To all the women who tolerated me.

Excellent to see him posted. His lyrics are incredibly observant.

The couplet:
"There'll be the breaking of the ancient Western code
Your private life will suddenly explode"

Perhaps inadvertently predicting inevitable effects of the internet and access to information. But not supernatural, interpreting trends with horizons expanding in all directions.

And with historic references allows the listener to reach that visionary state and recognize the trend for oneself.

For one reason or another I listened to The Hockey Song by Stompin' Tom Conners. If you are Canadian there's a good chance you've heard of the guy. I know mom would have went out to see him perform but, aside from snippets here and there, I never sat down to listen to his music.

Such a fun and silly song.

Live:

You might think its goofie, but the man in the moon is a Newfie
And he's sailin on to glory, away in the golden dory....x2
Codfish Dan from Newfoundland he dreamt that he had tree wishes
And he took mars and all the stars and he turned them into big fishes
He said the sky was much too dry and he made a wavy motion
And the moon like a boat began to float upon the starry ocean

Chorus:
And you might think its goofy...
One night he strayed to the milky way to cast his nets upon it
He spied the tail of a great big whale and he harpooned Haleys comet
He never had a pot for the fish that he caught so he had to use the big dipper
And the sun by jove was a very good stove for cookin up smelts and kippers

Chorus:
Now the northern lights that seem so bright like nothin could be grander
Well they're just waves that the moon-boat made by the Newfoundland Commander!
And don't you sigh and say oh my "What gross exagerration!"
Cause he'll tell you the dream was true when Codfish Dan awakens

Chorus:
And you might think its goofy but the man in the moon is a Newfie....
Twice and then end...

Live:

The girls are out to Bingo and the boys are gettin' stinko,
And we think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday night.
The glasses they will tinkle when our eyes begin to twinkle,
And we'll think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday night.

With Irish Jim O'Connel there and Scotty Jack Macdonald,
There's honky Fredrick Hurchell gettin' tight, but that's alright,
There's happy German Fritzy there with Frenchy getting tipsy,
And even Joe the Gypsy knows it's Saturday tonight.

Now when Mary Ann and Mabel come to join us at the table,
And tell us how the Bingo went tonight, we'll look a fright.
But if they won the money, we'll be lappin' up the honey, boys,
'Cause everything is funny, for it's Saturday tonight

The girls are out to Bingo and the boys are gettin' stinko,
And we think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday night.
The glasses they will tinkle when our eyes begin to twinkle,
And we'll think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday night.

We'll drink the loot we borrowed and recuperate tomorrow,
'Cause everything is wonderful tonight, we had a good fight,
We ate the Dilly Pickle and we forgot about the Nickel,
And everybody's tickled, for it's Saturday tonight

The songs that we'll be singing, they might be wrong but they'll be ringing,
When the lights of town are shining bright, and we're all tight,
We'll get to work on Monday, but tomorrow's only Sunday,
And we're out to have a fun day for it's Saturday tonight. Yeah

The girls are out to Bingo and the boys are gettin' stinko,
And we think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday night.
The glasses they will tinkle when our eyes begin to twinkle,
And we'll think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday night.

We'll think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday night.

I'm learning about Canadian history I never knew about.

1969 song about the Reesor Siding Strike of 1963 which saw three union workers murdered.

Just a little bit west of Kapuskasing
Reesor Crossing, that's the name
Farmers hauled, from out of the bushland
Pulpwood for the mill-bound train

20 farmers met that night
To guard their pulp from a union strike
Unaware this night would see
A Reesor Crossing Tragedy
A Reesor Crossing Tragedy

"You'll never load that pile of lumber"
Said the Union men, when they came
Though they numbered about five hundred
The 20 farmers took rifle aim

We've got to get our pulpwood out
Before the muskeg, frost comes out
And may God help us all to see
No Reesor Crossing Tragedy
No Reesor Crossing Tragedy

"You'll never touch this pile of lumber"
But they came, and tragically
Three men died, that February night in the year of '63

Eight more wounded, some beat up
Tires slashed on the lumber trucks
A night of death, and destiny
The Reesor Crossing Tragedy
The Reesor Crossing Tragedy

"You'll never touch this pile of lumber"
Seven words that spelled out pain
For the widows and their children
And their men who died in vain

How can anyone forget the bloodiest labor battle yet
In all Canadian history?
The Reesor Crossing Tragedy
The Reesor Crossing Tragedy

Just a little bit west of Kapuskasing
They erected a sculpture beside the tracks
Of the bushman and his family
Who live their lives behind the axe

It reminds us in the North
Not to bring out tempers forth
That there may never elsewhere be
No Reesor Crossing Tragedy
No Reesor Crossing Tragedy
No Reesor Crossing Tragedy

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) I was lucky enough to see Jeff Lynne and ELO live a week ago and it was a really good show. They've always been my favorite and have such a unique sound.

I'll also throw in a great Canadian band SAGA.
