Amir0x said:damn these production videos are really well done.
I'm conflicted over whether I want to watch them all now or wait for the inevitable ultimate Hobbit set that has all this as extra content on the disc.
AceBandage said:Watch them now. By the time these are all on a disc with the movie, you'll have forgotten most of them.
Yeah. Nice wink and a nod there.Johnlenham said:I like how in the video when asked who he would have for dinner Gandalf says "oh I wouldn't have them all, maybe two at a time" haha massive nod to later on in the film
A high production series in the same vein as Game of Thrones would probably work.Veidt said:The Silmarilion should have been filmed, but part of me realises that it is literally unfilmable.

Roverandom is very sweet faerie story, Id certainly recommend it.Galvanise_ said:As this is probably the best place to announce my joy. . .
I just purchased the complete 'History of Middle Earth' (12 Volumes) in Hardback with illustrations from John Howe . . .
for just £21. ($34).
I am over the moon.
The only Tolkein (J.R.R and Christopher) work I don't own now is Roverandom.

Will it be a single movie?

I'm missing a few of the HOME series, I'd be interested in buying them. Could you PM me?Galvanise_ said:Some very, very poor Ebay listing.
I found a gem and sat there with baited breath for about 4 hours.
I'm a guy who likes to have the complete set of something, so if a series of books comes out, I like to have a consistent cover theme throughout.
My other Tolkien works all have the black background and the Tolkien logos on them, but I couldn't resist this set at that price.
So I'll now have a few volumes of THOME to sell as they no longer thematically suit my bookshelf.
Speaking of Beorn. In video blog 2 they were scouting locations for the grasslands at the edge if mirkwood, and they pointed out a giant rock that could be part of a house. It didn't dawn on me till later that it could have been Beorns house they were scoutingSiegfriedFM said:Only thing I'm worried about still is Mikael Persbrandt as Beorn.

I'm getting those pre-Phantom Menace hyped feelings again, but this one surely CAN'T disappoint.
Right?
right?
...right?
SiegfriedFM said:Oh yeah, there's loads of characters in The Hobbit. I'm being a bit overwhelmed by all the dwarves at the moment, but there's quite a few more.
Do we know how they'll handle all the talking trolls, animals and purses (!)? Lots of stuff in Bilbo really contradicts LotR or is just silly (how Bullroarer Took invented golf by taking the head off a troll with a club swing).
THE-Pink-Dagger said:Well this is all gonna be probably CGI and maybe a bit of animatronic as well. The thing I'm most looking forward to is Smaug, since Cumberbatch is doing mo cap as well, just curious to see what's it's going to look like, he has to be huge but with a strong personality, Cumberbatch is just gonna nail it, for sure.
But the facial aspect is going to be very interesting to see, one thing I think that they will tone down are the songs, maybe not use all of them because it could be a bit embarrassing.
In the Unfinished Tales as well. If they use material from the Quest of Erebor it'll probably be used in a prologue or maybe Gandalf the White recollecting his memories with Bilbo and Frodo.agrajag said:Hey, it occurs to me that if they're expanding The Hobbit to add more stuff from the Appendixes and such, they should also add "The Quest of Erebor," which is Gandalf's account of how the events in The Hobbit came about. If you don't know where to read it, it's in The Annotated Hobbit.

Galvanise_ said:I wonder what cut of anything sold the Tolkein Estate gets. All character trademarks, places etc should really be theirs. Really got on my nerves that Warner Bro's trademarked absolutely everything Harry Potter when in fact J.K Rowling should own it all.
I've often thought that was the only way to make The Silmarillion work, though I just re-read that particular story the other day and it would take a lot of intro exposition to explain many of the key story elements.Edmond Dantès said:A high production series in the same vein as Game of Thrones would probably work.
Or adapting the story of Beren and Luthien.
