The way these "adaptations" are going, I suspect we will see a LOTR movie where Arwen has a split personality and is both Aragorn's lover AND Sauron...."what a twist!"

Huh... Helm Hammerhand is presented as little more than a secondary character in what should be his own story, overshadowed by other elements.
To make matters worse, the poster doesn't even mention Fréaláf, the hero who ultimately put an end to the war and secured victory.
I don't have a problem with them adding new characters, but they shouldn't rearrange Tolkien's writings to such an extent.

I would go see it, but then I think about Warner Bros... A resentful, hypocritical company that made fun of Japan and anime... I lose the desire to see it.
I'm on the fence. On the one hand it's LOTR and seems to have a decent aesthetic so it ought to be fun, unlike the abysmal Rings of Power. On the other hand it appears to be woke tosh, written by a noob, pretty far from the admittedly scant source, and why reward stuff "not made for me"? Will have to check out reviews and see if I can carve some time out for it. My kid seems to have no interest.

It's obviously girlboss junk written for political purposes. Lets be real not a single person involved in this production give a single shit about LOTR, including the family after Christopher Tolkien died.
I don't mind an anime girlboss so long as she is cute, feminine, throws a little fan service in there. This does actually kinda look like it has more of an action anime feel than a serious exploration of Middle-Earth so I'm more willing to give it a pass if it isn't preachy. But if they cut out the nephews and have this Hera chick do ALL the work, yeah that's bullshit. It would be yet ANOTHER misunderstanding of what women find appealing in LOTR and of course what the men do.

I don't mind either, but the teasers they made here really sounds like they are putting way too much emphasys on this girl(and girlboss trope). And I was like "is this really LotR or are they even at war?". Whats the point of selling the theme of war but focusing on a single character for whatever reason?
Gonna wait and see how it fairs first.

Come on man, you couldn't read the 2 pages of info on this event in the appendices and comment? He's gotta know that the lore purists wanna know how well it hews to it so why not talk about it? I've a feeling its because it deviates quite a bit.

If this was western animation/aesthetic, I would be so much more excited. When I originally heard of the project I was hyped.
Don't get me wrong, I do love anime but this aesthetic has a time and place. These character designs are far too "beautiful" with similar face shapes for this world and zero artistic originality.
Absolutely zero difference in the art direction from Fire Emblem or a hundred random JRPGs. If you can't tell the property from a still or even a character design when it comes to animation, it's forgettable and certainly doesn't portray the budget of a film franchise. It comes off like a cheap outsourced alternative. It was a tone deaf idea.
Also whoever spliced in the live action into the trailer... my god.

Well, how close to the appendix is it? Are the brothers and nephews prominent and perform the actions attributed to them or totally absent/relegated to the background?

I can't answer that, my only exposure to lotr are the movies and games, but the brothers go into battle if that's what you want to know.

You don't have to go into detail, I'd just be interested if you read it and can comment on whether or not you think THAT story was well serviced in the film. Was Hera used within that framework or did she take it over?

I would say it's almost identical, beat for beat, like 90% there, but obviously a short story like this wouldn't make for a 2+ hours movie, so there are some changes, like the brother's have prominence before going to helm's deep, and the nephew also has a bigger part in the first act, but that's just to establish his character, and some stuff inserted specifically for hera otherwise there would be no story to tell for her, but yeah it pretty much plays out like in those few imagesHere is the ENTIRETY of Tolkiens musings on Helm that I posted in another thread. This was very good and I was impressed by the art style. I very rarely watch anything anime. I'm glad we got more animated Middle-earth movies. Someone should make a new animated adaptation of Lord of the Rings.

Saw it. It's actually good. I'm the first to call out bad or really bad movies, but this one is not. Don't expect too much (in other words, a full-fledged, 10+ Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings movie), but it IS a nice little Lord of the Rings side story... in an Anime style. Speacking of which, the art style is quite beautiful.
I went in with lowered expectations, because of the diverse reviews floating around the internet, but left the theatre entertained and not disappointed. You do have to get in with your expectation in check, like I've mentioned, then you'll pretty likely have a good time.

I thought it was average. It's basically like the Two Towers, only not as good. Including the "strong woman warrior" plot which is fine, only not very original (I actually thought the older warrior woman was quite a badass, the main protagonist herself didn't do that much).
I liked the art style but the animation quality was very uneven. The plot is basic, if not silly. For the Lore, it's interesting to acknowledge that some humans from ancient origins are not exactly like the others.

Bellow avarage, I think this movie would do abit better without the anime art. Felt like straight out to make the characters looks better not exactly as a choice or because they like it. I think imo is definitivelly a girlboss trope, it has way too much power to her. Which is a shame, as I said its not actually a terrible one. Just a way too simplistic story for my tastes, but It had potential.

I really enjoyed it. Wulf was a great villain. Helm was unbelievably awesome.
I AM a lore purist. Hera is done tastefully, but shes fun. All the characters are great. Its pretty accurate to the story from the appendice

Watched today at the theater and enjoyed it. Not sure if I liked anime look, but the story was very much similar as other Hobbit/LOTR battles. Some parts looked like rotoscoped and well animated - while some were not.

Watched it earlier today. I was immensely disappointed. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
What nailed the coffin for me was how Hera decides to
Wulf had zero depth as an antagonist too. Overall the movie and characters were very weak. Big budget animation wasted on a poorly executed story.
