Switch 2 is the easiest day 1 purchase in gaming history ever

The idea that people will buy a 500$ console to play old 3rd party games that everyone has already played, with better quality, in their PCs/Current gen consoles seems a bit far fetched.

Nintendo strength is their 1st party, and at launch there isn't much reason to get one for that.
Maybe in a year.

Without a doubt the Switch 2 will just continue to bring home the bacon for Nintendo. Why this seems to bother some on here is another matter altogether. But in all fairness they hated the original Switch as well.

Yes having their biggest selling game at launch is not enough. Yea right.

So it's mandatory for everyone interested in a Switch to like Mario Kart?
A port of the Wii game has sold 67 million copies... Not sure you are being serious here.

I like Mario Kart as much as the next guy, and I want the entry that blew open the formula. But it's not exactly an epochal gaming event to me. Without worrying over the price going up for both the system and game, I could have waited to play it when more games are out.

I think many of us adults who have been playing and fully digested the MK experience our whole lives have likely arrived here.

So on a personal level it's not for you. But I like it... so we are both hardly indicative of the whole. Most will see this simply as the latest Mario Kart game. Buy it and have fun.

Of course hordes of people will buy the new Kart ASAP. How does that make this the "easiest day 1 purchase ever"? A system might as well launch with Minecraft 2. I don't care how many copies it sold, I'm not motivated to drop the cash for that one game.

Switch 2 is an easy day one call if you knew you would want to buy one eventually anyway, because there is ample threat of procrastination taxes.

It's going to sell well no matter what. People need their entertainment. And when you break these things down over time the cost is very little in real terms.

Of course it will sell. I sense some conflation between "it's not the easiest day one purchase" and "it won't sell".

Never ever ever suggested it won't sell, because I am not stupid.

I agree, many exclusive games were announced (from Nintendo or third-party publishers). We will get good exclusive games basically every month. AND the console looks great, is powerful (for the form factor obviously), I already pre-ordered two consoles (one for me, one for my brother).

It will be good also for basically all third-party games, not only exclusives. AA games will run basically as the PS5 or Series X versions. And AAA games will be good enough for most people.

powers third party and first party game over bookmark confirmed

The irony of this is outstanding. Like there are not fanboy's on all systems.
That's why I said MOST hardcore, of course other platforms have fanboys. I remember both PS5/Xbox getting absolutely shit on for their crappy launch games, and to be honest they indeed had lacklustre launch games.

And yet if they DIDN'T have those "old 3rd party games" I know for a FACT that every hater here would gleefully be shouting about how "Switch has no games" and is worthless and will die soon like Wii U.

Sorry but having 3rd party support, is a great thing fir Switch 2, especially considering its a portable device unlike Sony or MS console. So yes, being able to play Street Fighter 6 or Elden Ring on the go and Anywhere is pretty fucking awesome!

And don't act like "new games", like MGS Delta aren't coming.

Yes, but the decent model of the Steam Deck is more expensive with no dock, and the Steam Deck is notably less portable.

The Switch 2 will likely run them better too.
I'd imagine stuff like CIV VII etc. will be much better on it as well. The new mouse mode seems to actually work great according to the previews.

Switch sold 150 million consoles, so more than half of switch users are not interested in Mario Kart.
The Switch has not sold 150 million consoles to individuals. Some people have multiple consoles. But even if it did the attachment rate is very good.

Exactly. Switch launched with Zelda Botw, even Wii U had Super Mario Bros. U. Gamecube had Zelda Twilight Princess on release day...and now after 8 long years (longest wait ever for any console successor) all they could ready was Mario Kart and...a bunch of remasters? Let's not even mention DK Bananza, that one looks like a gatcha game.

I mean.. It's not like they had much choice... 3rd party support was very weak. It was either buy Mario or buy Mario.

Maybe with the Switch 2 having proper 3rd party games that will change.

Yes they never had BOTW. Are you being serious?, Mario Kart is Nintendo's biggest franchise. And it sells well over a long period.

I think Mario Kart and third party is all that is necessary for the launch for be well covered. I don't think it makes it must have day one personally.

You're thinking of TP on Wii BTW. The Gamecube version came out two days later. Day one GC had Luigi's Mansion and wave race lol

Edit: I think instead of a big launch with several games of different genres, they want to do the "staggered launch" that doesn't really end till later in the year like Switch 1. It means the real launch day only has one game and if doesn't punch hard personally, yeah the launch is a bit lame. I don't really want to fully judge it until wave 2. This is how you would feel when NS1 came out if you love Mario games but have less patience for puzzles and long adventuring. By the time they finish throwing both punches, you're in.

I was going to get Kart anyway, it's just not a strong ask for 500 by its lonesome out the gate. I'd like to know what games are cooking for this year.

I have zero interest in the thing and think everything, bar exceptions, that Nintendo showcased looks like absolute ass and a disgrace for the whole industry.
Even my wife and kid are rather lukewarm toward the thing. Question for me as a father is: will these two want to play the damn thing at least a couple times within the timeframe of like 7-8 years. The answer is a clear yes. Will i find at least 1-2 games in 8 years that i like? The answers is probably yes.
So i have a stupid preorder open for the MK bundle and right now it looks like i'm keeping it even though none of us here wants this stupid device. If you look at it as an "investment" for the coming 8 years of Switch 2, the verdict changes drastically, not even pricing in the fact that there's a good chance this thing will be more expensive in the future instead of less.

Bigger open worlds are rarely better than carefully crafted large open areas. Forza Horizon 4 was a great example of this. I got so bored of having to drive great distances just to get to the next ho hum mission.
They've had 8+ years to expertly craft every nook and cranny of this open world map (including any extra areas/courses they have planned for future DLC). I don't think you have to worry about too many "boring and empty spaces".

The MK Direct coming in 4 days should show exactly why Nintendo is pricing this as a premium purchase.

I like Nintendo consoles and games. I've owned them all. I have way too many DS, 3DS, Wii, and Switch games.

That being said, the Nintendo deep-throating in the op is something else.
