Just give it to an indie studio like Sony is doing with some of their IPs and see what happens. Throw them money to support it, release it as a digital $15 game and see how it goes. They need to start doing this a bit more with their older IPs. If they don't have plans of using them with their main studios, farm it out to some indie studio willing to work on it.
When has Sony given one of their IP to an indie studio? Honest question.
Or to Ruffian. They were working on a Streets of Rage prototype, but they didn't get the funding they needed iirc.Actually, this!
Give it to the studio who made Double Dragon Neon and make a new instalment akin to the old games.
Killer Instinct Gold came out in 1996.Tradewest used to own the Battletoads IP back in the day. No idea who owns it now, but I doubt it was Rare, since why would they own an IP that they just sat on for decades?

Does Sanzaru count as an indie studio?
Shadows of the Beast for PS4 off the top of my head
Also consider that this background was NEVER showed in the promotional materials for Gamestop.
This was what they showed:

To me, it's the indication of something...
Composed by Mick Gordon.Any new Battletoads game needs to have an all-metal soundtrack.
I insist.

@XboxP3: @Ryuu179961 Yes, we are currently working externally with some older IP we own.
Shadow of the Beast is a sony IP?
The less MS messes with these ips the better....
I second this.
How successful was Dragon's Crown for Sony? If that worked a new Battletoads would be a great answer to it from Microsoft.

We do know that MS is working on older IPs with external studios

That's not the really the same situation.Banjo costume in Minecraft didn't mean a new Banjo Kazooie game was being made, so nope.

Tradewest licensed the ip from Rare, hence Microsoft owns it now. Phil Spencer even said it on twitter.Tradewest used to own the Battletoads IP back in the day. No idea who owns it now, but I doubt it was Rare, since why would they own an IP that they just sat on for decades?

1. Banjo was part of a pack with skins from several different Rare IPs.
2. There was already a Banjo game for the 360 (three if you count the XBLA ports)
3. They didn't acknowledge their classic IPs in Kinect Sports 1 or 2 (iirc)
I'm not saying that the Battletoads reference means "BATTLETOADS RETURNS OMG". Just that it's a bit different compared to the skin packs for Minecraft.
(It's most likely just a reference to the Gamestop meme, though.)
Banjo and Kazooie used the Magic Wrench as a special item in Sonic Racing. It was clearly a nod to Nuts & Bolts.Wasn't Banjo the special character in one of the Sega Racing games? Maybe that's comparable.
