Trilogy Battle: Back to the Future vs Indiana Jones

Back to the Future! Temple of Doom is an unforgiveable movie.

BTTF and Indiana Jones are both before my childhood though...the best trilogy originating in my childhood is Toy Story which shits on both of those.

I'm fond of BTTF but Raiders is just about the most perfect movie put on film that it can easily coast to victory in this matchup on its own momentum despite the unevenness of the 2nd and 3rd movies dragging it down a bit. I'll take one Raiders to the entire BTTF trilogy.

Indiana Jones hands-down but I love BttF 1 and 2 as well. Raiders of the Lost Ark is as perfect a movie I'll ever see.

I know we're not counting Crystal Skull and I don't want to derail the thread, but that movie gets an undeserved amount of hate. It's pretty damn fun.

Jones. I can't fucking stand BTTF2, except for the Cafe '80s scene. I'll gladly sit through all of Temple of Doom for the rope bridge scene. Also, Last Crusade FTW.

WTF is going on in this thread and with the Temple hate? The film is awesome and 100% worthy of the Indy title. Mystery, action, acting, atmosphere are all top-notch! Yes I understand this is Neogaf but goddamn.

By the way, not many people know this, but Temple actually takes place BEFORE the first movie! That's right! You can thank me later.

Indy hands down.

BTTF is fun and all, but Indy is way more interesting a character to me and I enjoy the tension and perils he finds himself in much more than the time travel buggabaloo found in BTTF.

edit: And Temple is hated on way too much. after a recent re-watch a little while ago, I think it stands up as a great entry in the franchise.

NO TIME FOR LOVE, DR JONES!

Short Round, annoying female lead, campy dialogue (even for the 80s), so much is awful about that movie. I was rewatching it with my housemates earlier this year and while we enjoyed the other two, we simply couldn't finish watching Temple. To me it really is that bad of a movie. My favourite of the Indy movies is Last Crusade, and I don't really get the love for Raiders...it was a serviceable movie but the ending just seemed like SUCH a cop out, kinda like Crystal Skull...I still like Crystal skull more than Temple though.

Indy for me.

But if we're excluding shitty last entries we could also exclude the shitty last entry in the BTTF series, in which case there might actually be competition at that point. The first two entries from both series are incredibly strong films. Both third entries had issues (though Indy's is better IMO). And Crystal Skull... I almost enjoyed it, but it's crap.

I dunno, I guess I really disliked BTTF3, especially after how awesome 2 was.

Hey someone else who loves BttF2! I don't know why most people dislike it. I preferring it to the first movie. Anyway, I've gotta go watch Temple of Doom again...it can't be as bad as some people are claiming it is

How about the bridge scene for iconic?

Temple of Doom also had the single best piece of music in the series:

And this highly perceptive youtube comment:

"That scene where Willie says: "Lets get out of here' and Indy says: "Yeah, all of us."
Then this theme kicks in, and you see Indy's silhouette, then close up, then the guard gets decked.
Epic. Best scene in all four films. I get goose bumps thinking about it."

Fucking YES.

I am part of the Temple of Doom >>> Ark/Crusade Crowd, all the way.

They have absolutely nothing in common. One isn't even a fucking trilogy. :/ This is a generic dumb versus topic with the mentality of "Silent Hill or Ape Escape?"

Why is it being treated as an exception? :lol

It is a really close call not sure which one I like better. But why the hate for Temple of Doom? Temple of Doom is boss.

I'm not foolish enough to say that Temple is a better movie overall than Raiders. Raiders is pretty much adventure perfection.

But I will say I enjoy watching Temple of Doom more often and it is my favorite.

Yeah. I can't really see what's so offensive about the movie.

It was closer to what the original Indy trilogy tried to do, to bring back the old adventure serials to life. Heck, if you watch it in black and white, it looks exactly like them!

Kate Capshaw screaming the whole movie sucked. So annoying.

The story seemed weak. But I have to say that may be because I am not familiar with Hindu mythology.

I didn't know Capshaw was annoying, I thought it was pretty funny.

And the story wasn't weak, it was streamlined. There was no mystery to solve, it was all about saving the slaves and escaping the temple. It was definitely very strong emotionally.

You don't have to be familiar with the Hindu mythology at all to enjoy it. It's a very different type of movie than the other three, but that's why people like it. It didn't make Indy to be a stubborn archeologist, it made him a hero.

Temple was every cool theme park ride rolled into one. Dark ride, the fun house, roller coaster, the water slide, bungee drop, bumper cars, hell it had it all.

Not saying it was a better made movie than the others, but it is my favorite by far.

Maybe you misread by intro post. The point wasn't to compare 2 similar series, it was simply to ask people which they preferred as they were popular movies that came out around the same time. That's why I didn't count Crystal Skull, because it obviously wasn't released ANYTIME near the other 6 movies.

Yes, this is a generic versus topic, although not nearly as random as the example you gave
