"Switch 2 Welcome Tour" is shaping up to have some killer content!

VGC recently attended the event in Paris, where a number of Switch 2 games were available to play.

This included Switch 2 Welcome Tour, the digital-only game designed to introduce players to the Switch 2 hardware and explain how it works through a series of mini-games.

As seen in our video below, two of these mini-games are focused on the Switch 2’s ability to run games at up to 120 frames per second and display them at resolutions of up to 4K.

Sounds good...

As seen in the video, one game called Guess the Frame Rate shows a ball travelling across the screen. Players then have to guess what frame rate the ball is moving at.

Blurbusters in shambles! Nintendo have perfected the UFO test.

Another mini-game is called Super Mario Bros 4K Demo

Nice, can't wait for what this is!

tasks the player with completing World 1-1 of the original NES version of Super Mario Bros.
The twist is that the game is presented in its original resolution of 256×240, meaning it appears as a tiny square on the screen. As you play through the level, it reveals itself on the screen, in a ‘fog of war’ style, eventually demonstrating that the entire World 1-1 stage can fit on a 4K resolution display.

The official Japanese website for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour lists the game at a price of ¥990 yen, which at the time of writing converts to around $6.12 / £4.65.

Great, but have they gone so far down the nickel and dime rabbit hole that this couldn't be a pack-in? I mean, selling this at $5 or whatever isn't even worth the effort to set-up a store page for.

Can’t believe this isn’t a pack in.. Very curious to see sales numbers whenever/if we get those.

But hey, what do I know. They managed to sell 4M of 1-2- Switch.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
There isn't a single thing about the new switch 2 that could sell my non-gaming friends on.
Most of the "casuals" I know IRL are sold solely on "it's got a bigger screen, and it'll fit my hands better".

You sound like my parents before the Super Nintendo was released.

"You already have a Nintendo, son. The corporation is trying to rip you off."
TImes are seriously different. Back then, we had arcades, and SNES was an obvious step-up and getting closer to arcade graphics. The only other competitor was the Genesis/Mega Drive or the Neo Geo.

Your parents just said that because they didn't want to buy it.

Easy: "You can only play the new Mario Kart on Switch 2".

The power of must-play exclusives never fails.
It failed pretty hard for the Wii U. I think Switch 2 sales will be capped at 50-60M. We shall see in like 8 years' time.

The idea behind Switch 2 Welcome Tour is REALLY GOOD. Nintendo has a lot of customers who are not that tech-savvy (parents, older people). Nintendo has always struggled to explain their hardware to them (see Wii U).

However, not giving it out as a digital download for free and actually charging money for what is basically an interactive hardware instruction manual / glorified advertisment, is one of the most stupidest things I've ever seen in the video game industry.

Indeed...

It's so absurd.

It's like a car dealership selling you a car and then charging you for instructions.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
As many have said, this should have been included as part of the system.

You don't want people to pay for something that's designed to get them accustomed to the new features in your hardware.

Nintendo really wanted that $5. Times are tough.
990 yen means that we'll be getting it for 10 USD, really.

it's genuinely a hilariously out of touch product, this is worse than that 1 2 switch sequel no one cared about.

Not going to argue against the first point, but if you offered me any of the 1-2- Switch games or this, I’d honestly take this without any hesitation whatsoever.

I dunno, the 1 2 Switch games at least attempted to be party games, I could see a scenario where if you managed to find a crowd of drunk students willing to participate it could be fun; these are literally tech demos, like stuff you would get on a shareware and shovelware discs with no label randomly at a car boot sale back in the day.

The worst part is that Nintendo isn't exactly unknown for including pre-installed demos in the past, remember Face Raiders on 3DS?
They just absolutely suck these days, it's even a bit hard to believe.

And the worst part is we see it in so many companies nowadays...we may as well be seen as just living breathing wallets to these greedy corporations.

Fuck these shameless companies and the bootlickers that keep defending them.

Nintendo introducing the world to party chat, video chat, 4K, Mouse controls and 120 fps to the world for the first time. Wow, they are truly revolutionary.

Not arguing against any of that. But I’ve tried 1-2- Switch and.. No thanks. And the sequel feels like it might be the lowest rated Nintendo game in decades.

At least this one could be educational and somewhat interesting, especially early on when the system is new.

If Nintendo had offered the option of either this or Everybody 1-2- Switch as freeware, I’d have picked this personally.

The Mario game that fills the 4K screen sounds cool. Shades of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair on XBLA. Spin that off into its own game and you have a deal.

I truly think this will end up free.

Get easy PR points after the price drama,
I bet Nintendo has this planned.
With literally any other company, I’d agree with you. This is a big brain play and would help their current image.

But this is Nintendo we’re talking about. They are dumb and don’t give a shit.

I did watch the Treehouse demo of this today, and I hate admitting that it looks really cool. There were some mini games and tech demos that I actually really want to try.

This should be free, no doubt. But if it’s only like $5-10, I’ll probably end up getting it. I really wanna try that dual mouse cursor bullet hell dodging minigame.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
this shows that Nintendo is actually greedier than Sony.
For some reason, people seems to be more forgiven on what Nintendo is doing, compared to SOny.
