The novels are very different than the anime adaptation due to the format differences. Volume 1 is purely aboutYuuta being assigned to help Rikka pass a math re-try after she failed the first one spectacularly. It also has some bits like a random field trip one day. It's not the best written novel I've read, but I enjoyed it a lot. The content focused nearly 100% on Yuuta/Rikka with a fair amount of Nibutani, Isshiki, and Kannagi. It ended with Yuuta and Rikka getting together, kissing, and Rikka failing her re-try.
Volume 2 takes place a month laterwith Yuuta planning a celebratory first date. They go on the date and kiss again at the end. The next day, Shichimiya, Yuuta's old friend, shows up while Yuuta is alone. Rikka comes in and catches them together and starts to get jealous. Shichimiya battles Rikka (chuuni-style) and loses, thus runs away. She comes back the next day and Yuuta blows off Rikka to show her around the school (running into Nibutani, their mutual old friend). Rikka catches them together again and is even more jealous. She ignores him all the next day and they make up after school. The following day Rikka catches Yuuta again with Shichimiya and runs away crying. Yuuta later finds her bag all alone and gets a call from a kidnapper who kidnaps Rikka. With Nibutani's help, he finds where the kidnapper is and it's revealed to be Shichimiya. He and Shichimiya battle again for him to find Rikka's location. During the battle, she confesses that she loved him but couldn't express it before she moved away. She and Rikka make up as Rikka now knew that Yuuta had no feelings for her. A couple weeks later, Shichimiya transfers to their school.

Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto (Someday's Dreamers)
I'm really really sorry, I'm positive someone in this thread did a write up of this and to whomever you are, it caught my eye and because of it, I decided to watch this. (Should start writing down names of people that inspire me to watch something).
Someday's Dreamers is.... well it's an odd slice of life anime. Imagine a world where magic was possible, but in this world, the mages are working for the government and a lot of what you can and can't do is regulated and constantly being watched; sounds scary right?
Someday's Dreamers follows Kikuchi Yume, our emotional/sensitive protagonist. She's a mage in training and has come to Tokyo to better understand her powers, what it's like to be a mage and to become a certified mage. Throughout Someday's Dreamers, we follow her time in Tokyo and all the issues she faces.
Now even though Kikuchi Yume is our protag and it's all about her, the supports, Angela, another girl who is an apprentice mage is also slightly important and is shown; there are clear arcs that involve her and Kikuchi too. The other "main" person would be the sensei or the mage who helps Yume with the mage training, Masami Oyamada. He's the teacher for Yume and is involved with just about everything that Yume does, although he's laidback and has some issues of his own that we eventually get to explore.
The story, for the most part is very conjoined, it's a slice of life with an episodic format (Which I feel isn't the best choice for Someday's Dreamers, I would have preferred a story that flowed in an easier to follow format). When we're first introduced to Yume, we're told she has extraordinary capabilities and that her mother was a great mage as well. She's able to make money from thin air, lift cars in a city straight into the sky and things that really show, she's powerful. Unfortunately, this angle is never really explored and is essentially forgotten throughout the rest of the episodes.
Although Someday's Dreamers does us it's nigh-on episodic format, it's not "bad" enough to make a big difference, there is just no clear cut time line for us to follow and it feels like there are time skips that keep occurring, though that might be my problem and not the anime.
The sound and music in Someday's Dreamers is gorgeous though, it's a huge "job well done", big thumbs up and all that. The instrumental, orchestrated music that will pop up during scenes is phenomenal and well worth a listen to. The OP (Flowers of the Wind) is fantastic and so peaceful, relaxing and slow; the singer is so beautiful and the way the song is setup, it just sounds so good. The ED (Under the Blue Sky) is just as good, although using a slightly quicker tempo (still plenty slow though), beautiful vocalist, great lyrics. In Episode 12, we get to hear the ED in an acoustic way and it is quite amazing, you can hear (or I think) the passion and depth of the song with how it's performed in an acoustic environment; it's 10/10 stuff.
Seiyuu performance: Normally I don't comment on this, because I love the squeeful, extra cute, moe stuff and since that's all I watch, nothing to say. In Someday's Dreamers however, it sounds like all the seiyuu are very quiet and I don't mean I'm listening to the anime with low volume. It's as if they're near whispering, talking very softly, ya know? This isn't a problem for me, since I seem to talk the same way, soft and "peaceful", but the problem is, it feels like the performances fell flat. Expressions weren't adjusted as much as you'd think and it's a little weird to hear all the performers speak in this low tone type of voice. Now again, not an issue for me, but I feel like the way they speak could most definitely put someone off from this.
Animation: Another aspect in which Someday's Dreamers isn't so hot. It's not fluid, at all. I guess this is what a cheap budget would look like. The mouths just open and close, there are no intricacies in the movements, the animation is .... well I guess not as smooth as it could be. There are many stills used to prolong scenes, and things of that nature. It's a warning, the animation in Someday's Dreamers is not a strong point at all, but fortunately for Someday's Dreamers, it doesn't have to be perfect and extra smooth. The way the entire anime is shown to us, the lack of polish and depth to the animation is almost a non issue...... except for the mouths, I swear there are scenes that literally only have open and close mouth frames with nothing in-between. Again, it's not.... that bad to scare you off, but it's something I noticed and was noticeable throughout all 12 episodes. A good point on animation is when the "special" powers are used. The powers are shown by using holograms, so Yume for instance has a dolphin. Those scenes are incredible and are both drawn and animated well.
Art Style: If we take the animation away from the picture and focus on art, I'd say it's good enough for the way Someday's Dreamers wants to be presented. The colors aren't bold, they're subdued and honestly, almost realistic in how it's shown. The characters are drawn really well and I actually like how it all looks. The eyes aren't so big compared to the faces (I know people hate big eyes). It's a good looking show, even if there isn't so much detail.
Overall: Someday's Dreamers is a solid slice of life story about decision making and always trying to get the best out of any given situation. It's kind, light hearted, sincere and sometimes even serious in how it presents itself. Not everyone will understand what it's like to be a mage, not everyone will understand that you can't do everything, but always try your best, failures and mistakes can help you grow and become better. Yume was a fantastic Main and the concept and theme of the story worked well, I just wish we could have seen more of her capabilities and things of that, because we don't witness much strong magic. (If you're interested, Someday's Dreamers is on Hulu, if you don't want to buy the DVD)
Note: No idea where to put it, but this is a very slow, unfolding type of Slice of Life. I mean... very slow. (I obviously enjoyed it though)

The princess is actually show as lively. A this point in the show we had a character , that actually get into a jail , just to ask a guy questions. AND THEN the storyboard actively depict her as fearless ( the head in the hole ) and lively ( she is moving left and right), suggesting that either the conversation lasted longer than one would think or that she is really lively.
In that same scene, the MC even confident as he is , doesn't even attempt to do anything, many moments in this part actually show the MC moving ( a little thanks to the injuries ). I think the whole scene does what it intended to do , that is actually show the various personnalities of the 2 characters.
The calm and confident prisonner and the curious and energetic "maid". As for the framming , one could say that it's useless at times but not really .. The hole is treated as a device to see the "maid" suggesting that she could be something else if the whole device ( the jail ) isn't there.
Dekomori the best desu~I didn't realise that Dekomori was an original character for the Chuunibyou anime. Strange considering she's more or less my favourite aspect of the show.

The person who did a write up for this show is me. I do hope you like the 1st season of the show. If you have a chance and still interested in the idea, go for season 2. It won't have the characters you follow in the 1st season as it's basically a new show really. The only thing the same is the same style of idea as what if the world they is Mage people who can use magic. The 2nd season take the magic stuff but not go into those magic protocol but more focus of the people of how they use the magic in the everyday world and how it affect them.
For my opinion both are very good show but kind of like the 1st season a bit more mostly because of how they structure the show of the main character and how she develop alone the way before she become a full mage. Doesn't mean the 2nd season isn't better. Actually it's strength is actually how a main character in the show affect everyone around her when she went to training. I do hope you finish the 2nd season to complete this show.

A couple of days ago some people here were saying Zankyou no Terror didn't end up being very good. Now, I stopped watching it around episode three because I thought the premise was too silly for the tone and the way the police acted after a major terrorist attack wasn't exactly believable, but I was under the impression that most people enjoyed it. What exactly went wrong with it? Did it just have a bad or inconclusive ending or something?

Holy crap that is a HUGE departure from the anime. How did they come up with something so different? I think I agree with the anime being much better if that is the case, although that event in S2 would have been pretty interesting, but all that angst would have been even tougher to deal with to what we got already in S2...

E-Sakuga Panel
-Hiromi Hayazaki came up with a style of running that is commonly used. Issue with leg being straight when landing. Animators today are trying to go beyond that and have the legs slightly bent when landing. Utsunomiya did a scene with a girl running. Wrote long list of instructions about how legs should be slightly bent instead of the usual straight when landing, he really seems to be into motion.
::Jarmel meant Hayao Miyazaki here (unless I'm missing some kind of in-joke--I don't really lurk here much). Miyazaki established a method of animating a running character during Future Boy Conan (they actually called it 'Conan run' or something like that) that had been the standard in anime ever since, and this animator believes his way is more accurate/realistic.
-He showed off a picture of Iso and another Eva animator (Tadashi Hiramitsu) after they had gone drinking.
-Some clips from Eva 3.0 were shown with Anno having done these 2D animations for a scene where one of the EVAs was falling and there were explosions all around it. God damn it, it looks so good in gengas. Itano did the CGI for the mech falling and explosions scene.
::More to this: the shape of the explosions are curved, which apparently was one of the original Gundam's innovations according to the lecturer. Itano worked on Gundam (and its explosions) and was a mentor to Anno at one point. So that particular scene he showed had Anno drawing 'curved' explosions that Itano pioneered back in the day, coupled with what would eventually be Itano's own CG of the 2D-drawn EVA-02. Mentor and mentee working together in the same frame. Lovely.
-Overheard someone ask about Iso after the panel, he’s going 3D.

Trigger AX 2015 Panel
New Trigger original anime shown. Only character designs and one shot of setting was shown. The character designs reminded me of Persona in that they’re all 16-17 and have that sort of casual attire that looks like modified school uniforms...Designs definitely don't look like Imaishi.

Yoshinari: “My hands were aching with things I wanted to fix last night.”
::I think he actually did mean 'draw' here, particularly when he talked about his hands aching later. The hand-aching probably had more depth to it than just one interpretation. After all, they just stopped working on it a few days prior which could mean he was still drawing stuff a few days prior, and after months of 'crunch' his hands still hurt. And then, as he saw things he wanted to fix/redraw, his hands instinctively hurt again. So they ached with the desire to change them, but they also just plain hurt from being worked so much.
Q9:To Yoshinari and Imaishi, have you ever had arguments with each other over animation or direction styles?
Imaishi: "Our styles were different to begin with".
::With this exchange and some prior comments in the other panel when they were talking about Inferno Cop and the like compared to LWA, I got the impression that there's a sort of rivalry between Imaishi and Yoshinari within Trigger. Kind of like Miyazaki and Takahata.
Non Non Biyori ep. 1-6:
I don't even kow what to say about this one. It's a straight SoL with nothing but cuteness, more cuteness, a little comedy and not much else, lol. Renge is the cutest 1st grader ever and poor senpai, just keeps getting dumped on. A whole lot of anime cuteness in here. Entertaining to say the least.
Wow, really? I was about to post how amazing I thought it was, haha. They actually nailed a kid character, color me surprised, I liked a child in an action anime.

I feel like Gangsta's pacing is on point, it doesn't just dump a ton of exposition on you and moves on, it's mixing action and exposition in a very pleasant way to watch. It's the nicest surprise of the season IMO, only started watching because it looked nice, but I'm really really liking it.
If it wasn't for Non Non Biyori Repeat, it would be my #1 show of the season so far.
Maybe I'm just not following recent shounens closely enough, but I feel like a generic 90s shounen is much better than what I'd expect out of a battle anime these days. You're right, it didn't have anything special or particularly original about it, but just being a regular shounen felt so refreshing to me.
I'm not very into battle anime though, so maybe I'm just uninformed and recent shounens are fucking awesome.

Well there the problem isn't so much her movement inside the scene but rather how the storyboarding portrays that movement and her location. For example the show uses an overhead shot twice inside the conversation but neither provide the audience any information nor is it done as an interesting shot composition-wise. Another example is when he shakes her hand and they introduce themselves, the camera judt pands back and forth between the bars of the jail cell.

Thanks for the info!I think there's a good chance we'll see something else. Hiroko Utsumi was not involved during the production of the Kyoukai films (but was on the production committee) or Sound! Euphonium. She's up to something. Additionally, the animation producer credit for the High Speed! movie do not list Animation Do unlike the two Free! TV series. There's reason to believe Do's working on something else. They've got an announcement that they hoped to make last month that they're planning on announcing this month, so that could be a new project.
Additionally, this is the 30th anniversary of Kyoto Animation's business founding (they were initially established as a small company in 1981 via Yoko Hatta's painting side-business, but were officially made into a small business in July 1985). There's likely to be an announcement very soon to celebrate that. Kigami's latest blog post said they were already at work on their next project (which wasn't stated) but High Speed's location scouting was sighted this week.
Furthermore, the KyoAni & Do event list Chuunibyou, Tamako, Free/High Speed, Kyoukai, and Euphonium as participating, but include "and more!."
Thus we're expecting something to be said very soon about a possible fall show, directed by Utsumi and heavy Do involvement.
(Side publicity: I'm holding a "From Painting to Publishing: 30 years of Kyoto Animation" panel at Otakon as well. It was waitlisted, but I was told to expect it to move to the main schedule.)
