I don't see why Gears3 and a Halo can't co-exist in the same half. Gears in Sept, Halo in Nov would be fine.

By that time it'll have been two years since the last Gears. I can't see them waiting three!

I would just assume that Microsoft would want to avoid any potential neutering of sales by releasing both in the same year, considering that Treyarch will have a Call of Duty game coming out that's likely to draw big sales from the same type of crowd, Microsoft might want to put all their effort onto one thing, so they can still have a big shooter lined up for next year as well. Both in one year is kind of throwing out all the punches a little too early, and Microsoft would inadvertently be competing with their selves.

I see this point, but on the flipside the base is growing and should be quite a bit bigger by then too.

I doubt very many of this 'crowd' would pick up one but skip the other either. I think you'd see a lot of dual-purchasing.

I dunno, it just seems odd to me that they'd go three years without a Gears outing.

I think MS said they consider Natal a new console launch, I wouldn't be surprised if Epic had something to support the new 'system'. I wonder if we'll see a Rare FPS game as well. I doubt that they'd put so much work into the Perfect Dark remake if there aren't any plans to continue the series in the near future.

Yeah, I imagine it'd work either way, I'm just assuming Microsoft will keep doing what they've always done, in that Gears is saved for those years where there's no Halo coming out.

That'll be hard considering they're releasing at least one Halo game a year now.

A new Perfect Dark at some point might happen (didn't they cancel a sequel just last year?), but I wouldn't be surprised if Reach would use Natal in some capacity. Having both Fable 3 and Reach using Natal would ensure that it would reach a massive part of the hardcore gamer community.

That animator wrote that both Kameo 2 and PDZ2 were cancelled in 2007. Rare is working hard on new games. Just recently they're looking for two new animators ASAP:
ANIMATOR

We are looking for two animators to start ASAP on a three-month contract, to be based at our studio in Twycross.

The role will involve a lot of facial animation in addition to motion capture clean up. Even though we are using motion capture, we still require individuals with good keyframe animation skills as some work will have to be keyframed.

Essential skills and requirements:

•Professional animation experience is a BIG plus.
•Must have a good working knowledge of Maya software.
•A strong animation showreel that shows an understanding of the principles of animation. We would like to see full body animation tests as well as a dialogue acting piece.
•We are looking for great facial animation.
•At least six months experience in motion capture clean up.
Those doesn't seem like requirements for a 'simple' Natal game.

Rare will do more then simpel casual stuff, no doubt about that. But I can't personally see a place for Perfect Dark in the market. Microsoft already has Gears and Halo, plus third party stuff like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty is crowding up the big AAA shooter box.

Personally I would be happy to see them do something truely unique, and create new experiences, and perhaps genres, based around Natal instead of forcing a old PD2 concept into Natal.

Where's the list of countries?

Take-Two's game seems to be a Spec Ops reboot. You'll remember this series as a group of budget line games for the PlayStation 1 that averaged Metacritic ratings between 30 and 50.
I know I'm a little late here, but did anyone else completely lose faith in this industry after reading this sentence?

Spec-Ops was very popular - even though they were "low quality". Though this was long before Modern Warfare and Rainbow 6

I'm probably late but ffs, Geoff Keighley calling Reach game of the year for 2010 based on some footage he's seen? How biased is that? I didn't like Halo 3 and felt it was incredibly overrated (just my opinion, no one has to share it) and Reach might look amazing but that doesn't mean it's OK for a gaming journalist to hype a game at the expense of other 2010 games when he hasn't played any of them to finish.

Gaming journalism for the really frickin' loose.

Considering how successful Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3 have been, Reach (essentially Halo 4) is bound to have high expectations, and I wouldn't be surprised that Geoff was given some additional nuggets of info, more than enough to indicate that Reach will do just as well if not better than it's predecessors.

Any year Halo comes out, it's pretty much rules them all.

If we are talking sales numbers, what about GT5? What about whatever huge Nintendo Wii game coming out next year? What about the possible next IW COD on multiplatforms (last one sold huge numbers)?

It's not right to be biased as a journalist and saying that no other game has a chance to win game of the year. It's the pure definition of being biased. It's way stepping across the line. As a journalist, if there is such a thing in this industry, you are to report objectively and give everyone an equal fighting chance until it's your turn to give your opinion on a final product.

He's basically penciled in a 9+ score 9-11 months before the game is even out. That's the definition of a fanboy, not people who object to biased statements.

Every developer should have an equal fighting chance and not have to deal with the press focusing on a single game and calling it a winner before the race has even begun. You don't think that's dodgy? It's like propaganda.

Maybe he's hedging his bets on historical expectations? Big budget game, long development history, solid AAA developer, massive marketing budget and millions of guaranteed sales.

It's like not expecting MW2 to sell millions and be GOTY for many. It has and is. Same for Reach.

And besides, you are going too deeply into the rabbit hole.

he's just hype-mongering for his show. it's not the most admirable thing in the world, but it's not, you know, corruption.

it's pretty harmless, don't over-think it.

But most people are arguing that Uncharted 2 is the GOTY this year. It has the highest Metacritic ranking. Who would have seen that coming?

So calling out bias when there's really no defense is being crazy?

If you are at the forefront of gaming and a major part of the community, you don't think you have an obligation to give everyone the same fighting chance? I wouldn't have mind so much if he didn't call it next year's GOTY. There are plenty of GOTY candidates coming out next year.

FFX13 (especially in sales)? I mentioned Gran Turismo 5, prologue sold nearly 4 million copies and has historically reached 10 million with each full release?

I'm glad you guys give Geoff such an easy pass, I am sure all the other AAA developers out there working hard on their next 2010 title feels good about that.

Anyway, I just wanted to express my opinion. If you guys think it's ok, then who am I. I'm leaving it at this if I am the only one who thought it was bad taste.

They even seem to have the full trailer, or at least an early rendition of it.

That is absurd. Make a new IP.

He didn't say it would be the *best* game of 2010 (or goty), he said it would be the biggest.
The trailer he saw is probably spectacularly done and is fortelling of not just how good the game experience will be, but how well they will market it.
The push for it, and the anticipation for it will be tip top, just like the prior games.

What magnifies it even moreso this go-round is the fact that Reach is effectively going to be Halos 'Modern Warfare' in the sense that its a technical revamp.

He's not talking about sales, and honestly, Wii-fit 2 or Wii-sports 2 will outsell everything..so what?
Totally different playerbases.

FFX13 (especially in sales)? I mentioned Gran Turismo 5, prologue sold nearly 4 million copies and has historically reached 10 million with each full release?

Who knows what FF13 and GT5 will sell? Between the PS3's userbase being much smaller than the PS2's and the average sales reception jrpgs have been getting this gen, it's no guarantee either one of these games will even be one of the biggest sellers in 2010, much less have 'historically (PS2) accurate' sales.

You're right, Prologue sold almost 4 mil since holiday 2007 at $40, which is great.
ODST just sold almost 4 mil in 2 and a half months at $60 a pop, before Christmas.
Halo Reach will outsell anything geared toward the 'hardcore' playerbase in 2010.

If Halo was multiplaform, this conversation of "what about ___" wouldnt even exist at this point.

What you can be sure of, is that "any AAA developers out there working hard on their next 2010 titles" will, very respectfully, stay the fuck out of Halos Reach's way come 4th quarter next year.

any chance of Valve making a showing?
Well, on one hand, their release schedule has been pretty consistent lately:
RecentReleases said:
* 2004
o Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
o Half-Life: Source
o Half-Life 2
o Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
o Counter-Strike: Source

* 2005
o Day of Defeat: Source
o Half-Life 2: Lost Coast

* 2006
o Half-Life 2: Episode One
o Half-Life Deathmatch: Source

* 2007
o The Orange Box (compilation)
o Half-Life 2: Episode Two
o Portal
o Team Fortress 2

* 2008
o Left 4 Dead

* 2009
o Left 4 Dead 2
On the other hand, I'd imagine they'd wait until E3 to unveil anything as their last game literally came out less than a month ago.

"We definitely have some pretty major surprises still to come," he tells me. "Essentially, the biggest thing in the show hasn't even been announced yet."

http://www.destructoid.com/keighley-the-biggest-spike-vga-reveal-has-yet-to-come-157597.phtml

Bigger than Halo Reach. Heard it here first folks. Some of my guesses for reveals would be something from Sony, perhaps Twisted Metal or Syphon Filter, maybe Agent. On the MS side perhaps Gears 3 or that other Epic game, Nano.strike (totally could be multi-platform) or possibly the multi EA/Epic title. I doubt Nintendo brings Zelda to the table, but ya never know. Or maybe even the next Elder Scrolls although I highly doubt it.

It's probably the trailer to the next Call of Duty game. Even if it's not a MW CoD, the brand itself is still massive. And while to many here it won't be a big deal, to the general public you can't get much bigger than CoD at the moment.

You think they would really drop the next COD during December? I was thinking at least Spring to E3 time period.

It's a possibility. I was just thinking of a game that's bigger than HALO, since Geoff says the biggest thing hasn't been announced yet. There aren't very many games bigger than HALO. Unless he's just talking specifically about really hardcore gamers, in which case many games are a possibility. But to the average person watching that show, i'd imagine HALO will be the biggest thing that they show unless CoD is shown off.

None of the Named games are bigger the Halo Reach(except MAYBE Zelda). The list of games bigger then Halo nowadays is pretty small, new Mario? Already shown. It would take a Wii XXXX game or the mentioned Zelda game to even have a chance.

formal release and pricing announcement for Natal and or Sony's wand for the US ?
He said on that link (http://www.destructoid.com/keighley-the-biggest-spike-vga-reveal-has-yet-to-come-157597.phtml) there won't be anything on Dead Space 2, Natal, or Sony's wand. However, he doesn't deny Gears 3 :eek:
One reveal you won't be seeing, as some have guessed, is the recently announced Dead Space 2. Keighley quickly put his foot down on that one saying "it's not at the show and wasn't planned to be at the show." Don't expect to see anything from Microsoft on Project Natal, or even Sony's motion controller, codenamed "Gem," either.

But what of other quiet Internet chatter that perhaps Epic would be revealed Gears of War 3?

"What I can say on that," he says after some hesitation. "There are some I can't confirm or deny. What I can say is that I think some people saw our original publisher list and were speculating what games could be a part of that."
