I game sporadically as an adult. I’ve gone from 3 hours a week to 30+ hours, it depends on the game.

I'm sure I'm well below 10 hours a week on average. I go long stretches of time without having much opportunity to play due to busy work quarters, spending time with my kids, house projects, etc. Then there are slower periods where I might get to play 50 hours in a month.

But I don't gravitate towards smaller games. I still mostly play the big AAA open world games and RPGs. I occasionally enjoy something smaller, but I have no problem playing bigger games in sprints, then putting them down for a long time, then coming back. I played about 60 hours of Cyberpunk in the few months after Phantom Liberty came out, then put it down. I just came back to it a few weeks ago, picked right back up and finished it. It didn't bother me that I hadn't touched it in a year.

My dopamine receptors are pretty much fried, so I can't even last more than an hour per session nowadays. Plus, I honestly find watching videos about games and discussing them on message boards more enjoyable than actually playing them.

Heavily impacted by gamer adults I suppose. When I was growing up very few people over 25 played games.

There’s now a much larger contingent of gamers that are almost 40.

The unfortunate fact is that you are not the only one, and the number of people who do the same thing is shockingly high, and you have better a self-realization than others about this. I think it’s partly why some people are so quick to dislike…well, almost everything.

Bro thinks 30 hours of gaming a week is a lot. Me in the meantime:

Ya get old, have kids, buy a house, and suddenly it just gets really tough to find moments to shove gaming into. I still play, but I don't know if I'll ever have the time for it that I once did

2/3 hours a night max when the family are all away to bed. It cuts in to a bit of sleep time but it’s the only way to do it. Rebirth is still on the go and will take me a long time to finish. I still haven’t started AW2 after waiting for a pro patch so still have that on the backlog along with SO many others. RE4 remake haven’t touched either .

At this stage I honestly may have to consider sticking with my pro when the PS6 launches. I will find it hard to not preorder IF they can sell it to me with the games, but I find it harder and harder to justify spending money on games when my backlog is so ridiculous. Wouldn’t change my life very much at all, but it sure would be nice to have a Friday off to just play games all day

I've moved into the less than 10 hours. I just have so many other projects + work and shows going on, I now pick specific vacation days to unload a big game session in a day or weekend.

I have weeks I play 10+ hours, but on average, it's below 10. Sometimes I go weeks with 0 hours. I work a lot, have a side business and I have two kids. Half my time gaming these days is gaming with my kids. Just bought Phasmophobia. I'm expecting my son to be absolutely terrified, but he insists he wants to play with my daughter and I.

Knowing all of this, why does Microsoft spend so much time and energy (and money) on gamepass?

Anyway, I fall into the less than 10 hours of playtime a week gaming time. I really do wish I had more time for gaming but work commitments and family commitments just take up far too much of my time.

I recently had 5 weeks off work and managed to cram so much gaming in it wasn't funny! If only I was a multi millionaire and didn't need to work...

I still do play for around 10-15 hours a week though, though it can be more if I'm really into a game (it was probably around 20-25 when I was playing Elden Ring)

These days it's less than 10 hours. Just too much going on that requires my attention. That's why I've been gravitating a lot to roguelikes a lot recently. Hell even Monster Hunter is good for that when you can just do a hunt and jump off.

Less than 10 hours a week, kcd2 came out and I've played it twice in 2 weeks. It's so good but I only get time to play in the morning for an hour or so before work then maybe an hour before bed if the wife goes to sleep.usually I'm too tired to get into it or I'm thinking I gotta get up for work.

When I get a day off I don't want to waste the day gaming (its an evening thing for me) so if the wife goes out with mates on weekend evenings then I can get a good 3-4 hour session.

Probably between 8-14 with most weeks just over 10 I'd guess. Backlog is insane and bouncing between lots of games. Still really want to play the likes of no return but struggling with too many great games I need to get round to playing

I'm probably a 2 hour a day gamer, maybe a little more or a little less depending on what I'm playing. That would be 14 a week on average, maybe a bit more. Sometimes I binge, like with Diablo 4, BG3, ER, Destiny 2 ect and I probably double that.

I'm not hating on the 5 hour a week players. Good on you for enjoying your hobby. It's a good hobby!

It really is baffling. The idea in principle is great isn’t it? Unlimited games at your disposal for a cheap monthly fee, but the economics and quality don’t equate. People don’t consume games the same way as music and TV/Film so it doesn’t translate too well.

I had PS Plus premium for a year when it launched cause it was such good value. I was overwhelmed with choice that I was paralysed to choose anything. I did play a number of games on the service and beat them but I could have probably bought them on sale for a similar price and then still owned the games I want. Ownership is still important for me even in the digital age where it is barely owning at all. I completely salute the physical stalwarts on here, my man Thick Thighs Save Lives is flying the flag high along with many others. I traded convenience for my soul

Easily over 30 most weeks. I have a wife and kids. I have a full time job where I easily work over 40 hours most weeks. I talk to my friends a lot on the phone like I'm some teenage girl. I am religious and spend a literal entire day at congregation. I still get over 30 hours. The secret is removing that pesky thing called sleep.

1. Gaming is my favorite hobby.
2. My friends share this hobby and they're long distance now since I've moved away from home years ago. I still game with kids I knew from elementary school lol.
3. My kids love games.
4. My wife loves watching story games since we're not fans of a lot of TV shows or movies.
5. My other family games and it's how I keep up with my brother and dad most of the time.
6. My cousins game with me a lot.

I have a few other hobbies. I read a lot, draw (notice my dumb avatar from years ago?), I watch Bob Ross too much, I enjoy a good movie, I go outside some days and play sports with my kids, I love writing. Really, 30 hours is nothing but it really does depend on how the people around you are. If my wife and friends didn't enjoy games, I'd probably be around 5-10 hours with solo/kids since I don't let them play too much.

It's incredible how many ways gamepass is a bad strategy. There's many angles to this.

I probably fall into this. There will be be times where I put 30 hours into a game over a 2 or 3 week period but then there will be times I play 1 hour a week for a month.

Once I am playing a game, sometimes I do game more than 10 hours - but sometimes I go weeks w/o playing any games. Gaming time is a luxury time these days.

Then again, if I feel like that I am obligated to play any given game, I feel like not playing it at all. It's just a hobby and to have fun.

I'm about to start public transportation commute, so I'm thinking about putting in more gaming during my commute on my Steamdeck or Switch. But most likely, I'll be dozing off like any old folks... haha

Yeah, me too. I'm just thinking of how incentivized developers are to pad out their game, to justify the sales price. I don't think they care so much whether people play the content, as long as they buy the game. And a lot of gamers won't pay full price for a 15 hour game.



You'd be surprised. I've been retired 6 years, and I am surprised at how busy I am. "Busy" is relative, of course, but I've got a lot of things going on, a lot of things to keep me busy - creative projects, home improvement, relationships, classes, games, videos, books, nature outings, doing research, relaxing, wasting time on GAF...

It depends what i'm playing or whats out, but i picked 20-30 hours as i think most weeks fall into that timeframe.

Last week was over 40 hours, and will probably be the same this week with Avowed.

I have the advantage (depending how you look at it) of being single and i live on my own.
