I know we all assume Silk Song is a launch game. It is appearing more likely this is true.
Because they want launch titles revealed and the marketing pushes to start at a specific time instead of trickling out for a whole year. To answer your thread question though, yes. Nintendo is determining when those start, seeing as how the console was barely announced. So what’s the reason for this?
Different time, Nintendo where very much on the back foot after the WiiU disaster. I see no reason for them to do the same again. This thing will sell like hot cakes regardless.
Then again i'd love to be wrong.
And as is often the case, Jason Schreier is full of shit:

I think they have learned their lesson from the 3DS and Wii U. They'll want the Switch 2 launch to replicate the success of the Switch.Different time, Nintendo where very much on the back foot after the WiiU disaster. I call him the hear-say hub.And yet, his name is still often cited here as if a proper source.
Dudes the Randy Pitchford of game journo's.
Third party wise, I think we see something like AC Mirage, FF VII Remake, Elden Ring, DB Sparking Zero, Sea of Thieves, Dynasty Warriors Origins and RE4 Remake on Day 1.Nintendo is absolutely holding the companies back at this point. I actually wonder if we will get an indie Direct and a 3rd party Direct in subsequent weeks after April 2, leading up to release of Switch 2 in May. (I am assuming).
Another thought, could MS and Sony also hold events the week of April 2nd? I kind of think this is likely as well.

What are you all realistically expecting for Launch day?
40? wow now I feel old. It's the 40th anniversary of Mario this year. That's a perfect reason to drop a new Mario 3d title.
2026 is reserved for the 30th anniversary of Pokemon (expect gen 10 to be a the big Switch 2 title late that year)
I agree with most of what you say.Third party wise, I think we see something like AC Mirage, FF VII Remake, Elden Ring, DB Sparking Zero, Sea of Thieves, Dynasty Warriors Origins and RE4 Remake on Day 1.
I think there is a solid chance we see Wind Waker HD & Twilight Princess HD ports this year.I agree with most of what you say.
I think it looks like this:
1st party launch titles:
Mario Kart and Metroid Prime 4
Later: Splatoon Champions (Splatoon 1 w/ additional content and Battle Royale mode) aimed at e-sports, Switch Sports 2, Mario Paint, 3d Mario teased last for March 2026 release.
Enhanced Switch 1 releases:
- (new releases) Fire Emblem, Kirby Planet Robobot, StarFox Adventures Remake
- Zelda Breathe of the Wild 4K, Mario Odyssey 4K, Xenoblade X enhanced and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Deluxe
2nd party: Xenoblade Warriors
Indies: Hades 2 and Silk Song
Mouse games: Civ VII, PvZ collection, Age of Empires, Sims collection, Mario Paint
3rd party ports: Tekken, Resident Evil 2-3, Yakuza, Final Fantasy VIIR, Death Stranding, Persona 3, Metaphor, Dragon Ball, Assassins Creed, Red Dead 2, Gotham Knights, Elden Ring
New 3rd party titles: Metal Gear, Madden, EA FC, NBA 2k, Dragon Quest 1&2 HD2D, Bomberman Collection HD2D, Borderlands 4, and Chrono Trigger Remake
Xbox Section: Doom, Halo MCC, MS Flight Sim, a new version of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark XBLA, Killer Instinct, and upgrades to previous released Xbox games on Switch 1. Closes with COD. Are the MS games individual releases or is Gamepass coming? Not as sure as I once was on individual releases.
NSO: GameCube & Dreamcast: 1st titles: Shenmue & Sonic Adventure, Mario Baseball, Metroid Prime 2 and Smash Melee!
***I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE IS A Summer Nintendo Direct.***. Next Direct is August/September/October. This event will be BIG
I always wondered why they didn't even do a remake of SM64. It's the laziest collection I've seen and shouldn't have been allowed to be titled 'All-Stars'. The SNES All-Stars should be the gold standard for Nintendo.I still wonder why Nintendo never released Mario Galaxy 2 on Switch when they did have the first galaxy in that Mario 3d Collection......im betting it shows up on Switch 2
In 2017 Nintendo released Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2.
I can absolutely see Prime 4, Mario Kart 9 and a new 3D Mario releasing this year.
Nintendo would still have a lot of games for future years in the pipeline.
Who gives a shit? Honestly, they'll be inferior ports to games you can play already. It is the Ninetdbno way, kids.
It's the 40th anniversary of Mario this year. That's a perfect reason to drop a new Mario 3d title.
Which Mario? Donkey Kong released in 1981.
Snipperclips, Fire Emblem Warriors and 1 2 Switch too. Nintendo puts out around 10 games each year and I expect 2025 to be the same.Plus Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Arms(ok this one wasn't super impressive). Ubisoft also released the surprisingly good Mario Rabbids in 2017
I agree with you on the Wind Waker port. I don’t think they will bundle with Twilight Princess though. It would be one or the other. I also don’t know if they release BOTW 4K and Wind Waker in same year.I think there is a solid chance we see Wind Waker HD & Twilight Princess HD ports this year.
I previously thought they would port/remaster Luigi's Mansion, Metroid Prime 2&3, possibly Super Mario Galaxy 2, but now with CG NSO rumors, I believe that is the route they will take.
They played it coy by just putting ‘Nintnendo’ with googly eyes on top.The new yooka and Kaylee was already announced to it right? Maybe the remaining developer rather have the attention on the showcase than do a small announcement even when there is people looking forward to this.
Thank you for the kind words!Woopah
I respect your opinion. You are more reasoned than most.
I think games like Ninja Gaiden 4 are coming to Switch 2, not sure if at launch. Same with Oblivion Remake which could be announced in the Fall Direct.
Do you think we get a new Tecmo Bowl, or remakes of Wave Race Blue Storm or 1080? There were rumors in the past about these.
Also, you thinking May 15th release? It does seem to line up as that.
Fun fact for everyone. Just sayin’: Doom Dark Ages, Death Stranding 2, and Metal Gear Delta all have Thursday releases. Just sayin’.
Which Mario? Donkey Kong released in 1981.
I haven't seen any credible rumours about Wave Race or 1080, but Nintendo did bring back several niche franchises in the Switch era and I expect that to continue.
Someone asked Takahashi about Wave Race in 2018 and he said it might come back. I wouldn't take that to mean they were actually working on it in 2018.If I remember correctly, years ago someone involved in the Wave Race series hinted at a possible return during an interview. Pretty thin, I know, but better than nothing.
Also, Wave Race has historically been a series Nintendo uses as a technical showcase, so the Switch 2 might be the right time to revive it, if some of the rumors about the system (like its use of DLSS, running BotW at 4k/60 as well as the UE5 Matrix demo, etc.) turn out to be correct.
I agree. I think that Nintendo won’t have every 3rd party games, but it will be the best for big titles since GameCube, maybe ever.Thank you for the kind words!
I'm seeing a June release myself, maybe July.

Third party wise it's going to be like night and day compared with Switch in 2017/2018. Switch 2 will have plenty of PS4 ports but also lots of current gen only games, some day 1 and others ported later.
