LOL, yeah that's their losing strategy that they can't seem to realize is why they are in the their present predicament, definition of madness 101, lol.

He raised that money by promising investors this. If he changes course now there's even more fallout on the money side. He's probably feeling more pressure there then from customers. Honestly, Ubi NEEDS a giant AAAA GaaS hit to stay afloat. They're in so deep that slowly clawing back with solid, AA single player games is no longer an option. It won't keep the lights on.

Released Flops

Xdefiant
Skull and Bones
Hyper Scale
Rainbow Six Extraction

Cancelled

Division Heartland
Ghost Recon Frontline
Project Q

Development Hell

Project U

And that's just off the top of my head

Ubisoft has released 58 games since Hyper Scape.
We don't know how many SP games they've cancelled.

We do know that Ubisoft has done the math and are going GAAS baby GAAS!

The bright spot of Ubisoft making continuously stupid decisions is they'll either get bought or sell their IP to other devs that will actually do something with it.

Dear Ubisoft,

Please sell the Splinter Cell IP to an independent publisher of your choosing.

Thanks.
Ubisoft to Splinter Cell fans:

"Please clone every Splinter Cell fan 10x and advance age them so it'll be worth it for us to make a new game in the franchise.

Thanks.

Nobody wants them to make a new game in the franchise.
Ubisoft sucks.
Splinter Cell would fare better in someone else's hands.

He wants to keep pursuing open world games and GAAS.

Well, the problem isn't with open-world games per se. The problem is Ubisoft's dead, unrealised, fake-feeling open world games, plus the fact that they shoehorn everything into that format for no good design reason whatsoever.

To be honest I can't see any different strategy viable for ubisoft with their large amount of workforce.

Maybe the only other one would to reduced cost drastically by cutting the majority of the workforce and turning the company private.

People get mad saying the guy's crazy but Ubisoft never hit the number with regular classic games. Even when it was cheaper to make.

As much as i would like them to make traditional games, that would be suicidal in this day and age.

Ofc i don't see them succeed with their strategy either, but i think it still makes more sense.

"We as a gaming company, who have been rapidly declining, year after year, at an astronomical rate with our brain dead decisions (and sexual abuse) so let's triple down and give the customers what they don't want" - Ubisoft

Remember when laser tag was their biggest embarrassing moment of the year?

Declaring that you will only give the people what they don't want is certainly a unique strategy.

Eh, people do actually buy Ubisoft's forever franchise open world games. Watch Dogs only stopped being successful because they split the fanbase into two segments, and then released Legion which was never going to appeal to either of them.

The live service stuff, I hate to say, is also not unfounded. At this stage in Ubisoft's lifecycle, given where it is based, that it is 3rd party publisher and how the hierarchy is set up, they're not in the exploratory phase or driven by visionaries; gamers have rewarded endless open world games despite however much people will pretend they're sick of it, and too many live services with ridiculous success not to tempt them.

The problem with this strategy is that Ubisoft open-world games have been mostly mid and their live-service games have been grossly mismanaged.
Also, does that mean that Rayman 4, which is in development right now, is gonna be open-world? I hope not.

Is Clint Hocking even doing anything? He did Splinter Cell, then led masterpiece of Chaos Theory, then did amazing Far Cry 2...then he wasted years at Valve and Amazon with nothing to show for it, then came back to Ubisoft, did underwhelming WD Legion...and since then, nothing

Come on Clint, give me at least one more great game
He's directing next year's Assassin's Creed "Codename Hexe" -- the one about witch hunts.

Yes keep doing this.

At some point you will succeed. Because reasons.

I keep saying it GAF. If we're patient we can club together and buy this thing for a thousand bucks. Then I'll sit back and the people here with dev experience can finally make me my Rayman Legends sequel!

Those days never existed lol.
What about

Splinter Cell
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
SplinterCell: Chaos Theory
Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed II
Assassin's Creed: Brotherood
Assassin's Creed: Unity
Rayman 2
Rayman 3
Rayman Origins
Rayman Legends
Beyond Good & Evil
World in Conflict
Anno 1800
Mario + Rabbids
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter
Far Cry 3
Driver: Parallel Lines

I mean, Ubisoft made a lot of good games in their history. They've even, after more than a fucking decade or so, have two games in development that are interesting to me:

Heroes of Might & Magic: The Olden Era
Anno 117
The Rayman game with Michel Ancel

There is no explanation for Ubi's situation. They know there is no water in the pool, but they still insist on diving in head first, higher and higher.
