Unless Nintendo make some epic mistake on par with 2006 Sony or 2013 Microsoft, Switch 2 will do very, very well.

But it's not going to "devastate" anything, PC/PS will still do well out of those who prefer better performance over the hybrid form factor. There's room for more than one platform to thrive.

I had to read your post several times to make sense of it.

But yeah I think Switch 2 is going to kick ass and have great support. It'll probably also be blamed for keeping next-gen back because AAA third-party will not want to leave money on the table. 😅

Many games will be developed to support a wide variety of hardware, there's a lot of options out there. The Switch 2 is not particularly compelling when it comes to playing these games, as its hardware is set to be weaker than the Xbox Series S, and the CPU will significantly limit the more ambitious games. There's also a lot more competition in the portable space now and that will only continue into the future. We're being quite premature in crowning the Switch 2 a massive success, as with Nintendo hardware of the past, it's a bit of a wild card.

So no. It will be more widely adopted than the Switch 1, but it will always play third fiddle to other platforms. Dreaming for more is just pure hopium.

I doubt switch 2 will get anything more than the usual half assed ports from like sega, ea, capcom and the like. You might see them try like a extra game or 2 besides the ones they milk the shit out of porting over and over every console release. Ms will prob be the biggest aaa 3rd party by default due to their commitments from some of those acquisitions

people do not love playing ambitious third party games on their handhelds, no.

they love playing simple, quick, 2D games that aren't graphically strenuous.

The hardware will be outdated from launch, never mind in a few years from now. Most 3rd party studios will abandon it as is always the case with Nintendo hardware. It won't be different this time. They always get decent support at the start but it never lasts.

Of the 21 Switch games that are confirmed to have sold over 10 million units, only 5 match this description, and that's if you count Smash Brothers Ultimate.

If you don't, you're just left with two Pokemon remakes (Let's Go Pikachu/Evee, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl) and two 2D Mario games (NSMBU and Wonder).

It would be nice if they're on par graphically with PS and XBox.

If performance is several notches below, like Witcher 3 on switch for example, I'm out. Switch 2 will be 1st party only for me and thats OK.

Edit: In plain English, games that came out on last gen that couldn't run on the original switch will finally get on the switch 2.

I think the biggest consequence of AAA third party support will be that the first party games won't have those crazy high % of the hardware base anymore.

It is distinguishly possible that the NS2 will take over the industry and become the main target platform for most games.

Only a handful of western AAA will be PS5-level without a down-port. Less than a dozen I'd say.

While 99% of Japanese games will definitely target NS2.

A year from the launch of the Switch 2 Nintendo will have the only console with quality, exclusive titles, that are only playable on Switch 2.
Also expecting keyboard and mouse support (cool joycon bruh) for all you PC GamePass folks (streaming only of course).

Folks like James can enjoy their multiplatform race to the bottom gruel while the Nintenbros will still dominate software sales figures along with critic and user praise.

Both Microsoft and Sony are already publishing multiple games for Nintendo, if rival closed system makers are doing it, a random publisher would have to be completely retarded to ignore the Switch 2. Rockstar won’t have GTA 6 on it but probably a version of 5. Everyone else can’t afford to miss out.

They are releasing a console that will maybe allow for more or less PS4One games when everybody is moving to PS5Series games.

You can be sure that third party support will be limited for the exact same reason as for Switch 1, which was more or less at PS360 level.

Third party Switch 2 support in 2025/2026 will be like night and day compared with Switch third party support.

But that won't "devastate" anything. It will just mean third party titles sell more overall.

There is definetly a peculiar situation on the table atm.
The main points are that:

1)Xbox has collapsed and at this point it's unlikely third party publishers will consider it as a platform to rely on for the future.
So something has to fill the void, Switch 2 could seize this opportunity. But it's also true that the typical Xbox user is almost certainly going to switch either to PC or PS and third parties know about this.

2)Switch 2 will be underpowered and one gen behind the competition. It's realistic to expect something in line with base PS4 graphics.
So same situation as always? More or less because this time due to the prolonged cross gen phase and the existence of lower powered devices like Series S developers might think twice before saying something it's impossible to port.

3)The Nintendo userbase don't buy the console for third party games unless we're considering some Japanese games in Japan.
This is unlikely to change and could lead to the usual cycle of testing waters -> see sales are not great -> give up

It's an interesting wait and see situation imo.

Most games sold on Switch are third party ones, so sales should be decent in general (though not for every game).

It's still not gonna be getting games that really take advantage of PS5/XSX, it's nowhere near that level. Or they will be trash ports.

Either way, I think it's gonna do well but not as well as the original. A lot of casuals aren't gonna see the need to upgrade.

Um, not sure what you're getting at so I'll just say this.

The AAA is pumping out poorly optimized, borderline ugly, and busted games all on their own without Switch 2. Maybe with Switch 2 existing they will learn how to scale shit back, optimize their games, and practice a little constraint with their power budgets instead of making people brute force things with $1000+ GPUs.

Depends on how powerful the hardware is imo. Having PS4 power in 2025 is not good for the industry and using tricks and shortcuts like A.I upscaling and frame generation just to get their games to run properly isn't good either.

We will see
