The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal reminded me how much I take my Xbox for granted

The Xbox Series X|S and features like Xbox Play Anywhere, Xbox Game Pass, cloud gaming, and beyond, make me glad I'm not into Nintendo nostalgia.
Out of an abundance of morbid curiosity, I found myself watching the Nintendo Switch 2 live stream yesterday, despite being a somewhat lapsed Nintendo fan.
My backlog on Xbox and Steam is vast enough that I'll never be short of things to play — but I was curious how Nintendo might push innovation in the handheld form factor, particularly given how Microsoft is exploring its own Xbox handheld both internally, and with a partner via Project Kennan.
Jez jumping in on this bringing the heat. Lol.

Meltdowns post console announcements and/or big news are the best
Keep them coming!

But here's what I don't understand - why are they having these strange meltdowns over other companies that are not their preferred platform announcing/releasing new hardware?

Taking for granted means assuming something will definitely continue to be there.

Ain't no one still taking Xbox "for granted". Not even Microsoft.

People don't rush out to buy new hardware to play South of Midnight and Avowed but they do to play the games that are synonymous with Nintendo and Sony's platforms.

I didn’t say they do.

There is a steady stream of good titles instead of system sellers. System sellers may be good games or bad, nothing is guaranteed.

To be fair, they're mostly "oh I'd play them with a good discount" types of games most of the time, but not really you would've want to play full price for them cause they're good time-fillers.

Which is good to have when you already have console-defining games that are the talks for GOTY and they fill the gaps.

Console defining games for PS5?

God of War or Astro bot?

Nah am good.

Will get to them when I can.

Would rather play Atomfall, then Commandos after that.

I'm actually on the line of how I take Steam granted and benefited. Hope Valve and Gabe will stay course for long long time.

Smart delivery is the biggest counter to Nintendo here specifically for me. Rather than charging $10 for a next gen upgrade, or something like resolution and frame rate boost, your Xbox will just… Do it for you automatically lol.

I mean it's fanboying/shilling 101.

If your preferred console/company announces something: Act as if it's the greatest thing ever and fervently defend it from any online criticism.
If another console/company announces something: Downplay it, criticize it, make hyperbolic doom and gloom statements about it and be sure to remind everyone about all the good things your preferred console does better

Not Jez using Switch 2 to promote Xbox lmao

Even the way he words this is weird as hell. Like watching a Nintendo stream is a crime for him or smth

Scared of hype perhaps? I’ve seen more PS fans, Xbox fans, Steam Deck fans talk about Nintendo and Switch 2 these days than ever before, starting threads, posting on social, always seemingly vacuuming the internet for negative takes.

Waste of energy imo. Entusiasts should know they’ll buy the system anyway. Nintendo ain’t doing any ports. And can’t bank on emulation anytime soon.

I’ll be there day 1, assuming the scalpers allow me, and no $90 game or Switch 1 cartridge with a Switch 2 code or paywall for C-button is going to stop me. Excited for dual mouse controls, analog stick movement + mouse aiming, and obviously Mario Kart and another Metroid, will probably double dip on Elden Ring too for bedtime gaming if gsync and dlss bring in some improvements over Steam Deck.

Depends on whether you are measuring consumer value or fandom. In the gaming community it's seems to be inversely correlated.
