The "surprise" was what happens at the very end of the Reach trailer. He wasn't referring to something separately.

He also said based on that trailer Reach was going to be the GOTY of 2010, something I thought was pretty shitty considering objectivity and all that... I liked the trailer, but really?

He's a decent presenter with a positive attitude and interviews people well. He did build up the hype, comparing this VGA to E3 in terms of announcements etc. so that is somewhat shitty. I would think the majority of viewers would agree, not just "hardcore" gamers.

I liked most of the awards. Only one that differ is Flower winning. Trials HD so deserved it. I still loved all the hating on it prior, minute people got to play it. OMG this is so awesome and hardcore. :lol

Outside of that I liked what I saw for the most part

Still haven't seen any the trailers yet. Watching them now ^_^

Crackdown 2 looked pretty bad. I do realize it's supposed to be a zany, off the wall, larger than life game, and this trailer showed that, but on the other hand, there wasn't anything really there that compelling, and it looked really low tech.

It very easily could have just been a poorly designed trailer, but my first reaction was to think: Budget priced?

Was it pre-rendered?
I bet using in game engine. It was way to clean. Other ingame cutscenes in games usually have flaws and that trailer was flawless. I know it wasn't real time at all, it has to be cleaned up.

I might be wrong but until gameplay footage is shown I doubt this trailer was real time.

I think I'm just gonna watch the trailers online and avoid the show. The winners were so predictable :| However, I'm absolutely baffled at DG:O winning Best RPG.

I'm not, the only other real contender there was Demon's Souls and I personally wouldn't have picked that over DA:O either.

My guess is that it's using a different rendering technique for cut scenes, sort of like what Gran Turismo does for replays. Meaning, not representative of gameplay, for graphics, texturing, resolution and framerates.

Probably this, as Halo 3's cutscenes improved everything except for framerate, texturing, and resolution.

Thats actually all ingame.
Geoff Keighley said it was all in game but then again, he is the false hype monster and definitely can't be trusted. His track record is not very good.

I just checked out the trailers a second time and I love Spec Ops, Medal of Honor, and Batman. Spec Ops gave me a Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now vibe. I really hope that's the direction the story goes in. Hell, I hope the bad guy's name is Kurtz. Medal of Honor looked impressive. I love COD and hope MOH plays similarly, just more realistic. As for Batman, the trailer gave off a No Man's Land feel, one of the best Batman storylines. Saw Sionis printed on a sign so hopefully Black Mask will be heavily featured this time.

None of the other trailers stood out. Crackdown 2 seemed a little weak. Reach was about as boring as a trailer could get. Force Unleashed 2 was ok, but I'm anxious to see some gameplay.

Twice bitten, thrice shy.

I am very glad flower got a nod. It would be a shame for it to be lost in the q4 shuffle when it comes to rewards etc.

Is there a place to watch the actual awards acceptances? They're taking them off Youtube apparently. It's a shame that this show is all about the trailers and not about the awards themselves. Apart from one or two upsets (Jack Black) most of them actually went to the right games this year.

Kinda dissapointed Rockstar didn't show off Agent, but I guess they'll save that for E3 or something. Pretty annoying show regardless, :lol

i guess all and all it wasn't all that bad

Pros:
SpecOps
MOH
Reach
Batman sequel
Force Unleashed 2

Cons:
every single thing about the presentation

Fucking bullshit.

1. Mark Hamill
2. Nolan North
3. Claudia Black
4. Arleen Sorkin
5. Jack Black

Spike does not know greatness. They did it for the rating so that jack black can be funny on stage.
Agreed. Nolan North or Mark Hamill should've won this. What a waste.

Sorry is there a sum up of the awards/what was show?

Unfortunately the stream was very lagging so I only caught the part when Jack Black won Best Voice (WTF? no way, embarrassing) but maybe it was a good thing I diidn't get to see the rest... flOwer won an award? Fuck yeah, well deserved.

The trailers are all here: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/spike-tv-video-game-awards/12349

As for the awards, unfortunately I wasn't paying much attention to remembering what won.

I have no interest in the awards whatsoever (other than to hear people on podcasts bitching about them :D ) but it was nice to get a new round of trailers/announcements in December. With all the big releases there's been no good announcements for too long!

Jack Black should NOT have won best voice actor.

The nominees for most of the categories were safe and the winners were mostly safe as well, so nothing shockingly wrong except for best voice actor.

What the fuck? Wolverine won 2 awards?

And where is Nolan Norths/Mark Hamils award? Jack Black seriously? I love Brütal Legend, and yes his VO was great but Mark Hamil and Nolan North had better performances.

I'm glad Uncharted 2 won game of the year though. Also the trailers were one big dissapointment. Arkham Asylum 2 is VERY nice though.

And where is my Dead Space 2 dammit!?

Jack Black should've won for the "human male"(wtf does that mean) category, which was the celebrity thing obviously

Nolan should've taken the best voice actor award, he did an incredible job in Uncharted 2. Really one of the few bits of voice acting in any game that I'd describe as iconic

They obviously designed it so a developer/game wouldn't be featured twice on stage

Yeah, but logic wise it makes no sense. Don't get me wrong, I love UC2 and I didn't play ACII, so no bias there, but I think the show design is flawed...

Glad I didn't repeat the mistake of last year and stay up for this one.
Looking at who won awards they seemed to spread the love around fairly equally and most of the big games won a least one award.

Trailers were a bit of a disappointment again however I was really impressed with the new Medal of Honour trailer (easily the best of the bunch) and Crackdown 2 looked nice as well :D

A lot of people seem genuinely pissed off that certain games did not win certain awards from one of the most commercial awards show ever.
I am so glad I didn't watch it. Sounds like awful awful television.
