Sure it does, it's no different than buying any other dlc, the real money purchase is tied to the platform, because the platform holder takes a cute and thus provides the license that enables the real money purchase to be used and thus that licence only exists on that platform; to unlock the content on a different platform that platform holder has to provide its licence, which means they need their cut.
Nothing gets tied to your cross-platform in game profile with a real money purchase, it's locked to the platform unless the publisher pays for the extra licence.

Seems like a publisher issue, not a customer issue.

Also I don't really believe that it can be done easily with fake currency, wouldnt they need to pay the other party as well? And if not, why would they when it's real money? In the end it comes down to the exact same thing. A currency is used.

It's not a publisher issue, it's the platform holders, but it even goes beyond platform holders because taxes and laws regarding money transfer are involved.

And of course they wouldn't need to pay the other platform when fake currency is used, this is why you need to make an account/profile that's tied to the publisher, the currency isn't used to make a purchase via the platform holder, the currency is given after the platform holder has received its payment and grants the licence to the account you have on the platform, then the currency is used to unlock the content on the publishers side, tying it to the account/profile you made with the publisher; the content itself doesn't exist on the platform, there's no store page for the content, nor any means to purchase it from them, so there are no licences to give out by the platform holder, or cut for them to take, you can only buy/licence the currency and the in-game store with the actual content is completely publisher side, this allows the content to follow the consumer across platforms as long as you are using the publisher's account/profile

My kids don't spend limitless money on games because they can't.. simple as that .. but when I do want to reward them with some Roblox or Fortnite money I want to be able to do so. Not get a screen that says " oh you are over your monthly allow government spending limit .. sorry "

That's not what they are saying, not at all. Did you even read the OP and the linked articles/tweets?

What they are proposing is that there is more transparency and fairness around pricing for in-game purchases, particularly if that purchase first requires a conversion in to a game currency.

So what it would result in is you still being able to purchase Roblox crap for your kids.

Hmm well seems like a bunch of bullshit they can easily solve.

I dont believe for one second none of this can work without fake currencies.

I'm not saying I'm the foremost expert of the zeitgeist on this shit, but kids have certainly been trained to think getting in-game currency, like Robux, is cool, thereby becoming a way to measure 'status' in the school yard.

What receipts? The execution shows the result, content bought on a platform has always and will always be tied to that platform because that's how the platform holder makes money, giving licences for use, and as mentioned, taxes and money transfer laws make it even more complex to transcend the platform; the content not being available on the platform in any way shape or form, completely circumvents all of this, since now the publisher is just unlocking the content for you, the platform holder is not involved in this process, they are only involved with purchases on their platform.
As my example mentioned, the average bundle price in CoD is 2400cp, and you can purchase this amount exactly, so there's literally no downside while you get to benefit from taking the content to any other platform as well, if this was a real money purchase, that becomes impossible, making the real money purchase a literal downgrade.

So again believe what you will, but as mentioned the problem is not the currency itself, since if used properly it comes with only upsides, the problem is how the content is priced vs how much currency you need to buy to get the content.

I don't know how much more I could break it down for you bruv.
The store is owned by the store owner, the store owner makes money by taking a cut from every item sold, and since it's real money, taxes and laws apply.
Once the item is sold, the store keeps a record of who is allowed to use the item, other stores obviously do not have this record.
This item can be anything, a full game, additional content, a wallpaper, or fake currency. The store doesn't discriminate what it sells, as long as it gets a cut.
So now the consumer has a record of fake currency from the store; this is where the store's involvement ends wholesale.
Now with this record the consumer contacts the manufacturer, and says "I want these items you are offering on your own store, I have this much currency".
The manufacturer then unlocks these items for you and keeps its own record of this happening.
Now wherever you go where the manufacturer is they can see, "yes, we have a record of you having access to this, go ahead"; no other stores are accessed for this, it comes purely from the manufacturer.

I agree it does smell like bs. Dead by daylight was able to grant you licenses to content you bought with real money on one platform, to all platforms, so I don't buy that they can't for a second. It might've? been a one time thing when cross progression happened, but it still happened.

Because fake money contains the same value across the board and l doesn't change value.

Nothing Holds REAL MONEY except banks. Even the money you have left over on psn and Ms store is just CREDITS. Robucks or credits it's the same.

I thought this was common.

Yep, the fact that the purchase of these currencies don't round in a way that you can use all of them in a single transaction is one of the biggest offenses for me.
Seriously. Schemes where items cost 300 or 400 in-game bux but the lowest increment you can buy is 500 is just sleazy. I can live with MTX for items, but they should be listed at an actual selling price in local currency and not some custom thing that the developers made up. These companies should also have to refund people who have bought in-game currency and weren't able to use it all.

Ingame currency is such fucking bullshit. It should be gotten rid of.

Imagine spending 7€ to buy 250 fighter coins in Street Fighter 6. You can only buy them in increments

  • 250 Fighter Coins = $6.99.
  • 610 Fighter Coins = $11.99.
How much does a character cost though?

350 fighter coins

So 610 will only get you one, and 250 will get you none

Type of shit that just gets me to walk away from a whole game. Even if I was never gonna buy any DLC, I just lose interest doing business with such asshats. Games are just for fun, that shit isn't fun it's depressing.
