The 4K cut of Crocodile Dundee is being censored for modern audiences

I'm not about to get worked up one way or another over Crocodile Dundee of all things, but unless someone involved with the release has confirmed to the contrary, the issue might actually be the blatant sexual assault committed by the protagonist in those scenes rather than a trans issue.

For sure and I agree they shouldn't do that. I'm just saying the tweet in the OP is jumping to conclusions asserting that it's a trans issue rather than the SA.
I think I would assume it's the trans issue. Not heard of other films being cut because of sexual assault acting.

I'd be happy to look at any evidence.

Also as far as I know you can still find uncensored in-print copies of Ace Ventura, 40 year old virgin, Scary Movie, and Dude Where's My Car, all of which have similar trans jokes. Not sure which movies are getting censored for this.

I hate censorship and revisionist stuff like this. The worst part, in my opinion, is that they think they know what adult customers should want and have. Let me fucking decide if I want to watch these scenes or not, why is a handful of censors responsible for telling me what I can and can't handle?

Son Goku told the joke first and better.

So they removed a couple of scenes poking fun of crossdressers, including one where he gropes someone.

Fortunately not stupid censorship for once. Was afraid they where gonna mess with any Aboriginal stuff.

I understand where they're coming from (and rarely don't by the way in such situations) and I still strongly think it's misguided and plain wrong to censor something that has already been released and has its own audience and hopefully mature enough new viewers to figure that no matter the context that is not appropriate behavior.

Full disclosure, I don't even like Crocodile Dundee.

This is very misguided. They are erasing evidence of the transphobia. Think of it... some fucking boomer mentions to an actual decent person (i.e. a young progressive person) that they enjoyed a movie called "Crocodile Dundee" back in the day... the young person watches it and finds nothing problematic as the scenes in question have been edited out. Thus, they don't realize that they should be canceling that piece of shit boomer for ever accepting a movie with such scenes in the first place.

Yikes. Do better, allies!

Come on bro. If they are cutting it for sexual assault. Why isn't every movie getting cut because people get murdered or beat to death. There are far worse crimes showed on screen that sexual assault.

I don't pay for anything that's censored. If an eventual physical release of this doesn't include the 'offending' scenes I'll pirate the full quality remux and splice in/append the missing scenes from the best available source.

I buy vast amounts of physical media but if they censor stuff, engage in any significant revisionism or hold things hostage on streaming services they can go suck a lemon.

Pretty clear that they didn't read the room and thus failed to understand the assignment.

Lots of older movies and old AF TV shows have questionable scenes but they are a product of the times and anyone with half a wit can see that and see it for what it is, it's unfortunate as these films don't really appeal to the specific people that would be offended by this, I personally love the old UK sitcoms which all have some raised eyebrow scenes but again who watches these other than old bastards like myself so why bother with the censorship?!?

Censorship is bad...unless i agree with it? huh?

Who said that?

I'm guessing obviously but maybe it's a "Greedo shoots first" situation where they think that showing the hero of their family comedy grabbing people's crotches for a laugh doesn't hit the same way anymore.

As I pointed out in another comment, it's not like other notable examples of trans jokes in Hollywood are getting censored either (yet). So either possibility is just as likely as the other.

Ace Ventura is next.

They'd have to delete most of the ending.

Damn, now that flip scene in CD2 won't make any sense! And it wasn't SA, the cross-dresser was just mad he got found out and the lady in the second enjoyed it. I think Aussies just don't want to be associated with testosterone laden bogans anymore.

I can see where this is confusing:

He is in fact, Australian!

Oh no, he moved closer to me = sexual assault.
There was a thread the other day on Reddit - a girl have a kiss to a boy in school, the guy freaked out and shoved her. All the users were quickly to point out how right he was since she “sexually assaulted” him.

If we're talking problems, the first is a man intentionally deceiving another man by pretending he's a woman and the logical conclusion had Mick's mate not stepped in. That's not good. The joke there is the karmic response in the reaction. It's also there to set up the later joke where it's all flipped on its head. It should be seen as sexual assault, but the joke is that she's not.

You can not like the joke of the time, but to ignore all context doesn't do the discussion any favours.
Ffs, just place a disclaimer at the beginning like in Looney Tunes instead of editing out the scene.

Unless that's an airing of Coal Black, what on earth is that apologising for?

I think I could use help with the point you're making, friend. The clip in the OP shows him grabbing a couple of crotches as part of a penis and/or vagina inspection. That's a little different than moving closer to someone, right?

Some old Looney Tunes and old Tom and Jerry have a ton of shitty racist jokes in them that went over our heads as kids but now it's just fucked up. Lot's of blackface jokes and Asian jokes that don't have a place in modern society. Tom and Jerry used to make the old black housekeeper misspell words and talk very uneducatedly.

Looking back on it now that shit is trash.

It is an iconic scene. And part of his character development.

Soft people have ruined good movies. Let people be offended.
I agree. Crocodile Dundee is someone straight from the Australian wilderness that's confronted to modern society. For better or worse, regardless of how you feel about it, this is what the character is about.

If you're going to treat a movie this way, why bother re-releasing it. Just leave it in the past.
