TheGamer: A Persona 4 Remake Is Looking Likelier By The Minute

that's what I mean

it's more complex than "this is a gay character" which is pretty much all a modern westerner industry imploding localizer would see

There's other stuff too that might cause some issues in modern day - Hanako, some of Yosuke's behavior towards the girls in the group, etc. Thing is, if they're going to remake it, I'd prefer that they don't alter things in a misguided attempt not to offend anyone.

OT but related to the game - I'm currently playing through Golden. Started it and the original several times but never finished which I'm aiming to change this time. I have a question for you, Danjin44 Danjin44 , or anyone who wants to weigh in:

What do you make of Mitsuo's shadow disappearing? I get the sense that he'll forever be bound by his delusions and immaturity with no chance of becoming self-aware or maturing. But, according to the rules set by the game (shadow becomes aggressive and attacks if denied), why was it different in his case?

No worries if you don't want to discuss, just thought I'd ask since I find that part a bit perplexing.

I think because Shadow part you that you dont want to see and you rejected, still deep down you know the truth you just dont want to face it.

With Mitsuo's case, his delusion is so strong that his no longer sees the truth.

At least thats my take, I dont know thats true or not.

This was my introduction into the series, got the Vita just for the Golden edition. Such a great game, but honestly seems alittle soon for a remake. I'm not sure how you impprove near perfection. The characters are perfect as they are and no changes required to suit anyone.

Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I think Persona 6 has the potential to surpass 10M copies sold within just a few year.
Don't forget that P5 has the sales it does because of having an extremely staggered release. The first version on the PS3 and PS4. Then Royal on the PS4. Then Royal on the PS5. Then ports to the Switch and PC. A LOT of double dipping on the way to that, guaranteed.

I honestly don't think the real ceiling for a Persona game is 10 million. More like 6 or 7.

After Metaphor, I'm kinda wary of the writing/direction they'll go in.
I personally liked the story and characters in Metaphor but even then Hashino is moved one from Persona series.

Persona 6 is going to be made by different team.

Yeah and also, P6 is probably been in development for quite some time, so Metaphor shouldn't be able to influence it that much... maybe?

I really hope my worries won't turn out true, but see how many people praised Metaphor's heavy handed approach to an already overdone subject matter for example. I wouldn't exactly be surprised if Atlus thinks this kind of approach is what's en vogue now.

Thats has more to do with Hasino's style of story telling this was also the case with Persona 5 in subject of "corrupt adults with power".

You seem to be more knowledgeable in regards to certain people's influence on these projects than I am, but I HEAVILY disagree with the assessment that the approach in P5 was anywhere near to close as heavy handed as in Metaphor.

In Metaphor, basically every second sentence is "please don't forget how bad racism is, okay?".

I mean like it or not entire core story of Mepharor is about race and different class system between races...I'm not gonna say Hashino is perfect in story telling especially compare to George Kamitani but I personally enjoyed Metaphor's story, flawed as it is.

Looking forward to it, Persona 4 is still my favorite. I like the gameplay improvements and music the best from 5, but enjoy the setting, story and characters more from 4.

I hope they do another Persona with a non-urban setting in future.

P4 is my fav.

Also just to add whilst the Golden release is pretty nice, the extra stuff at the end makes the game drag on by like 10 hours, whilst the original was perfect.

Ain't no way they won't touch it. Twitter, Reddit and Era are still seething about this.

To be fair, since it's mandatory to be fucking retarded in order to use these shithole platforms in the first place, it's not surprising that no one there got what Naoto's storyline and internal conflict is all about and just went with "this is fucking anti-trans Nazi bullshit".

I assume we'll get Persona 6 and then this
I'm glad I held off on playing P4 until the Remake
Don't hold off! its an amazing game even today. Play the PC version right now and when the new one eventually does come out it would be an awesome experience to enjoy the new coat of paint and modern features.

And speaking of 'Modern', as others have said there's a couple of complex characters/themes that the game goes through that wouldn't really translate well with the 'modern' mainstream shitty media. I don't want to spoil it but it is done very well in the game, its related to 2 characters: Naoto and Kanji.

''Midori'' called it forever ago so team believe, but im still waiting for P6. I was kinda dissapointed in Metaphor after waiting for it so long, just because it ended up persona reskin

Persona 3 is a pretty low effort remake. There are a lot of areas where I feel like they could have done a better job. Not being able to fast forward through all out attacks and theurgy attacks makes the game more of a slog. And the transition screens are massively annoying for this level of graphics. I feel like they must have still used the original game's code base or something, because a modern game could have probably been essentially open world.

I think they should aim to release at least 1 persona game a year.

2025 - Persona 4
2026 - Persona 6
2027 - Persona 1 Remake
2028- Persona 2 Remake
2029 - Persona 7

Maybe throw Metaphor 2 in there somewhere and that takes you to 2030.
With Persona 6 taking a decade since 5 to come out, there's no way that 7 will launch just three years after 6.

When Sega says "we want yearly Persona, Like a Dragon and Sonic releases", that includes spin-off titles such as Persona Dancing, Arena, Strikers, Tactica and the expanded re-release of the main game, as well as Ishin!, The Man Who Erased His Name and Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and Sonic X Shadow Generations or Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, in the case of the Like a Dragon and Sonic series, respectively.

Which is all to say that Persona 7 won't be coming out any earlier than 2032.

Persona 3 came out in 2006 and Persona 4 came out in 2008... This was after a 7 year gap between Persona 2 and 3.

It comes down to what your priorities are.

Can't wait for a whole new generation of persona fans who have never played the game, but think they are the core of the fanbase because they drew 'fan' art, or watched a streamer play it.

Seriously, fuck atlus, persona, and persona 'fans'.

Yeah. There are people who still think Kanji is gay. Like did they pay attention to the story?

There is also all the jokes that Yosuke does. How will they get around that in a remake to "modern" audiences.

I played through Golden and had fun but the graphics are too dated. Could do with a remake to bring it up to the level of 3R + 5R not just in terms of graphics but gameplay QoL changes.

4 is my least favourite but still an amazing game of course and would definitely buy a remake.

This is hardly evidence but of course they are working on 4's remake, it's free money for them. If I had to put money on it I think we'd see 4 remake in early/mid 2026 followed by 6 in 2027.

Persona 4 holds a special place in my heart, I had always ignored jrpgs until a friend convinced me to pick it up on Vita. Lead me to discover some of my favorite games

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
For anyone revisiting Persona 4 now, my personal preference is playing the original via emulation over Golden for multiple reasons.

- I do not like Chie and Teddy's voice recast.
- Marie, as a character, is kinda poor and her removal from the game changes nothing, unlike Kasumi from P5 Royal, who feels like a key character.
- In bringing over the game to Vita, they butchered a lot of the aesthetic design, the fog is removed in most places, the texture and asset quality also takes a hit, unfortunately this is the version all future releases are based on with AI upscaling on the textures.

Top OG P4 via meulation
Bottom Golden in higher res

You can see the OG still looks more aesthetically pleasing.

There's a mod WIP for restoring the PS2 level of fog to the Golden, but it doesn't do much about the texture changes.

I'm actually all for it. After playing P3 remake, I wouldn't mind going thru enhanced version of P4. Hopefully it will be based on P4G then some.
One thing I hope is to fix the platinum requirement. As much as I don't mind Rise - but hearing every single comments she makes? :(
(And that was only thing I didn't achieve on my last playthru... and probably will never do...)

P4 was ok but the rumors were they were deciding between remaking 2 and 4 and I'll be disappointed if they choose 4 over 2

P3 was the last good Persona as far as story goes
