Are you able to test 3.7 with preset E? Not that I’m expecting much changes, present E is to reduce ghosting and enhance temporal stability, not something you’d see in a still.

Guessing or not, trees and branches shouldn't have invisible portions.

So, at least when it comes to this, one of the two is guessing better than the other.
I also have some pretty big reservations about PSSR "imagining" this branch on the right to be honest:

You don't get it? That isn't some kind of error or bug in the PC version, the PC version of Alan Wake is more supernatural than the Pro.

DLSS= disturbed learning spooky super resolution.

PSSR= PlayStation spectral resolution.
Guess what? There aren't any specters in the Pro version.

PS5 Pro? More like PS5 No,with its RDNA4 graphics chip.( really doing nothing amazing 4.)

It does, although we can't be 100% sure of the extent to which capture methods/alterations played a role since, even as .png, Pro image is a watermarked one from the article whereas the PC one a raw capture from Alex, and both sources have been digitally manipulated to substantially increase exposure. Could be absolutely zero impact whatsoever, but you never know.

ChiefDada ChiefDada appears to be right about foliage though, at least to some extent.

Some branch details appear to be entirely absent with DLSS, despite the higher image quality.
These are most probably just slightly different LOD's. It's like immortals of aveum having a shaprneing filter on PS5 but not on Series X and same of y'all were claiming PS5 had better textures due to SSD or something. No need to complicate things.

All this bickering about PC vs PS5 is so darn tiresome. Can't this be moderated more aggresively?

For those interested in graphical details and comparisons, its really exhausting to see console warring or PC vs PS5 nonsense in a thread that's supposed to be about "Alan Wake 2's PS5 Pro patch".

These pointless discussions about "WHO WINS?" are tiresome and irrelevant.

It makes me want to ignore threads like these.

Man, it's the 2nd time you're complaining about this, you could - you know - just ignore the thread.

Jesus Christ at the thin skin on some of you people, asking for the topic to be "more moderated" of all things...

PS: I've already preordered the thing, I just won't start crying over people sperging over PC vs favorite plastic toy of choice

Sheesh, those are some ugly and grainy noisy reflections on the regular PS5. Glad that the Pro has immensely improved them.

Anyone got a comparison shot of the shadows? It was one another thing that often stuck out on the base console’s performance mode too. I especially recall the ones involving the branches on that minivan where they just looked like a mess on consoles.

I see. It is CPU dependent to achieve 4k/60fps with RT. I hope developers, especially Sony 1st and 2nd party, can do some techniques with ps5 pro to achieve a consistent 4k/60fps with RT in the near future.

I agree Slimy ....but this is what SONY should've been doing on their games.. that was the only point I was hung up on! That Sony, whose frickin console it is, isn't doing something similar in their own games is sad and pathetic!

so the RT is severely cut back on Pro compared to PC, with a shorter BHV range and slower BVH update. if I got this right.

I bet both of these are CPU related adjustments.

Yup ..disappointing ... the rabbid Pro fanboys read the same info we did and came away with "omgz we finally have advanced ray tracing on console; ps5 pro equal to a 4080" lol ...i shit you not

Remedy is making a well argued case about console vs PC here or how people build RT in games that can shift the bottleneck to the GPU RT wise as well.

Not really ...they're making a case that the Pros CPU is a bottleneck on the 3x RT improvements over base ...as the rt reflections are half resolution and have a limited bvh

Honest question, what is he trying to convey here as I don't see any obvious differences?

I see a bit cleaner RT reflections on PC (and better distance too) but more detailed trees on PS5 Pro. Like if running at a higher resolution. PSSR seems to have the edge here. But ultimately both look very similar. PSSR is the same level as DLSS in this game with advantages for PSSR (more detailed vegetation) and advantages with DLSS (a tiny bit sharper).
Trees look "fuller". It did something similar on Final Fantasy.
Edit:

Yes. clearly PSSR does something better than DLSS (and less aliasing) but oddly only we the armchair analysists are noticing it.

I'm curious to see how the PS5 Pro version of this game handles the geometry and if there's any improvements in that regard, the current PS5 and Series X currently leverage Mesh and Primitive Shaders and make heavy use of them. I believe the PS5 has the supported hardware for Mesh Shaders but I'm not sure how they're implemented, if at all on the API level.

Regardless, the PS5 Pro features a new API which "supports Mesh Shaders" according to leaked documentation via DF, this support is likely in the form of a new shader stage which takes advantage of the advancement in RDNA 3, more specifically the "Mesh Shader Fast Launch State", this brings the Mesh Shaders on AMD cards more in line with DX12U and Nvidia.

And meanwhile we have people apparently not even interested in getting the Pro spending way more time on negative posts about it than those of us buying the thing!

I mean, maybe let it go man? If the existence of this thing is bothering you that much, I feel bad for ya. 🤷‍♂️

People saying Performance Mode on the Pro was equal to Quality on PS5 were crazy

Tho the worse part about the game's presentation was the IQ, and it will have a HUGE boost ditching FSR. FSR looks horrible with foliage, which this game had tons.

RT Reflections look good, but it's never worth it for the performance cost. RTAO would benefit the presentation way more, imo.

The game still looks bonkers, but this engine is one of the heaviest available right now. Looks amazing, but shouldnt be this heavy.

So the Pro Performance Mode is not equal to the quality PS5 mode? The devs lied then.

From Remedy's and Naughty Dogs' patch notes we can calculate PSSR scaling factors:

- Quality (1.5x) = 1440p
- Balanced (1.765x) = 1224p
- Performance (2.5x) = 864p

Ratchet and Clank seems to use an internal resolution above 1440p, so an "Ultra Quality" preset could also exists

We will know soon enough

Completely agreed - the CPU concern troll narrative was mainly peddled by DF but they've quietened down on it in recent months as they know they don't have much of a leg to stand on, I'm still confident GTA 6 will run 60 FPS on the Pro.
I always thought it was because there was some legitimacy to it on PS4, and people are stupid and cannot analyze facts and remain anchored in the past.

It not having Path Tracing on Pro is either the CPU bottleneck or Pro isn't RDNA4. Pick your poison. Path Tracing is heavy on the CPU in AW2.

How about the no dithering mode at 40 fps Remedy? This would be the perfect trade off. Set the internal res to 1440p, post processing to high, keep the same graphics setting the same as fidelity mode then use PSSR to 4k. This would get rid most if not all dithering and have a 4k like image quality.

I think most people would prefer this mode instead of the ray tracing mode, but you must have 120h panel. I would have prefer to play this way.

Edit: Although the frame rate improvement is not big, but the respond can really get close to 60fps mode.

What do you think is the internal resolution when people with high/semi-high-end RTX cards engage DLSS at 1440p?

This one is reconstructing to 4k, not 1440p - way more missing pixels to cover.

From Remedy's and Naughty Dogs' patch notes we can calculate PSSR scaling factors:

- Quality (1.5x) = 1440p
- Balanced (1.765x) = 1224p
- Performance (2.5x) = 864p

Performance is 1080p (final fantasy drops to that resolution).

This game is below performance. Sony probably have bottom at 720p ultra performance like dlss and fsr. But I doubt it looks good, dlss from 720p to 4k looks bad.

Lol what? What do you know about rdna4?

They still recommend the same CPU for path tracing as they do with low settings without RT.

Comments under the IGN comparison video are pure cancer. I've never seen so much anger at an optional upgrade in my life. Are these Microsoft bots or green rats or pcmr shills or all three?
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it is mostly disappointed Sony fans.

The clue is the organic hatred and also how many comments there are.

Best way to look at it is like this.

Every PS5 owner wants a free GPU upgrade. Every single one, ever, wants a free GPU upgrade. In fact they would pay for it. Almost all of them.

They just can't afford to pay this much for it.

So that creates disappointment in those who can't afford it.

Apathy is the opposite of love. Hate is love viewed thru different lenses. Only love can spawn true hatred. We often hate something because it is threatening something we love. Sometimes that something is our very identity as a gamer or even a fanboy.

All of the most vile commentators about Pro who have thought about it the most, who comment on every story in the negative, actually probably love Playstation and are simply disappointed(and thus angry, seething, lashing out) they cannot afford the new GPU upgrade. Once you realize that, you no longer want to debate them, you just wish them well and hope that one day they can afford a pro themselves. I do wish them the best and am sorry that being excluded by this pretty high price has hurt them. Maybe next year the price will go down or the job market will be looking up and they will get it afterall. There but for the grace of God go I.

That’s a massive pile of bollocks.

Just ray traced reflections, and with reduced BVH.
Game does feature real-time GI however, as easily noticeable by the red bounce on this woman's shirt:

5ZbC8pp.png
So not even hardware rt for gi...not going to lie that's disappointing for a supposedly next gen amd rt pipeline which is supposed to be on par with ampere/close to lovelace in rt efficiency.

I don't think it's Sony fans, the base PS5 is plenty powerful for most people and I doubt too many PS5 owners are getting their feelings hurt over missing out on ray traced reflections in windows. But just from scrolling through the PC gaming and Xbox subs on Reddit since the Pro was announced, I've been seeing lots of memes attacking it for its price/ performance/ vertical stand sold separately or whatever. Also, the most common talking point, about the mythical $699 PC that can outperform the Pro, is entirely a PC gamer talking point.

Even in this thread there's a whole bunch of people with ostensibly high end PCs, who just couldn't resist coming in here to argue with console peasants who are so far beneath them. Strange.

Doesn't negate the fact that 95% of PC users would be looking at 720p native resolution with DLSS perf enabled.

Yes, but depends on how many people use performance mode at 1440p resolution. Other than that 720p should look better on 1440p screen than 4k screen even using normal scaling, you have 1/4 information on 1440p screen and 1/9 on 4k screen.

It's well known that DLSS performs best at 4k output where even 1080p performance mode usually looks good. On 1440p I don't think it's recommended to go below balance. While on 1080p no one sane should go below quality.

Of course anyone can do anything but results aren't pretty below some point of native res.

I too think it's mostly Sony fans getting way too emotional (the whole hate driven by love thing mentioned above by Zacfoldor). The evidence for me saying this is because the most toxic place of all, worse than IGN, is Pushsquare, a pure Sony site. The comments there on every single article about the Pro hardware, game enhancements, opinion pieces, are the worst. You can feel the anger and real hatred towards any positive statement or comment about the Pro. Endless fake comments about the scale of the differences. Even people who just say they're excited about getting a Pro get kicked to hell for it. The mods aren't much better - they're banning people who try to correct or refute the fake facts peddled in the comments, under the guise of 'trolling other users'.

So anyone who is saying the anger isn't coming from disgruntled Sony fans who can't afford or can't justify the expense and are therefore acting like a young teenager by taking it out on people who can....I direct you to take a peek at the comment sections there and reconsider! If they really weren't interested in the Pro, which is a perfectly valid position, there'd be no reason for the anger and hate that accompanies their comments, nor the amount of time they spend making the exact same points over and over again!
