regime against alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids all the while preaching "Managed Democracy."

Helldivers 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time with an incredible 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks. It's currently enjoying a resurgence after the release of the long-awaited Illuminate update, which adds a third faction for players to fight against.

It is the worst idea. Movie holds up perfectly and it's themes are more relevant than ever. It's almost a perfect movie. Paul Verhoeven doesnt miss when he has full control over a movie. He left Hollywood for a reason. Movies like this are the reason. Greed is written all over it.

A game with barebones lore, getting a writer now to actually make it palatable for wider audience, will come up with some random shit that doesnt connect with gamers nor random folks. Movies like Max Payne, Uncharted, Borderlands that have decades of cult following flopped. What is helldivers...an online shooter with 3% story? Id say this is SONY just doing some money laundering because they have way deeper franchises that could translate into a movie. Might as well just do a Concord movie, it would have the same treatment.
