The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited - |OT| - Console edition

Not sure how to feel. Somewhat excited? Really enjoying the game so far and might be willing to drop $80 a year on DLC, but even as a new ESO player, ZOS makes me uncomfortable.

VR ranks gone after Orsinium in December? OK, cool, but you're still adding two more ranks in August/September and refuse to discuss Champion Points, which is like the mutant elephant in the room.

Do you have a link for this? Are they being replaced with something or are they just gone with no replacement?

Edit: Oh wait, it means we can go to other zones?! And now we can play with other factions?? Cool. Although, it kind of reduces the point of it, since you won't level past 50. Might as well start a new character. Wasn't it even in one of their trailers before the console versions that you "never stop progressing"?

Removal of VR ranks was mentioned during the stream.

Them adding controller support for PC might get me to jump ship from consoles.

Anybody got any highlights?

I caught the last half or so. Here's some of what I remember:
  • Imperial City is their 3rd quarter DLC.
  • Orsinium will be their 4th quarter DLC.
  • Next 2 are Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild
  • Apparently crafted armor had slightly more stat points than dropped armor, and it's all going to be equal now.
  • You won't be able to store up AP or materials and buy/craft VR16 gear on day 1. The pvp gear will come from bags instead of vendors, and the crafted gear will use new mats that come from IC, breaking down gear from IC, or bought with Tel Var stones.
  • PC getting controller support with console UI
  • adding subtitles for dialogue that doesn't happen in conversation mode (you can turn this on in your chatbox on PC)
  • VR ranks will be going away eventually, probably after the release of Orsinium. You'll just hit 50 and then use Champion Points to progress your character.
  • They'll be adding the ability to play with other factions in PvE eventually. At first it will be just for the dungeon finder, but later it will support the open world.

Combat is honestly the best part of the game. Sometimes I wish the NPCs would shut up and just let me kill things. Wish there was more enemies though.

This was compile by the user Korozenn on the official forums.

"""" At the beginning of the ESOTU panel at Quakecon 2015, we heard from Game Director Matt Frior that new DLC packs (in other words, major content updates like the Imperial City that will be available for purcase on the Crown Store) will be available on a quarterly basis for ESOTU. :)

The start of this will be with Imperial City, the first DLC pack for ESOTU, which is coming out just in time for Quarter 3 (August 31st). Later this year, Orsinium will also be released (and likely more new information on future updates for 2016 as well, such as the much anticipated Dark Brotherhood).

Hope this helps for those that missed the presentation!

Aside from this, here is the breakdown of the presentation:

Imperial City:
- Tel Var Stone system
- 12 "Roaming" Bosses in IC
- 2 New 4-Player Group Instance Dungeons for PvE in IC
- 1 Expansive Public Dungeon for PvP
- New, repeatable quests
- Imperial City questline
- Details on new item sets
- A new Prism Enchantment for Armor Pieces that apply a Health, Magicka, and Stamina Enchantment

Orsinium:
- Not much new details we already didn't know about
- At least 25 hours of new exploration content
- Coming before end of year
- BEARS
- Price TBD*

* If you do not have an active ESO Plus subscription, that is.

2016:
- Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood will be two separate DLC and both are coming the first half of 2016.
- Q3 and Q4 DLC will be detailed next year.

Quality of Life Updates:
- Looking for Group (LFG): They're working on making it work better and be more intuitive. Players from any alliance will be able to join in a queue for Group Instances after the change is implemented.
- Controller Support: Their plans thus far on this is for the console UI to be seamlessly brought over into this game and that the UI will change from PC to the console UI by the touch of your keybord and mouse or gamepad.
- Removal of the Veteran Ranks: They will just keep Champion Points in place of Veteran Ranks, and you will still get new Skill Points and Attribute Points to spend through this new system. But they made it clear it will take a while to implement as a change of this caliber affects the entirety of end-game as there is a lot of content progression that Veteran Ranks are currently tied to and they're trying to make this transition as smoothly as possible

Really sorry if this is a stupid noob question, but I'm from the UK and last night bought the imperial edition ($54) for my son. It's now downloaded but it seems to be just the standard edition...what are we missing? Are the imperial 'add-ons' restricted to the US account I purchased the game on?

Yeah only the account that you purchased it with will be able to use any of the Imperial edition upgrades.

cheers, what a pile of shit and waste of money, should have just bought the $40 edition - d'oh!

so I assume ESO subs will be the same - what about DLC, if I buy DLC on the US store will that be usable on other accounts?

Nope. Everything is account bound, even real DLC. So other people who use your PS4 are out of luck. I complained about it on the official forums and I basically got told to fuck off.

I won't put a further dime into this game.

It's just the way MMO'S always worked, since like, forever. I bought a eso plus membership on xbox1 so I can catch up with a co-worker, in a nice "everything goes my way" world, those xp bonuses would extend to my ps4 account, but nope, couldn't use my ps4 account on Xbox one, ect ect

Just business

I wouldn't expect stuff to transfer between platforms, but I do expect content that I purchase and download onto my PS4 to be usable by everyone on that PS4, like every single other game and piece of DLC since DLC first started.

It's definitely a consideration for me as well. Every time a DLC drops, I'm going to have to fork out $40.

Another consideration is Champion Points, which ZOS seems all in on. Without some sort of cap system, you're competing against people who treat ESO like a job, and that's no fun.

I can see why it sucks, but I can't think of any MMO that doesn't tie everything to your account and isn't shareable to family/friends. Sharing digital content legally and having it built into the system might be somewhat of the norm on consoles now, they've been doing it for nearly 10 years, but places like Steam have only been doing it for just over a year. MMOs have a much much bigger presence on PC than consoles and always have, they rely on the same bunch of players coming back and spending ridiculous amounts of money for just themselves. They also have no reason to change, for the few that don't spend the money due to the way the system works there's many more players who will pay.

That's neat, but I want some experience improving updates, changing character appearance for instance is something that pretty much every other modern MMO does in some form. Most MMOs have player or guild housing/bases as something for long term players to build towards. These are the things I want to see.

Cheers guys.

The main problem I have with digital is the inconsistency, it sucks but what can you do...the main problem was the disparity between UK & US prices, I mean, WTF £55 vs $40 for the base game!?

I also assume the game content is region locked so even if I buy him stuff on his UK account it now won't work...typical double standard BS

Yeah I don't get some people. It is a MMO, but we got one guy calling it shit and another pissed because he wants multiple of the same dlc but wants it for free for his other accounts. It does not work that way with MMOs.

Me and my wife play this and from day one we knew it worked this way since it is a mmo.

Logged in earlier for a bit for the first time in a few days just to check how many items I sold among the 4 guilds I'm in, was expecting it to be a decent amount, it was only 2, lol.

Not having a trader really makes sales suffer, even with full guilds.

This is my first and last MMO if that is the case. I won't put up with anti-consumer bullshit like that.
Anti Consumer? How is that anti consumer? So basically you want free shit for other people that play on your box and you call it anti consumer? Get real man.

Here's a 6 minute video of the upcoming Imperial City DLC, from QuakeCon panel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgOwswyOm58

New DLC will be released quarterly. In Q3 this year it's Imperial City (PVP and PVE content), in Q4 this year it's Orsinium (PVE - about 20 hours of new content and new zone to explore). Q1 2016 is Thieves Guild. Q2 2016 is Dark Brotherhood.

Its anti-consumer because I've already paid for the content once, I shouldn't need to pay for it again. I don't have to pay a fee every time someone else wants to play a game I digitally downloaded on my PS4 with their account, why should DLC be any different?

On every other game it isn't. ESO is the only game I've played where DLC is account bound.

These companies don't need you to defend them.

I guess you don't have kids, but it's not just that - this is my first MMO - the whole thing is different to everything else I ever bought - I didn't expect all users to get the extra bits from the Imperial either - but I did expect some sort of 'first time game accessed' type thing where my son would get the extra bits.

Not only that, like I said - he's playing on a UK account and I bet anything he might buy on his account won't work in the game he has because it's a US version.

Can anyone tell me if you can pass coins onto each other? Or is the only way to get them pay for them? Ie the only way he can play the game if he ever wants to purchase anything else is to play with my US account?

Again, every mmo is this way and perhaps you can't get past the fact that this how mmos work. I am not defending a company, I am pointing out that not every genre works in the same way. MMO have worked this way for a very long time.

Just because he doesn't agree with bullshit practices doesn't mean he's in the wrong for thinking the way he does. The DLC shouldn't be account bound on consoles, just like the game isn't.

I find it kinda of sad that this is what most people will say though.

Way to just accept things for what they are guys, you are perfect consumers, lol.

Guess what though? MMOs are new to consoles, so why do PC rules apply here? They shouldn't.

I'm not agreeing with the method. But it is what it is. Could they have changed it sure but then you PC players would be pissed.

Why doesn't ESO have Conjuring? Will they introduce it later?

EDIT:

Okay, I checked and it's apparently limited to the Sorcerer with a paltry list of summons
Is the Sorcerer a pure squishy wizard or does he have some Survivability?

Any class can use any armour, weapon and almost any skill in ESO. So you can be a heavy armour wearing sorcerer with a staff casting heals and summoning.

I use heavy armor with my Sorcerer. Being a Breton I have natural passives that help make up for the lost magicka passives for not using light armor.

This is what many players don't get that ESO does better than others. What SG-17 is doing is getting all the benefits of heavy armor and using his characters passives to make up for anything lost.

So many think that you must be locked into a certain armor class but this game has the flexibility to mix and match armor to maximize your toons effectiveness.
