There've been worse salmon weapon rotations. What this set really did is confirm to me just how badly the default Blaster is the worst weapon in its class. So slow, and not really offering any real benefit to offset that.

Clash forever I guess.

Didn't know that weapons sets are ramdom for each salmon rush. Though it was weird (but real fun anyway) when I was playing yesterday.

What prizes do you get exactly when playing this mode? I think there's a jacket at xxx points that I'm close to get, but I don't recognize those other prizes.

So I'm new to the Switch and Splatoon. I have a question.

Is the pro controller better for this game or can I just stick with the Joycon?

I'm primarily a PC gamer so the only gamepad I'm familiar with is the Xbox controller. Would the pro controller be easier for me to get used to?

There's the "gear of the month" (the jacket) and the gacha balls, which can give you money, food tickets or gear from the previous months. I think the balls can give you ability chunks too, but not sure.

Can't go wrong with the Pro imo.
I find the Joycon Grip pretty ok for Splatoon 2 (with motion controls, so right analog is used only for horizontal camera movement) - I mostly play with the Pro, and it's the most confortable solution for me, but when travelling I take the grip with me and play just as fine in tabletop mode. Split joycons work for some too, but I don't like it.

I don't think they're random, but they indeed change each time.

As for the rewards, balls can contain money, SR clothes, chunks and food tickets. after reaching 1200, it's only clothes.

Since you're limited to 1 of each clothes, you convert those into money (4000) or if there's bonus on it, into bonus chunks.

600 and 1200 balls are the most interesting ones (3 tickets, 4 chunks or 32000)

You can press Y in the SR hall to see what you'll get for thé session.

This patch is gonna do some wild things. With so many weapons getting buffs to varying degrees, and most of the already-strong weapons not really getting nerfed much (aside from Aerospray, RIP, and Machine though I'm not sure how severe that inking nerf hurts it), I feel like it's going to take a while before we start to see how things really shake out. At least, it's going to take more time for this meta to settle than it did after the September "everything explodes now" update.

It's easy to say "wow Pro is really good now," but a number of other things that were buffed will also have a better time against it as well, like more mobile Heavy Splatlings, more accurate .96, and faster shifty N-Zaps and so on. Even the quickened brella has more options now to potentially deal with it. It feels hard to chart all of this out on paper, so it's gonna take time to see what people gravitate to. It definitely feels like more is going to be legitimately viable than we've had up to this point, so that can't be too bad.

Plus they buffed Clash so I support this patch by default.

Can't wait for that pro buffs.

Actually, if the .96 Gal returns to its S1 pre-patch glory I'll go back to it.

Judge by .96 Gal deco's set and how fast splatshield activate right now.

On the contrary I think with the 96 gal weapon being the strongest Its been since early Splatoon 1 + reverting splash wall deployment to how it was in late Splatoon 1 the deco variant should be good.

The baller will require a slightly different approach but I wouldn't look down on it.

Plus with special power up's buff of reducing the start up lag of ink armor .96 gal usage should go up from here..

Why does this stupid ass game keep pitting me against two snipers with none on my team.??

The Splattershot Pro is mid-range, not long. Stop treating it as a long range class weapon, game. This garbage matchmaking.

I would probably fear more being in a team with two snipers than none. Which mode was it?

Man, I love the "new" N-ZAP. I used it before patch 1.40 a lot, but lately tended towards the L3. Safe to say, I'm back to the N-ZAP. Its increased mobility plus a few speedups when walking and in ink make for a real nice setup.

Zones on Academy and Pump Track. The game also insisted on pairing me with everyone trying to use the new roller buffs and people still trying to make the Aerospray meme a thing. Not even the one with the Baller that could get some things done at least, the silver one. Congrats on your 1 kill and 0 bomb rushes.

The game would pair me that way because for some insane reason it thinks that a Splattershot Pro can counter chargers that have double my range. The Pro isn't very mobile with thin ink paths so getting in range takes so much more effort and the rollers/aerosprays keep dying so they're not painting and giving the team tons of special meter for their inkjets / splash downs.

Multiple chargers on one team is bad, but it doesn't really matter how many rocks they have on their side when all we have are scissors, especially in this game where nearly every stage is shaped like a bowl. With all these ramps and the main area often completely surrounded by elevated platforms, every stage feels like a smaller Moray Towers with fewer ways to flank.

Junior (and the Custom Jr) are probably the direct closest in terms of ink spread. Sploosh also turfs quite well but comes with a (very) limited range and is generally more combat-aggressive than Aerospray. Splash and N-Zap also turf pretty well and the latter is stupid-fast now. What's best to recommend honestly depends on what you liked most about using the Aerospray in the first place.

I saved 14 chumps and didn't die once this last Run of the Salmon and we STILL lost! Chewing the controller in their mouth tier teammates!

Aaaaaand a dropped teammate this run. Whoooooo.

Edit: And now the game is constantly pairing me with two to three Rollers....The matchmaking and team randomizer has gone to hell after this patch.

When you have to save your teammates more than 10 times, you're probably going to lose, yeah.

This SR has been hell for some reason. I think it's because of the lack of mob-clearing power. Brushes are just almost completely useless in Salmon Run.

The Aerospray nerf hit me so hard. Someone point me to a similar-ish weapon.

Sploosh-o-matic and Splattershot Jr. have similar spread, and they're both faster to kill than the Aerospray - with the Sploosh being the fastest while having the shortest range. They're both inking monsters, and rely on movement speed perks on gear and overall mobility to just swim up close and splat execution style. No real need for ink saver main, but ink saver sub and/or ink recovery up make sense if you use bombs frequently.

Also, sub strafing helps a lot with these weapons as well. If you're unfamiliar with this technique, just do a quick YouTube search for an explanatory video. I believe ThatSRB2Dude has done one, among other folks.

The Sploosh in particular has always been one of my favorite weapons in the first game as well as the sequel. It's really satisfying to be far more mobile than almost any other weapons and just be about to outmaneuver nearly everyone you face in a 1v1. Trust me; you won't miss the Aerospray once you learn how effective the Jr. and Sploosh can be in high level play. Not to mention ALL of the rest of the shooter class as a whole. The Aerospray was never intended to be as imbalanced as it was prior to this patch.

EDIT: Wow, this post is now edited!

Thanks to everyone recommending me the Splattershot, tried it out and got it to a 10 freshness score in 20 matches. Gotta try other weapons in that class. Maybe try my hand at duals too.

Well I just hit my first major annoyance with this game - Ranked Matchmaking.
It’s probably common knowledge, but I guess the game pairs you up with people who are at similar levels and the same rank.

However, I’ve been entering ranked and waiting for the timer to count to zero and kick me back into the lobby for about 15 minutes now. It’s irritating.
I don’t think Splatoon 1 had this issue, if I remember correctly. It would pair you up woth people at the same rank or close to it, but didn’t need the level requirement.
