Assuming the next Xbox is a machine that can also load steam, it will be a game changer.

gaming Subscription services and game steaming will eventually take over physical game sales just like it does with music and f movies/tv series right now.

Digital downloads, subs and streaming are the future.

Regularly Paying user accounts matters more than the hardware to console manufacturers in 2025 and beyond.

Capitalism is ruining development. Consumers just buy the titles and not good products. Nothing is new or innovative anymore. Development is “good enough” because people will buy the products anyway. It doesn’t need to be good or different. Once it builds up a fan base they can pass the product around like a used up hooker with less effort. Example Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 built up a fan base to the point it didn’t need a high production team like the Final Fantasy team. Pass it to the lower budget team to keep the money flowing. Silent Hill doesn’t need abstract or psychological horror anymore. Just dress it up in horror with fog, light source, a generic contorted monster with some overused inner fears BS. Slap the title on and you are good to go. Maybe throw in some anime because Western folks are obsessed with Japan. Easy. No thought. Everyone has a phone. Let’s make a phone title. Consumers will buy it anyway.

Halo 4 is in my top three for halo games. there I said it. (and to add salt to the wound, i consider odst to be overrated in the halo community)

The open world Zelda games are trash, have nothing in common with Zelda games, and completely ruined the series.
Judging from a ton of the responses here whenever zelda is involved, this isnt the hot take you may think it is.

A rule of thumb I go by: anything with a sequel is designed to be milked. Corporations latch on to formulas and game play loops they see worthy of cash cows.

If you want a game that doesn't feel by-the-numbers, it's the games that have no sequels; or, just don't buy the sequels. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I don't care about FPS so long as I can get through the campaign without crashing. Jericho on PS3 is unplayable for most; to me, 🤷‍♂️

I don't use any mods when playing older PC games.

Phil ? Is that you ?

5. Rockstar Games is a pos developer for not patching RDR2 to run at 60 fps on current console hardware.

4. "Accessibility" is not the wonderful thing people believe it is. It's just the latest marketing buzzword and current trend and it results in games that are too easy and hand holdy.

3.Cross Play should not just be optional in console multiplayer games but it should NEVER be set as the default! Having CrossPlay as default issues most gamers will play it that way and now multiplayer gaming is no longer a fair experience, since m+k is always superior to controller.

2. Console gamers (of which i am one) have learned to accept being treated worse than PC gamers. When a game has performance issues it's always the "PC version" that gets reported on and thus gets the developers attention first. There are many more examples though where I see console people defending being treated poorly.

1. PS5 Pro is a massive disappointment! It's missing too many games I has hoped to get updates for. The updates it does have are 90% of the time too minor to justify the price and the blame is entirely on Sony, who a)didn't do a good job with PSSR (not saying it won't be good someday...but it's not right now despite hype) and b) Sony is disgracefully not patching ALL of their OWN EXCLUSIVES which is well ...a disgrace ...but back to #4 for a second ...people who bought a PS5 Pro should be outraged by Sony's handling of this console but instead when I complain I am met with nasty insults by Pro owners (watch, you'll see)
Nintendo fucking sucks.

They're lazy, they release subpar hardware and their output is primarily aimed at adult kids but this is by design because they have the monumental fortune that there's an entire generation of adult children walking around who relish in exactly the shit Nintendo pushes out.

I can't take anyone serious who stans for Nintendo.
As a fan of Nintendo games, you're spot on for the most part. Greedy ass company

Deus Ex Invisible war is a much better game than Human Revolution. Human Revolution is a dull, low brow, trend chasing game for mouth breathers.

FF X was trash and the start of the end of FF as we knew it
I always enjoy the complaints about XIII for being "too linear" when it opened up bigger than X ever did after about 15 hours.
Tidus is an annoying idiot for a large part of the game and I don't like playing as him.

Shit, on the topic of Final Fantasy: XV was goddamn great. I don't give a shit about what it could have been without developer hell as the end-product is simply fantastic.
I did shift opinions sometime back on that though, I remember disliking it somewhat, but compared to other FF entries it's one of the better ones.
And walking and driving around in that beautiful open world is just amazing.

Most of your points succinctly can be summarized to:
The gaming industry needs more actual competition to keep each other on their toes!
Its a shame the big fuck up that xbox has been for the last decade.

On every gaming forum, you have stupid ass console wars (I'm counting PC in this too) and for each side hoping that the other side goes out of business or is not competitive with their preferred platform. That's just a retarded take if one even understands basic economics, because they are rooting for a defacto monopoly.

Just take a look at the GPU market right now with the Nvidia situation. The same fucktards that rooted for Nvidia to dominate and cannibalize the GPU market in years past are now bitching about the prices and artificial scarcity that Nvidia is doing with their cards.

The dumbass console warriors don't realize that they are rooting for an Nvidia gpu situation in the console race.

People have been saying this since the mid 90s.

I laughed at them then, I laugh at them now :D
Consoles mod support still doesn’t come close to matching PC. This was true in the 90s too. Shockingly consoles have made virtually zero progress here. I honestly thought it would be better by now.

The problem is that most console gamers don’t realize how far behind they are. You can have a dramatically better experience playing the same game on a PC due to how archaic console is. Take Skyrim for example. The little mod support it offers after all this time is a joke compared to what you can do on PC.

Even MS seems to be the realizing this and exiting the console world.

We lost an OG hardware player because you all bought a Walkman companies DVD player. Which then attracted a PC software company. This is not the correct timeline.
If you ever find a way of getting to that timeline, promise me you'll take me with you.

  • Xbox has better hardware and a superior UI compared to the competition.
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is the best game in the series.
  • Monster Hunter is garbage.
  • Even back in the day, Ocarina of Time was nearly unplayable on any platform.
  • Square Enix has completely lost their magic.
  • No Pokémon sequel has ever truly recaptured the magic of Red and Blue. Gold and Silver were amazing but ultimately just a repackaging of what came before.
  • Halo was never good.
  • Astro Bot is not even close to being on Mario’s level.
  • The last truly good Mario game was Sunshine.
  • Death Stranding is some of the weirdest, most overrated nonsense, and deep down, you all know it.
  • Skyrim isn’t actually fun.
  • Sony has nothing interesting left in the pipeline.
  • I don't want less open worlds, just better ones.

That is not true. I think you are not understanding my post. It's not a feeling with numbers or whatever you are saying. It's how it's managed. Without effort and passion. Games like Dark Souls are always high quality with passion no matter the number is. Until it gets handed off to another developer is when the milking starts. It's when saving money plays a roll. Less effort and polish for the same full price game. Just slap the title on and hope the marketing help sells the game.

The King of Fighters games on the Neo Geo have more depth and better art direction than any games available today.

The biggest travesty in the history of gaming was when EA used their financial muscle to destroy Pro Evo.

Snowfall in Shenmue is the most beautiful thing in gaming.

Fire Pro is the most underrated game series in all of history.

Games are toys, not movies or art.

Microsoft has never built a successful development studio.

The only reason Xbox still exists is due to the limitless acquisition budget Microsoft has at its disposal.

Sony has ruined their generation and squandered untold time and resources chasing the shitty live service phenomenon.

Digital distribution of games has ruined the industry.

Gaming was better in the 90’s 00’s when developers designed their games for the people that actually played them.

Zelda has become mid and Totk is one of the most overrated games in the past 10 years.

Most western game developers are pretentious, take themselves too seriously and have forgotten how to make fun games.

Woke shit in games should be toggle-able on|off from the system menu, that way everyone can get what they want.

Fromsoft games have never been above a 4/5 for me and only Bloodborne was that. Their penalties for death are asinine and I only play them through to platinum (which I've done for Sekiro, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls OG, and Elden Ring) to be able to have discourse on them without their dumbass fanbase going "hurr durr git gud scrub best dev evar!"

I hate FromSoft and I hate their fanbase.

Their audience is so captured. It's always some revolutionary thing when they add any damn gimmick to their games and reviewers will give them free points just for nostalgia. Also they didn't save gaming like people seem to like to push. They were the first successful console after a 2 year crash in the console market in one region. They didn't save shit.

Being a child is thinking Sephiroth was the best 90s FF villain.
Being a teenager/young adult is knowing Kefka was the superior villain.
Being a middle aged man with experience and wisdom is realizing that actually no, you had it right when you were a kid. Sephiroth was the more interesting villain and Kefka was kind of a one-dimensional shallow mustache twirling bad guy.

Lemme see if I can get some more going:
  • Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima are bad games. They're basically just watered-down Ubisoft games that somehow have less compelling worlds than Assassin's Creed did in 2015.
  • There are no good roguelikes. It's a terrible genre.
  • The Sega Dreamcast was doomed to fail from day one. The controller was absolutely awful and not suited for modern 3d games. It was well behind the Dual Shock 1 in features. The memory card was too small compared to the PS2 which meant games that had big saves would basically take up an entire card. The VMU was gimmicky and only added cost to the already overpriced memory cards. Using GD-ROM instead of DVDs meant games were eventually going to have to be cut down vs. their PS2 counterparts.
  • The PS Vita was also doomed. The rear touchpad was pointless. Memory cards were overpriced. It couldn't play PSP UMDs, which immediately cut off a huge number of people who had that system. The game lineup was almost entirely made up of watered-down PS4 ports and indie games that could run on a phone. It was $100 too expensive.
  • Emulation is better than original hardware in almost all circumstances

The Last Of Us was nothing more than shiny production values that appealed to a generation of latchkey kids with Daddy issues. The gameplay is clunky, broken, and uninspired. The writing and story is after-school levels of cliche fan fiction. It is one of the most overrated pieces of entertainment fiction ever conceived. It did not deserve a single accolade outside of technical presentation.

Modern gaming is absolute garbage. It is assembly line corpo greed. There is no reason to pay release day price for anything, as most games are barely worth the price at even 50% off. The industry is a soulless cashgrab machine aimed at maximizing profits at the expense of the dumbest generation or two in human history. Predatory microtransactions and monetization headline the FOMO generation and their little online egos and streams, and piecemeal out content for increasing prices. It is a joke and an insult to a once great industry that made the most engaging entertainment medium. At least the recent slate of eastern action games is attempting to make actual video games again, and a few upcoming action titles look to continue that positive trend.

Good hot take.
I personally don't think that TLOU is GOAT either, but I fully respect its success and I'm happy that it exists. You're definitely mistaken regarding the reason behind its success though; Its the first high quality AAA game to be ever made by a western developer which shone a spotlight on a wholesome father/daughter relationship in a very fucked and cruel world. It didn't unfairly bash the dad character for just existing, like pretty much all mainstream western propaganda media has done since the advent of Television. Many fathers (AND daughters/families) resonated with it. It also helps that its a very cinematic game, easily digestible by the non-gamer/casual crowd.

Then Niel The Fucking Cuckmann came and did his best to ruin it all with the non-sequel. And many hedonists/degenerates lapped up his malicious machinations.
