It's 8 ET, which is really annoying since it means that I'll be trying to keep an eye on the CBC Hockey game while streaming this from my laptop while hitting F5 on the boards here.

Actually, it was Luke Smith who beat that drum first...at least as far as the podcast is concerned.

Surprised those "Luke Was Right" t-shirts haven't been selling better. His batting average has been a fuckton better than anyone else's in recent memory.

It better be something good. To be "the biggest thing ever" it better be something we don't expect like a FFVII remake, but that won't happen. If it's Call of Duty from Treyarch, I'll be disappointed. I want a real surprise not something we all know is coming.

It has to be really unexpected and exciting because Reach is the biggest thing ever.

It's most likely Gears 3. There was an article yesterday where he said that they wouldn't show something about Sony's controller, NATAL ect. but he wouldn't comment on whether or not they were showing Gears 3.

Gears 1 - November 2006
Gears 2 - November 2008

Gears 3 in November 2010 with Halo Reach in the same quarter would be absolutely huge for the 360...especially since Sony have a lot of their big guns coming out in 2010.

That would make sense. Epic didn't mention Gears 3 at E3 and there's no way Shadow Complex took the whole company to develop. I love Gears and all, but I just don't know how excited I would be to see Gears of War 3 announced tonight.

Shadow Complex was made by Chair. I just think Epic bought them at the GDC.

Because if Microsoft does it right Reach might sell better than MW2 so what would be the point of another exclusive game getting in the way of that.

Same. I'm hoping the Leafs build up a massive lead so I can ignore the game for a while. Or go in a massive hole, but the first is preferred.

Geoff better not be fucking with everyone though, he overhypes stuff too much.

To Geoff's credit, he hasn't said there will be some sort of paradigm shifting, game changer announcement. There is no E3 level of hype here. Just a pleasant surprise. I'm assuming we'll see something like Rage.

It doesn't really matter when they announce something like that. They can just show some small teaser like they did when Gears 2 was unveiled and then show the real thing at E3.

I think he means God of War III, Gran Turismo and and... um. Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian don't count as "big guns," I'm pretty sure, so I don't know what else.

I might be remembering wrong, but I thought the big surprise super secret announcement last year was the ever so shocking reveal of Modern Warfare 2.

Gears of War 3 look like Keighley's surprise. Shame it ain't surprise enough for GAF because we know it will coming. Only way to blow GAFs mind is something like Gears also come to PS3.

Having Reach and Gears 3 side by side would be insane. They are the two biggest IP's Microsofts got, and they will eat into each others market and none of the titles will sell as well as if they were released in seperat years.

Plus, it's always been Gears and Halo in different years. Microsoft would be incredibly stupid to launch a entirely new Gears game on top of the biggest Halo game to date.

I think you're right and I'm just remembering incorrectly because the hype for that surprise announcement was also based on something Geoff said (on Twitter).

Halo 3 + CoD4 in fall 2007 and Gears 2 + WaW all sold very well.

If they release Reach in September, Gears 2 in October and the next CoD in November I'd be surprised if any of those games' sales would be markedly worse than usual.

well Microsoft don't control Gears , and Epic need to release something huge next year after a year of nothing , if anything let MS Release Reach in mid/late summer or something.

but huge side by side releases are fine , they can release Reach game in October and Gear 3 in September before COD WaW2 ( or whatever COD ) in November, it's all rights I guess.
