Voges and Feguson's dismissals were a cavalcade of stupid.

Another terrible collapse by Australia. Hopefully they can get something going by Adelaide, they are looking pretty second rate when it comes to batting.

Not sure you can blame the bowlers when they are defending such pitiful totals all the time. I wouldn't drop any of them at the moment unless you wanted to do the right thing and pick Bird. Who should have played at his home ground. But gotta have your bowler scores runs, right Rod?

The batting is just woeful and other than a complete gutting and stop trying to pick all rounders to fill spots, I am not sure what you do. The lack of genuinely good options in shield cricket (well, if shield cricket was actually being played as it once was), then I am not sure what you do.

Ferguson I would keep around for another test as it likely doesn't matter anyway and dropping someone after a single match is harsh.

Voges is done, he's 37 and not going to take the team anywhere, thanks for all the runs against the West indies.

Burns should probably stay for now also, unless Shaun Marsh is ready to go again, then, definitely drop him. Definitely.

Amazing to think there's a good chance he'll retire with the second-highest batting average ever. More evidence why a two-tiered Test system should be implemented.

The bowling stocks seem "okay", Starc is a good x-factor bowler but he needs another strike bowler to back him up if it's not going his way. It's a shame that Pattinson and Cummins can't get on the field, because a lineup of Starc/Pattinson or Cummins/Hazlewood looks really good.

The batting has massive issues. No one is knocking down the door either. I guess at this point they should pick the players with the best averages in Shield and go from there.

If this doesn't teach Smith/Warner and co some humility I guess nothing will.

MMarsh is a better batsman than Callum and a better bowler than Mennie. Addition by subtraction.

When was the last time an opening batsman/wicket keeper worked out at Test level?

Maddinson and Head are not Test players ...... There are enough players with ADHD in the team as it is.

Hanscombe can also keep. Right now if Nevill is the best keeper in AUS you may as well try something new. What's the worst that can happen, we lose again?

Need at least one stroke-maker at 5 or 6. Maddison for all his faults is very experienced and has one of the best SS averages of the possibles. Little boof is also a chance.

Sheffield Shield round this weekend, if there was even a time for someone to step up it's now.

I hate correcting spelling on forums, but his name is MaddiNson. Aside from this, he fails as a Test batsman because he can't occupy the crease for long and he averages under 40 in FC cricket.

Could have sworn MaddiNson averaged well into the 40's. Looks like his 30 year last year hurt him but he used to be the best outside of test players for a while there in term of average.

Rod Marsh has resigned as well.

The two coming Day/Night tests should be interesting. Adelaide moved sideways last year and there should be plenty of movement in Brisbane if it's Humid. The only way is up I suppose.

Marcus Harris has probably ruled himself out too. A bit of an outsider, was very average at WA but has started this year very well for the Vics and has been highly thought about for a while.

Stoinis gone as well, another outsider for the Allrounder role.

Ussie looking comfortable on a Gabba greentop.

Doug the Rug has finally given up on the rug, though the beard is a little ridiculous.

Peter Handscomb's knock is timely - keep going, son.

100 up for Khawaja - nice. Good support at the other end as well - too soon to consider Matt Renshaw? Greg Chappell is in attendance, for what it's worth.

I believe Agar is injured, same for MMarsh. Agar would have been first pick, been bowling really well this year.

As for Renshaw, England just picked a 19 y.o. and Renshaw has as good a record as anyone else. Seemed to deal with a very good SA attack well. He and Bancroft are both more in the Rogers mold rather than Warner.

Edit: Voges retired hurt after a blow to the head.

Then it's settled, let's pick him. Youth + runs, Renshaw is ticking all the boxes. Would be better theatre if he were to debut against England, but these are desperate times.

No one from NSW did a whole lot today, so they'll probably all get picked anyway by Mark Waugh. :p Sayers did look good this morning, he'd be ideal for a moving Adelaide D/N test. Zampa got a few but they were mostly people hitting out.

Renshaw, Dean, Hanscombe and Whiteman pushed their respective claims well. Turner is a bit of nobody so even a ton won't get him consideration, averaged under 30 until today. The rest of WA didn't do much either.

To be honest I doubt there will be 5-6 changes, probably 3 max. An Opener, a middle order batsman and a 3rd fast bowler. Lyon, Nevill and Ferguson will probably get reprieves.

Man, you're not wrong. The scuttle-bug around the Sydney Grade Cricket scene is that MEW is pushing for Kurtis Patterson to replace Voges.

Zampa is a leggie who relies on variation of pace. Fine for PJ cricket, but Pakistan and India will eat him alive in Tests.

Tbf there were plenty of leggies that rely on pace rather than turn over the years ala anil kumble.

Sometimes you just have to make do with what you have, the days of multiple players averaging in the 50's at shield level are gone.

55+: Smith (Australia's only genuine world class player)
50-55: Voges (Just and even if form didn't rule him out, his Concussion surely will)
45-50: Warner, Cartwright, Boof Junior, Weatherald
40-45: Susan Koala, Renshaw, Maxi, Bear, Patterson, Klinger, SMarsh, Lynn.
35-40: Burns, Heazlett, Ferguson, Hanscombe, Stoinis, Dean, Wade, Hughes, Maddinson, Bailey
30-35: Marnus Lasange, Head, Cooper, Harris, Henriquies, Doolan
Sub 30: SOK, Doran, Silk, Faulkner, MMarsh, Agar

In ideal times you wouldn't even look at people in the 30's unless their form is outstanding.

Patterson is no surprise, he's been talked about for ages and AB and Haddin had him in their Adelaide lineups. Haddin being a keeper picked 2 keepers in his team as well!

Right now its probably Patterson or Hanscombe for Voges and Bird or Sayers for Mennie. If SMarsh is ready for Pakistan tests they may not want to throw a young newbie in for one test. Ussie might open with everyone pushed up 1.

Weatherald is very early in his career but if mini-boof goes big tomorrow he could demand selection, he has some serious talent.

Ussie opening sounds very plausible. That way they can go all in with both Patterson and Hanscombe and see who sticks.

Btw, Voges is averaging <50 in 1st class cricket.

Is Mennie injured or rested? If the latter, he probably won't get dropped.

I might have been a little unfair on the NSW attack yesterday, while they didn't take a lot of wickets they didn't let Victoria get away from them like SA did to Queensland. SA were missing Mennie and Worrall though.
