+Another 3
And another one:

Polished and confident, Dragon Age: The Veilguard feels like a return to form for the developer. Dragon Age: The Veilguard gives us a beautiful world to experience, interesting allies to explore it with, and action that grows increasingly more nuanced throughout.

And more:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a phenomenal return to form for BioWare. The story is well-paced and the cast of characters are the trademark BioWare staple of fully-realised, but it’s in the newly action-oriented combat where things truly shine.

And some more:
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a Dragon Age game like no other, and that alone will put some people off. But it brings with it the traditions of excellent character writing, strong world building through narrative quests, and offers the most exciting combat the series has ever seen. There is a stronger version of The Veilguard in here, one with more Solas and companion quests that find a more natural ending, but the one we’ve got is still a worthy successor to Dragon Age: Inquisition, and is a much needed return to form for BioWare.

+bonus (Checkpoint games who gave it 100)

What say we GAF, is this a return to form for games journalism?

Once YT guys took over giving more down to earth impressions and gameplay videos, traditional sites were dead.

And no game site crew will ever outdo YT gamers who specialize in games. Whether it’s a shooter, survival game, a guy doing map analysis and bullet spray testing etc….

Add it all up and your typical crew of writers at a game site looks archaic. They resemble something from a 1995 magazine than people using social media to give more genuine impressions.

I often dream of a day when game reviews have a return to form like they were 30 years ago.

But this is never happening due to the influx of blue-haired, fat slob cuck journos with a social agenda they need to ram down everyone's throat.

I do not read a single review anymore unless it is posted here, and when I read any excerpt of a review here, my brain cells commit suicide one by one.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I mean, it's a little weird that "return to form" shows up in all of the highlighted sections, though it's not like it's a particularly unusual term.

I think I'd focus more on the fact that games journalists have, for the most part, been clueless and haven't had a meaningful or valid opinion for well over a decade. It's not just this, it's that time and again, they've demonstrated a lack of context for how a game fits into the broader gaming culture, an inability to evaluate mechanics, a complete failure to offer critical analysis of writing or narrative design, and ultimately no appreciation for video games as being fun or enjoyable. And frankly - every time they say something even outside of that context, they come across as clueless dipshits who can't cope with the real world. Those are the real issues.

Video games are really cool. I feel like journalists - who still affect the narrative around gaming to a pretty significant extent - really detract from that.

tl;dr: fuck 'em.

No this has been an ongoing issue for years and years, the ones who are new to this are the ones trying to attach it specifically to modern day culture wars.

Devs will touch grass on the way out of the office.

Why touch grass when we can point out and notice how much putrit gaming journalism has become?

Yet a mass-boycotted game like Hogwarts Legacy, that was the cause of so much outrage because of it's anti-trans creator, got higher critical reviews than Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Like seriously, go get some fresh air. Ya'll are falling for this paranoia filled culture-war bullshit that doesn't exist at even a fraction of the percent that you think it does in real life. It's just internet bullshit.

Is it the same AI writing all the reviews with just people's names attached to them, who didn't write a damn thing!.

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
That's a common phrase and it's common to think the last DA game(s) weren't as great as the first, so if folks agree that it's finally good once again, it's not exactly evidence of anything to use that one phrase.

However, Sony essentially bought all the media out in the 90s and completely changed the dynamics of the relationship between publications (now online and in different forms) and companies forever.

Good job waking up to the fact they're not your friends or just gamers or even in the know of their chosen field of work 30 years later (bad job linking it to anything new/recent you wanna damn).

Ironic you bring that up, since a bunch of those mainstream sites that are using the 'return to form' script, refused to review Hogwarts at all.

Making the slacktivist NPC movement that much more apparent.

Higher?

Veilgard is scoring 10 and 9 from some reviews.
Hogwarts theres literally people who refused to review this game and people reviewly badly with the purpose of defamation. We almost didn't had a DF tech review, it was the the boss from DF who had to step up. Seriously my dude, try harder.

My post doesn’t apply to your rebuttal.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a return to form for this once-lauded RPG studio that should satiate Dragon Age fans quite well after a decade-long wait. But returning to form and perfecting form are not the same thing. BioWare has plenty of room to regrow as it gets back on track making the kinds of games RPG fans want them to create.

That has to be the most negative positive spin on a review I have ever read. So, my take away based on this line is that Bioware did good, but it's not classic Bioware material. So its a pass for me.

Me not believing that there's a massive super-secret conspiracy that gaming journalists are being paid by corporations for good reviews and to spread woke propaganda but ONLY in certain games (because clearly EA must have forgotten to pay for those good reviews of Battlefield 2042, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Anthem, etc.. etc..) without a single ounce of evidence means I'm the one that needs to touch grass?

Let's see how it settles if more honest review coming in. The good reviews mostly come from the DEI press.

Since we know those professional journos are irrelevant, and we also know its their job, aka their living//bread depends on giving games from big publishers good/biased scores- the conclusion is only one- they got stake, extremly high stake in the games they reviewing to sell good, add 2 to 2 and now u know why even extremly terrible games like concord get 60+ meta, not to mention avg games like DA:V that maybe deserve 4 to 6/10, getting crazy bump from beign published by EA and promoting woke agenda.

Another thing to remember- only outlets with positive previews got the review codes, lets week or two after launch when actual independed ppl who actually had to buy their own game review it, then review score gonna fall down for sure, likely below 80 which is still crazy inflated.

TLDR: Imagine ur boss who can fire u at any time tells u to give something he cares about a review/score it- ofc u gonna praise it since thats the only way u can make bread, there is not even a 2nd thought in those half empty agenda infected journo's brains- they literally making a living this way- their sites/salaries depend on ad revenue and guess who is buying all that ad space on their sites- publishers of the games those sellout journos keep reviewing :)

Meristation from Spain couldn't even finish the Gollum game due to the game's bugs on PS5... And I did finish it and overcome the bugs of that shit 😂😂😂.

They are fragile in mind.

And who gets to decide if they're "honest"?
They didnt get free early review copy but actually had to pay 70usd/euro for the game, they will at least judge it from the perspective of actual gamer, since we all would have to pay for it too, on top their review score wont determine if publisher will buy ad space/send another review/preview codes in the future.

It doesnt make them automatically honest, ofc there is still capability of dishonestly like with all human beings, just professional journos who get free early review copies automatically get "dishonest" label, which means they are 100% biased and cant be taken seriously, thats huge difference.
